We are currently preparing, as some of you know, for a boat trip among the islands of the Philippines. This will be a real adventure! But how is it going?

Long planning for boat trip in the Philippines
It was last summer, when we met our friends Micke and Julia in Gothenburg.that the idea of boating in the Philippines came up. We actually started talking about a completely different thing - a writing project that we will tell you more about later - and in connection with that we thought it would be both practical and fun to be able to hang out with each other for a longer period of time. And why do it in Sweden when you could do it in a more exciting place?
Micke and Julia have a special relationship with Malapascua in the Philippines, as they were stuck here during the pandemic and got to know a Filipino family. The family has a big boat, and Micke and Julia decided to ask if it would be possible to go on a longer boat trip with it...
The boat Dotche
The family boat is called Dotche, which is a combination of the names Hildo and Mitche, i.e. the mother and father of the family. The boat was already big before, but after we asked about the boat lift last summer, they have both rebuilt and expanded it, and quite considerably. The "new" boat was ready by the time we got to Malapascua, and we got the chance to join them on the trip. the first tour, with the whole family and a roast pig..
The boat itself is thus largely ready, as a boat considered. However, there is still some work to be done so that we can spend a longer time on board. For example, we need a kitchen and toilet, sleeping places and facilities for charging computers, phones and other technical equipment.
Preparing to go on a boating holiday
Preparations are in full swing. Did we say the boat itself is completely ready? Yes, actually, but the engine started leaking oil, so this needed to be changed ...
Micke and Julia have also acquired a large solar panel with a battery, which we will use to charge all the technical equipment we have with us.
Then there is everything else that we might need while travelling. Tents and mattresses for sleeping, kitchen utensils, food... We find new things all the time and have a long list of things to buy and fix.
Getting things here on the island is also not always easy, as there are only small shops with a very limited selection. Some days we need to go to the larger island of Cebu to buy the things we need that are not available here in Malapascua.
Don't miss out on the adventure!
It will be a little longer before we get going. First we have to finish all the preparations, and we also need to wait for the weather to become more stable. Men, now it's really happening!
Once we leave, the plan is to go to different islands and places in this part of the Philippines. Don't miss out on the adventure! We will report continuously here on freedomtravel.se (feel free to subscribe at our newsletter) and on Instagram, where we are called @freedomtravelnews.

Fingers crossed that it goes reasonably well according to plan, but there will certainly be some delays. On the other hand, you may not have a direct dead line either.
Take care.

It is fortunate that there is no need for you in the heat. Trust the solar panel, provided the sun charges it... Trust slightly less the "completion" of the "rest" of the boat. Then there's the funny thing about camping on a boat... Really hope you get away....
16 February 2023 - 21:19
Helena says:
It is of course difficult to know exactly how a project like this will go .... But there is probably not so much left on the boat anyway. The kitchen and toilet will be very simple variants. How it works with the tents we will see, but we hope it will work! Then we can also choose to camp on land. If we stay out for a long time, we can also sometimes take in a hotel, as a change. We'll see how it goes!
