We have been fishing in Lake Mälaren this weekend. Our friends have a summer house on the island of Ringsö, and we spent a few days with them. There have been walks, hanging out in the cottage and, above all, fishing.

Ringsö and fishing in Lake Mälaren
Ringsö is a scenic island that can only be reached by boat. There are mainly summer houses on the island, but there are also some people who live on the island all year round.
Ringsö is located in Lake Mälaren, in Strängnäs municipality.
What applies to fishing in Lake Mälaren?
Lake Mälaren offers good fishing opportunities and there are both "private waters" (private and belonging to the property owner) and "private free waters" (where fishing rights belong to individuals, but are largely free for everyone). You can read more about the rules in this leaflet from the County Council.
Since our friends Lennart and Beata have a summer house on Ringsö, they have fishing rights in the waters around this island, which means, among other things, that they can set nets there. There are, of course, different rules to follow, such as the length of the nets and the size of the meshes.
Preparing for fishing in Lake Mälaren
We started by preparing for our fishing in Lake Mälaren by reviewing the nets, which seemed reasonably in order since the last time we went fishing. fished with nets in Lake Mälaren.
Then it was just to walk down to Lennart and Beata's boat ...
Laying nets
Peter is the one with the most experience in setting nets. He spent every weekend with his father and brothers in the Stockholm archipelago throughout his childhood. At that time, the Baltic Sea was full of fish, and fish was an important part of their daily diet.
Peter and Lennart chose where to put their nets based on depth and wind, but since we do this so rarely we are far from experts. The more often you do this, the better you get at knowing which is the best place to catch fish.
Weathering the nets
We put out the nets in the morning and in the afternoon, when it was still light, it was time to clear them.
Now all four of us went out together.
Time to clear the nets! This is by far the most exciting part. Are there any fish?
Peter felt it twitch and yes, there it was. A really big and nice perch!
Of course, a single fish is not much for four people. But at least we got a small catch! Perch is delicious, and you can always add other ingredients and accessories to your dinner. In addition, we had another chance ...
Day 2 with fishing in Lake Mälaren
We put the nets out once more, giving us another chance to check the nets and see if we had any fishing luck.
Also this day we had nice weather, but it had become much colder!
Was there any fish? Just like the day before, we got a single fish in the nets. This time it was unfortunately a burbot, which we are not as fond of as a food fish. But maybe someone else has better experiences with burbot?
Forest walks on Ringsö
Even though we didn't catch much fish, we thought we had a great weekend at Ringsö, fishing in Lake Mälaren.
We also had the opportunity to walk around the island.
The nature is fantastic, with pine and birch trees, green mosses, lots of blueberries and large mushrooms of all kinds.
We were also lucky with sunshine!
And quiet days in the cottage ...
We also spent a lot of time in the cottage, which has a fantastic view of Lake Mälaren.
Even though it's autumn, it's great to get out in nature. Do you have a place you usually go to when you want to experience peace in nature? Have you ever tried fishing in Lake Mälaren?

The only one who looked really happy if slightly frozen here was clearly Peter. You Helena looked totally frozen there on the boat;-)
A perch and a burbot - well, it can only get better next time. I have actually eaten burbot once. Quite okay fish, as long as you don't think about what it feeds on;-)
PS. Like the tree hugs Peter and Lennart:-) DS.

Peter is happy to fish, I think! 😉 I am not quite as amused by fishing, but getting out on the lake is nice! 🙂
