Svenska Upplandsvägen is a themed road that takes you from Stockholm through lovely Roslagen and the east coast to experience nature, culture, history and adventure. We turn around before Gävle and head inland with lots of sights back to Drottningholm Castle. Travel on your own and at your own pace - by car, motorhome, caravan or motorbike.

Swedish Upplandsvägen
Svenska Upplandsvägen is a FREEDOMtravel Theme Road that runs from Gustavsberg, through Stockholm northwards and turns before Gävle and through all the great sights that Uppland has to offer back to Drottningholm Castle. You can follow it from any direction you like, or pick your favourite part (your favourite spots) in the middle. This is an idea to make it easier for you to embark on a little adventure. 1. Gustavsberg and the porcelain factory
Gustavsberg is a lovely little town in Värmdö municipality in Stockholm, best known for the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. We took a map-based walk along the waterfront and discovered everything from factory history to castles and mansions.

3. Haga Park
Hagaparken in Solna is fantastic, and here you can stroll among castles, gazebos and pavilions from the time of Gustav III. We took the opportunity to make an excursion here with the electric bikes when the sun was shining on Friday. Follow us through the park!
TIP: The Butterfly Museum in Haga Park
Have you visited the Butterfly House in Haga? For us it was a long time ago, but now we have made a new visit. Today the place is called "Fjärilshuset Haga Ocean" and, as the name suggests, offers more than butterflies.
4. Vaxholm
Vaxholm is a relaxed archipelago town with lots to offer all year round. The guest harbour is within walking distance of the town centre, where there is a golf course, fishing, swimming, camping and the cool castle. Experience Vaxholm with hotels and hostels, shopping, restaurants, boat trips and the idyllic old alleys.
TIPS: Siggesta farm accommodation and caravan site
Siggesta gård in Värmdö outside Stockholm is a rural hotel with conference facilities, outdoor activities, animals, activities for children and a restaurant with locally produced ingredients.
TIPS: Boat trip Ängsjö National Park
Boat from Furusund or Stockholm. No car, camping in designated areas for a maximum of 3 days, no restaurant. Rent a kayak at Kajak & Uteliv in Furusund and paddle 10 km to Ängsö National Park.
5. Kapellskär
Kapellskär's campsite is beautifully located in the Riddersholm nature reserve, with the coast and the Åland Sea just outside. We drove here on the first "proper" motorhome trip of the year and had a wonderful day in the Swedish nature.
TIP: Take the ferry to Åland-Finland or Latvia

6. Norrtälje
What to do in Norrtälje as a tourist? Norrtälje is an idyllic archipelago town with beautiful old wooden houses, charming alleys, cosy cafés and a whole range of museums. Around it are plenty of nature reserves and archipelago islands.
TIPS: Pythagoras Industrial Museum
The Pythagoras Industrial Museum in Norrtälje tells, in a very vivid way, about a piece of Swedish industrial history. You step straight into a factory that looks exactly as it once did. We were here with the campervan this weekend, and it was really interesting. Welcome to the promised land of spark plug engines!
7. Viking village Storholmen
Vikingabyn Storholmen is an open-air museum beautifully situated by Lake Erken in Roslagen. For a few weeks in the summer, the village is populated by a Viking association, and at certain times families with children and others are welcomed to learn more about the Viking Age and our exciting history.
TIP: Discover the Norr Malma Nature Reserve
During the last night of the midsummer weekend, we went free camping at Lake Erken in Roslagen, at Svanberga bathing area. Here we had a fantastic view of the beautiful lake, and we were surprised by a beautiful nature reserve with impressive oak trees. Visit the beautiful Norr Malma nature reserve
8. Väddö - Swedish Upplandsvägen
Väddö havsbad and camping on Väddö is a campsite with a sandy beach, surrounded by beautiful nature. The campsite was quite simple, but we still experienced two nice days in wonderful surroundings, surprisingly beautiful places, culture and history.
9 Grisslehamn
Located on Väddö in Roslagen, Grisslehamn is a charming little town, which is lively thanks to the Eckerö Line that allows people to cruise to Åland. We suggest seven things to do in Grisslehamn. There is a campsite, marina, spa hotel and a cosy little fishing harbour with restaurants.
TIP: Albert Engström's Museum & Studio
The Albert Engström Museum is located in Grisslehamn in Roslagen and tells the story of the artist Albert Engström. He lived here for much of his life and had his studio by the sea.
TIP: Take the ferry to Åland
Take the ferry over for a day trip and enjoy Roslagen with the Eckerölinjen.
10. Gräsö
Gräsö is a scenic island located just outside Öregrund in Roslagen. The island is surrounded by beautiful cliffs and there are several nature reserves on the island. Here you will also find camping, hostels and a beautiful old church.
11. Öregrund
Öregrund is a real gem in Roslagen with charming alleys, beautiful old wooden houses and a harbour full of boats and restaurants. Here you can enjoy a pleasant holiday atmosphere and watch the sun sink over the sea.
12. Forsmark's mill
Forsmark's mill in Roslagen is one of the many beautiful Walloon mills in the area. Iron was once produced here, and in the 17th century the Walloons came from Belgium to improve production. Today the mill is a great place to visit with historic buildings, an English park, a restaurant and a café.
13 Lövstabruk on Svenska Upplandsvägen
Lövstabruk in Uppland is one of the so-called 'vallonbruks' in Sweden, a historic ironworks dating back to the 16th century. It was once the largest ironworks in Sweden, owned by the de Geer family for 13 generations. Today, the mill is a popular tourist destination with attractions, exhibitions and an inn.
14 Ängskär on Svenska Upplandsvägen
Ängskärs havscamping is beautifully situated on the Hållnäs peninsula in north-eastern Uppland. We camped here for a day and enjoyed the beautiful nature and lovely cliffs by the sea. If you're travelling by motorhome and prefer to stay on a pitch, there are several to choose from nearby.
TIP: Lingnåre Nature Reserve
Lingnåre cultural reserve is located on the Hållnäs peninsula in Tierp municipality. There are currently a total of 43 cultural reserves in Sweden, and this is one of them. We made a visit here when we visited Sikhjälma harbour with the motorhome.
TIPS: Sikhjälma fishing harbour
This motorhome weekend started with us going to a site in Sikhjälma harbour, on the Hållnäs headland in Tierp municipality. We had a special reason to come here, but this is also a beautiful place by the sea. Here you can, among other things, experience the Kapplasse nature reserve and fantastic sunsets.
Rullsands sea baths & camping
Rullsands camping is a nice campsite outside Gävle. The location of the campsite is very nice and there is also a lovely sandy beach nearby. There are also cottages and the site is also known for its naturist bath. Definitely worth one or more visits!
16. Dragon Gate
The story of Dragon gate started in 2004 and has never been opened after many bankruptcies. Dragon gate is located along the E4 and if you get the chance to visit this cool construction phenomenon, do it. Here you will find rooms, café, restaurant, terracotta army, large terracotta sculptures, the world's longest wooden relief and much more.
17. Österbybruk
Österbybruk is beautifully located in Roslagen and offers a beautiful manor house, historical mill environment and plenty of activities around arts and crafts. When we were here, not everything had opened yet, but despite that we had a nice afternoon.
18. Uppsala on Svenska Upplandsvägen
Uppsala is an urban centre in Uppland and the capital of Uppsala County, and the fourth largest urban area in Sweden. Since 1164, Uppsala has been the ecclesiastical centre of Sweden as the seat of the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden.
TIPS: Kvarngården
Kvarngården in Knivsta is a local heritage centre and caravan park run by Knivsta Hembygdsgille. Among other things, a very popular midsummer celebration is usually organised here. Motorhomes and caravans are also welcomed to the farm's beautiful and cosy site.
19. Skokloster Castle
Skokloster Castle is a magnificent baroque castle on Lake Mälaren. It is the largest private palace ever built in Sweden. Today it serves as a state museum with a parade hall, large collections of artefacts, a castle park and a castle café.
20. Sigtuna
Join us in Sigtuna, Sweden's oldest city! Yesterday we woke up to blue skies and decided to take a trip. Where would we go? It was a trip to Sweden's oldest city. It's been many years since we were last there and Sigtuna is a wonderfully cosy town to stroll around in. And of course it's fun to take photos in a town with so many charming old houses!
21. Rosersberg Castle
Rosersberg Palace is a royal palace in Sigtuna, north of Stockholm. This castle is one of the eleven royal castles in Sweden and was home to Karl XIV Johan Bernadotte and his wife Desideria. Today the castle is a nice place to visit.

Paul Taylor Lanthandel in Sundbyberg is a restaurant with climate-smart, modern and above all really good food. The restaurant is run by Paul Svensson and Tareq Taylor, who are known from TV, among other things. We visited the restaurant this weekend and left really, really satisfied.

Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm. It was a fantastic autumn weekend, and really lovely to walk around the castle park in the November sun.
