Svenska Museivägen is a themed road that takes you through lots of fun and interesting museums. Museivägen starts in the Saga Museum in Ljungby and with a wide turn south, west east and back along the eastern coast southwards to the Marine Museum in Karlskrona. Travel on your own and at your own pace - by car, motorhome, caravan or motorbike.

Svenska Museivägen
The Swedish Museum Road is a FREEDOMtravel Theme Road that starts at the Fairy Tale Museum in Ljungby and, after 34 stops and a tour of Sweden, ends at the Naval Museum in Karlskrona. You can follow it from any direction, or pick your favourite part (your favourite spots) in the middle. This is an idea to make it easier for you to go on a little adventure. Happy travelling!

1. the Saga Museum in Ljungby
The Fairy Tale Museum is a museum of oral storytelling, fairy tales and legends. The museum is run by Unesco-accredited advisors. Berättarnätet Kronoberg is a non-profit organisation that works to protect oral storytelling and contribute to the continuation of the oral storytelling tradition.
2. Ikea museum
The IKEA Museum tells the story of the huge furniture store that was founded in 1943 as a mail order company by the then 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad in Småland, Sweden. The story is fascinating, so naturally we wanted to check out the museum and take a selfie in an IKEA bed!
3. Car cemetery in Kyrkö bog
The Kyrkö mosse car cemetery outside Ryd in Tingsryd municipality is an unusual sight, to say the least. In the middle of the forests of Småland lie around 150 scrap cars from the mid-20th century. The cars lie like rusty skeletons in the terrain and the site is gradually being taken over by nature.
4. The House of Salmon
At Kungsforsen, in central Mörrum, is the centre for sport fishing in the river. Here you will find an angling office, a shop and an exhibition on the life of the salmon and the history of fishing. Try your hand at fishing or just visit the house of salmon for a day.
5. absolute home
We visited Absolut Home and The Åhus Villa in Åhus, Skåne. This is the home and origin of Absolut Vodka, and the noble drink is still produced here. Relatively new to the town is that you can visit Absolut Home and take part in the Absolut Home Experience.
6. Disgusting food museum
The Disgusting Food Museum in Malmö is for those who want to shudder and think "I'm lucky I'm not invited to grilled guinea pig in South America tonight". But it's also for those who want to reflect on their own eating habits... Perhaps we in Sweden eat things that are perceived as "disgusting" by others?
7. Birgit Nilsson Museum
Birgit Nilsson Museum tells the story of the farmer's daughter who became a world star. Sometimes reality surpasses poetry, and this is such an occasion. Do you like fascinating stories about special people? Then the Birgit Nilsson Museum is for you!
8th UNESCO inherited Grimeton Radio Station
Along Svenska Hallandsvägen you can take the opportunity to see a Unesco World Heritage Site, in the form of the Grimeton radio station. The background is the technology for sending telegrams that was developed around a hundred years ago. Today Grimeton Radio Station is a destination for the whole family, with exhibitions, guided tours and activities for children.
9. Volvo museum
The Volvo Museum is located on Hisingen in Gothenburg, Sweden. The museum displays Volvo cars, lorries, buses, tractors, boat engines and aircraft engines - from the earliest models to the present day. Prototypes of non-production cars are also on display here.
10. Universeum in Gothenburg
Universeum is a science centre located in central Gothenburg, next to the Museum of World Culture and Liseberg. Universeum is incredibly popular with all ages.
11. Vitlycke Museum
Right next to Vitlyckehällen is Vitlycke Museum. The museum is completely free to visit and tells more about the rock carvings in Tanum, and the people of the Bronze Age, in an easily accessible and interactive way. We highly recommend a visit here!
12. Saab car museum
Visit the Saab Museum??? It doesn't really matter if you are interested in cars or not, this is Swedish history! At the museum you can see everything from the oldest models to the newest ones. You can also see models that were developed but never produced for sale, racing cars and various odd objects such as boats and postal cars.
13. Abecita pop art & photography
Abecita Popkonst & Foto is an exciting art museum that you won't want to miss if you're passing through Borås. Actually, you don't have to pass by - it's definitely worth taking a detour to experience this personal and fascinating museum.
14. Matchstick Museum
The matchstick museum in Jönköping tells the story of a time of child labour and terrible working conditions, but also of Ivar Kreuger's fascinating matchstick empire that conquered the world before it collapsed. If you visit Jönköping - don't miss the captivating Match Museum!
15. Husqvarna museum
The Husqvarna Museum in Huskvarna tells the story of a company that started making rifles in the 17th century and is now a world leader in forestry and gardening products.

17. Motala Motor Museum
In the guest harbour is the Motala Motor Museum, with Sweden's largest collection of old cars. Everyone talks about going here once in a lifetime, and outside there are nice old cars all the time.
18. Miniature Kingdom (model train)
Miniature Kingdom is a miniature facility (model train) with landscapes, buildings, model railway, vehicles and people. The facility is located in the disused industrial building of Kungsörs Bleckkärlsfabrik in Kungsör.
19th Pythagoras Industrial Museum
The Pythagoras Industrial Museum in Norrtälje tells, in a very vivid way, about a piece of Swedish industrial history. You step straight into a factory that looks exactly as it once did. We were here with the campervan this weekend, and it was really interesting. Welcome to the promised land of spark plug engines!
20. Vasa Museum
Visiting the Vasa Museum in Stockholm is something you have to do at some point! The Vasa ship carries a lot of Swedish history and it is unique that such an old wooden ship has been salvaged and restored. We've both been here before but it's been a long time, so it was time to visit the Vasa Museum again.
21. The viking museum
If you want to take a historical journey back to the Viking Age, visit Vikingaliv, a relatively new Viking museum in Stockholm. Really fun and enjoyable!
22. Wreck - museum of wrecks
Vrak - Museum of Wrecks is a relatively new museum on Djurgården in Stockholm, which opened on 23 September 2021. This marine archaeological museum focuses on wrecks found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea and their history.
23. ABBA the museum
This week Peter visited the ABBA Museum in Stockholm. The museum opened in May 2013 and we have been thinking about visiting it ever since. Isn't it strange that we're so bad at getting away to things in our own city ...!? A nice and interesting museum!

The Hallwylska Museum is one of our favourites in Stockholm. We have been here several times and love experiencing the beautiful rooms with the smart amenities of the time. This time we happened to step in during the opening of an exhibition by Konstfack, which made the experience a little... different.

The Spårvägsmuseet is a tramway museum in Stockholm. It is located in Hjorthagen in Norra Djurgårdsstaden. It shows the development of public transport in the Stockholm area from the 1650s to the present day.
28. air force museum Linköping
The Air Force Museum in Linköping is a technical and cultural history museum that tells the 100-year history of Swedish military aviation. One of the most interesting aircraft in the museum is a DC-3 with a very special history. This downed reconnaissance plane was recovered after 50 years on the seabed and the exhibition tells the story of the political game and the long search by relatives for the truth about what really happened.

Here you can see classic studio buildings and original costumes from the films, sing to film music, create your own mobile films and experience other interactive environments. There are also 12 filming locations nearby, such as Katthult and Bullerbyn.
30. Kosta Art Gallery
Kosta Art Gallery is an art gallery in the Glasriket region of Småland, showing glass art by various famous designers. You don't have to have a specific interest in glass or art to appreciate this. We were completely fascinated!
31. James Bond 007 museum
The James Bond Museum in Småland is a fantastic place for anyone who loves the James Bond films, and perhaps for everyone else as well. The collection is hugely impressive and the museum is so large that visitors are provided with a map of the many rooms.
32. A world of dinosaurs
Here they have dug up and released more of the largest and most feared creatures ever to walk the earth. Here you get closer to a real encounter with a dinosaur.
33. Kalmar County Museum (Wreck)
Kalmar County Museum offers a very exciting exhibition on the regal ship Kronan, which sank in the Baltic Sea in 1676. There are also some other interesting exhibitions here - including one on the mysterious massacre at the ancient Sandby Borg castle on Öland.
34. Marine Museum Karlskrona
Marinmuseum in Karlskrona is a museum that tells the story of the Swedish Navy from 1522 to the present day. The museum is beautifully located on the island of Stumholmen and offers a modern and exciting museum experience.
TIPS: Ice cream!
One of the best ice cream experiences in Sweden can be found in the centre of Karlskrona on the glacier in the main square.
