We're not getting any younger, that's just the way it is. Going around dreaming about a trip you want to take, a life change or something else is really just unnecessary energy if you don't do something concrete with the dream. So we turned the dream into a plan and realised it. Now we have a new plan ...
The dream of a motorhome came true
I have been dreaming of a life in a motorhome for many, many years. With a new partner, you can hardly expect them to share your dream, but you can hope. One day I told my husband-to-be that I would like to try travelling around the motorhome world and visiting interesting places.
Ok, that sounds fun!
His response? "Ok, sounds fun!" And so it was. Not right away, it took a few years. But when the pandemic prevented us from doing much else, we bought our motorhome, a small Weinsberg Cara Compact Edition: Pepper, which we named Peppe.
We lost several friends to COVID-19 and thought it was now or never. You don't know what will happen and the chance may be lost if we don't act now. Buying Peppe is the best thing we did! We were given so much good advice before the first trip, we hardly listened to any of it, but just took off. We were hooked immediately and have hardly been home since. The freedom, the calm ... everything is better in a motorhome!
Motorhome life is easy
Motorhome life is so simple. We live on our 13-14 square metres and are incredibly happy with it. We don't have room for much and everything has to have its place, so we never look for anything anymore. We go wherever our nose points or the sun shines, sometimes to a car park, sometimes to a campsite and sometimes to a friend's house.
Friends yes ... they have become very many more. Motorhome people are somehow attracted to each other, as is everyone with the same interest? We decided to organise a small meeting, expecting maybe 10 interested people - 70 vehicles arrived and 20 were in the queue. It was an absolutely fantastic long table with 130 people who didn't know each other, how cool is that!
A new plan
Turning the dream into a plan and then realising the plan is the best thing we have done. We have a whole new life actually. Now we're working on the next part of the plan: clearing out, selling the house and living full-time in the motorhome. There are still a few small obstacles along the way, but in a few years the idea is to roll around Sweden during the summer months and then head down to Europe during the winter. The big plan is to never have winter again, because we don't like it!
Do you also have a dream?
Are you also dreaming about something? Turn your dream into a plan and do everything you can to realise it. Life is too short to just walk around dreaming, you have to live your dream before it's too late. We do and we are so happy, grateful and proud that we dared. Do it too!

I recognise the motorhome life you describe after 22 years with a motorhome. We have seen a lot, but much remains to be experienced.
We have met many friends over the years.

After three years of full-time living in a motorhome, we decided to settle in Portugal in a small house. Motorhome life gave us so much, new values, new needs, new friends... well, that's life. I hope you can fulfil your dream and enjoy motorhome life to the fullest.

Sounds great!
The dream is a plan now and will definitely be realised, if nothing unforeseen happens 🙂 .

Isn't motorhome life fantastic! When we met just over ten years ago, we had both done a lot of camping but never travelled in a motorhome. We almost immediately bought a small motorhome to see if this was our thing and it was! Now we are on motorhome number three and we say that we never feel as good as when we are on the road. In addition, we have met so many nice motorhome drivers and that social interaction is so uncomplicated somehow. Despite this, full-time living in a motorhome is not something that attracts us and so far not even wintering around the Mediterranean. We have taken the partial step of selling the house and settling in an apartment (and it gets expensive some months when we barely sleep there a night) but we will see what the future brings. Plans are always there to be changed and as well we don't know what happens....

We did the opposite. Sold everything in Sweden and bought a house in Provence where we lived permanently for eleven years. And a little later, after buying the house, it became a motorhome to use as a Swedish "summer cottage" for the annual visits to family and friends in different parts of Sweden. Perfect - we were always self-sufficient, never needing more than an electrical outlet. And also took the opportunity to discover a Sweden we didn't know. And then we did the same with France - travelling all over the country for several years. Not always easy to get around in narrow French alleys and we missed a lot because of that. We also liked meeting other motorhome owners but actually found it most interesting with people from other European countries - many Germans and Dutch, French of course but also English. Camping and caravan sites are practical but not always so charming and can be very messy as well but the freedom has always prevailed. To live permanently though - well, it's too small in the long run and to sit on a Spanish campsite among only other Swedes who "escape the winter" was never our melody even though many enjoy it. We are very happy and grateful for our motorhome years and can only agree that it is important to live your dream and do it while there is time!

Of course you have to realise your dreams. We have been travelling in a motorhome for more than 20 years and have seen a lot in the different parts of Sweden, but also around the Nordic countries, including Iceland. Before the trip we were discouraged by many, but it was a great trip. We have subsequently travelled in Poland and many other European countries, as well as with a rented motorhome on the South and North Island of New Zealand.
We stopped working at 60 and as pensioners we spent a number of years in Portugal and Spain. The number of motorhomes increased and we felt that many places where we had previously been able to stay disappeared. So we are not the kind of people who like to stay on a campsite for a long time. My body also wanted a warmer winter climate, so one winter we rented a flat in Gran Canaria to see what it would be like to take the motorhome Ellen there. We felt it wasn't for us, but we liked the climate better. We continue with the winters on GC, but this year we took Ellen on a two-month trip to Malaga and then flew from there. This spring we will pick up Ellen and continue the journey home. Life and different needs change and you have to adapt to it.
Stay safe and continue to realise your goals.

What an inspiring text, and wonderful that your partner shared your dream. Losing loved ones can really make you wake up and start thinking about what is important in life.
My aunt and her husband had won a large sum of money and planned to spend the winter months in the Canary Islands, but she got cancer and passed away.
It made me even more motivated to follow my dreams, because you never know what will happen. For me, life is about those things that I will look back on when I am old (if I am old) and that will make me smile and think "What a life I have lived".
