A few days ago we told you about Christmas markets in Europe. Here are twelve Christmas markets in Sweden. Several of them we have visited, and in other cases we have visited the town, castle or open-air museum at some other time of the year.
1. Skansen, Stockholm
Skansen's traditional Christmas market dates back to 1903. Here you will find handicrafts, design and delicacies. In addition, mulled wine, waffles, wraps, burnt almonds, cotton candy, caramels and other goodies are served. You can also visit the open-air museum with its historical buildings and Nordic animals.

2. Liseberg, Gothenburg
During Christmas, Liseberg is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with a Christmas market and a festive atmosphere. You can also ride carousels, go to restaurants and try many other activities.

3. Fredriksdal, Helsingborg
Fredriksdal in Helsingborg hosts an atmospheric Christmas market with around 100 exhibitors. Here you can buy crafts and Scanian Christmas food and take part in activities such as Christmas preparations, dancing around the tree and Christmas workshops.

4. Kosta, Småland
Kosta Christmas Market is part of the Christmas celebrations in Kosta, in the Kingdom of Crystal. Here you can experience Christmas shopping in the cosy Christmas market, Christmas lights galore and a whole host of other Christmas activities, such as hut herring and a Christmas table. In addition, you can peek into glass cabins while the glassblowers are working, or even try blowing glass yourself.

5. Sigtuna
For four Sundays before Christmas, Sigtuna offers a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. At the market, you can buy traditional crafts or try different treats. There is also a programme with Christmas music and a visit from Santa Claus.

6. Jamtli, Östersund
In early December, a Christmas market is organised at Jamtli in Östersund. We have never been to this Christmas market, but it seems great to have a Christmas market where there is likely to be snow! In addition, Östersund is a lovely winter city, where you can hang out in the Winter Park.

7. culture, Lund
For one evening and two days, the Kulturen open-air museum in Lund hosts a Christmas market. The stalls sell Christmas food, decorations and crafts, and you can also see how to make marzipan figures, decorate gingerbread and make straw bows.

8. Taxinge Castle, Södermanland.
Taxinge Castle, also known as the 'Cake Castle', hosts a Christmas fair over two weekends in November. Here you can meet over 100 artisans and browse lots of handcrafted products.

9. Tjolöholm Castle, Halland
The Christmas market at Tjolöholm Castle is a popular tradition. Here you can buy unique Christmas gifts and every day you can see a crackling fire show. Food is served in several restaurants and you can also buy "Christmas tea", a Christmas-inspired afternoon tea with canapés, scones and pastries. If you wish, you can also choose to visit the stunning castle.

10. Gamla stan, Stockholm
The Christmas market at Stortorget in Stockholm's Old Town is traditional. Here you'll find stalls selling crafts of various kinds, but also mulled wine, burnt almonds, caramels and game meat. While you're here, why not take a look around the cosy Old Town?

11. Visby, Gotland
Every Advent weekend and on two Mondays in December, a Christmas market is organised at Stora torget in Visby. In the Christmas stalls you can buy everything from roasted almonds and Gotland handicrafts to delicacies and Christmas gifts. On some days, various activities are also organised, such as dancing around the tree.

12. Huseby Bruk, Småland
At Huseby Bruk in Småland, you can experience a large Christmas fair with skilled craftsmen and various farm businesses with their own delicacies. Every evening, 500 marching bands and 200 Christmas trees are lit to create a festive atmosphere. Santa Claus is also present.

The Tykarpsgrottan Christmas Market outside Hässleholm is a nice and pleasant experience!

Svenska slottsmässor is an association that organises Christmas fairs in several different places in Sweden. We have visited it at Koberg Castle a few years ago and are a bit keen to visit it at Kalmar Castle. It should be really cosy.
