Swedish Royal Palace Road

Svenska kungliga slottsvägen is a FREEDOMtravel Theme Road that runs from Tullgarn Castle south of Södertälje around Lake Mälaren to Rosendal Castle on Djurgården in Stockholm. You can follow it from any direction you like, or pick your favourite part (your favourite spots) in the middle. This is an idea to make it easier for you to go on a little adventure. 1. Tullgarn Castle

When we returned from our motorhome weekend at Jogersö on Sunday, we needed a place to stop and eat our lunchtime lamb sausage. What could be better than a castle? I googled on my iPhone and that's how we found Tullgarn Castle outside Trosa. Here we walked around in the footsteps of kings and tsars, while learning why the shopping centre in Huddinge is called "Kungens kurva"...

2. Gripsholm Castle on the Swedish Royal Palace Road.

Gripsholm Castle is a magnificent and regal castle by Lake Mälaren. The rooms are still here from the time of the Vasa kings and there is also one of Europe's most well-preserved 18th century theatres. In addition, the surroundings are really nice.

3. Strömsholm Castle

Strömsholm Castle is a royal castle near Västerås. The beautiful castle was once built by Hedvig Eleonora, on the site of a former Vasa castle. Today, many people associate the castle with horses and equestrian sports.

4. Rosersberg Castle

Rosersberg Palace is a royal palace in Sigtuna, north of Stockholm. This castle is one of the eleven royal castles in Sweden and was home to Karl XIV Johan Bernadotte and his wife Desideria. Today the castle is a nice place to visit.

5. Ulriksdal Castle

Ulriksdal Palace is one of the eleven royal palaces in Sweden and offers a beautiful setting with a palace park, orangery and commercial garden. There are currently no tours of the interior of the castle, but the park and the commercial garden are open to visitors. We took a trip here with the electric bikes!

6. Haga Castle on Swedish Royal Palace Road

Hagaparken in Solna is fantastic, and here you can stroll among castles, gazebos and pavilions from the time of Gustav III. We took the opportunity to make an excursion here with the electric bikes when the sun was shining on Friday. Follow us through the park!

7. Gustav III Pavilion

Gustav III's pavilion in Haga Park in Stockholm is decorated in the Pompeian style. It is one of the highlights of Swedish art history and one of the most important works from the late 18th century. From here, Gustav III travelled to the fateful masquerade ball at the Opera House in March 1792.

8. Drottningholm Castle

Last weekend we visited Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm. It was a fantastic autumn weekend, and really lovely to walk around the castle park in the November sun. 9. China castle on the Swedish Royal Palace Road

One July evening in 1753, Queen Lovisa Ulrika was surprised with a fantastic birthday present. At the far end of Drottningholm Palace Park, King Adolf Fredrik had secretly commissioned a Chinese-style pleasure palace, which was very fashionable at the time.

10. Royal Palace

What is it like to visit the Royal Palace in Stockholm? If there is one attraction in Stockholm that you definitely want to see at some point in your life, it is the Royal Palace. As a tourist, you are welcome to visit the state rooms, and there are also a number of museums in the palace.

TIPS: House of Knights

The Riddarhuset in Stockholm is open to visitors for an hour every weekday, and a visit here is really interesting. Here you can see the Knight's Hall with over 2000 copper armour plates.

TIPS: Riddarholm Church

Riddarholm Church is Stockholm's only surviving medieval monastery church. This magnificent building, built at the end of the 13th century, has long served as the burial place of the Swedish kings. Almost all Swedish rulers, from Gustav II Adolf to Gustaf V, are buried here.

11. Rosendal Castle on the Swedish Royal Palace Road.

Rosendal Palace on Djurgården in Stockholm is a unique document of the Swedish Empire style, also known as the Karl Johan style. Rosendal was a summer palace where members of the royal family could come to escape the formalities of court life in the city. Take the opportunity to see the beautiful Djurgården!
