Why make dreads?
Why do you want to make dreads, or dreadlocks as they are also called? Well, there can probably be many answers to that question. For Peter, it was probably a desire to do something new and completely different.
To be honest, he has always loved to experiment with clothes, design, jewellery and hairstyles... He wanted to make a changeand believes that life is too short not to try different things.
Seienstyle - dreads in Stockholm
In Peter's case, thinking about dreads happened to coincide with the company Seienstyle moving into the small office space located on the jetty where we live in our houseboat in London. Pampas marina in Solna. Ann-Marie, who is behind Seinestyle, had been looking for new premises for a while and immediately felt it was right when she found the premises in Pampas.
And you can see why Ann-Marie likes the view in the Pampas! She has also designed the space to feel like a small relaxing oasis surrounded by the water. When you walk in, you're immediately embraced by the soft carpets, the green plants, and the quietly calm music.
Making dreads in Stockholm
If you want to do dreads in Stockholm, Seienstyle in Pampas is undoubtedly a suitable choice of location. Ann-Marie is one of the few people in the world who has been doing dreads for over 25 years. She has taken courses in several different countries, and today she is hired as a trainer.
Passionate about working without chemical additives, Ann-Marie has also developed a revolutionary method of hair extension called "Serene Flow wave".
In other words, it's not surprising that Ann-Marie was hired by Nyhetsmorgon on TV4 to talk about the art of making - and caring for - dreadlocks.
How to make dreads
To make dreadlocks you either need to have long hair of your own (Ann-Marie points just below the shoulders) or have at least 10 centimetres, so that you have something to attach hair extensions to. Peter opted for the latter, so he saved his hair for three months before it was time.
We won't go into the exact process of making dreads because it's not our speciality, but in short, Ann-Marie ties a synthetic fibre thread and then tucks and crochets the hair using a special technique.
How long it takes may depend on how long it takes. Peter was here for most of the day, from 11 am to 8.30 pm. Here you can see some photos from the process...
But ... can you wash dreads?
One of the most common questions when it comes to dreads, as we understand it, is whether you can wash them. And yes, the simple answer is that you can. It's no problem at all to wash dreadlocks, but you should use a special shampoo designed specifically for dreads. Regular shampoos often contain emollients, which is not good if you want your hair to keep its shape.
After about three months, you can expect to have an outgrowth, and then you may need to fix your dreads again, to keep everything looking good.
Well, here you can see the result! Peter is happy with the salon's work, but needs some time to figure out how to wear this hairstyle. He might shorten it or add jewellery to it. We think this is a fun change, but we don't expect everyone to like it. After all, dreads are a hairstyle that many people like to have an opinion about.
Now it's just a matter of getting used to this new hairstyle... In the future, you might see some new variations with updos or jewellery. Time will tell!

Haha, so damn delicious to just do what comes to mind! I can imagine that there will be a lot of looks and that people will hate it. It is probably not very common for a blonde man of 38+ ( 😉 😉 ) to have dreads, hehe.

Absolutely right thinking there! Of course you should dare to try different things if you feel like it. For me, it's nothing but that's not what it's about but daring to take the step. When or if you get tired, just return to the usual hairstyle again.

Fun to try! Life is too short for hesitation. I, who see most things practically, would have undoubtedly chosen your hairstyle for three months in the sun and heat, the shorter the better, but so lucky that we think differently.

I (Helena) am also like that, and like short hair. But Peter and I have always been a bit the opposite 😉.

It's all about flavour. The main thing is that Peter likes his new look. With that hairstyle, maybe you should go on a long holiday to the Caribbean instead of the Philippines;-)
