Digyo Island in the Philippines - in the Cuatro Islas archipelago

The island of Digyo is one of four Philippine islands collectively known as "Cuatro Islas" (Four Islands). This is a beautiful little island with fine sandy beaches, tall palm trees, charming summer huts for rent and a small shop.

Digyo Island in the Philippines

The island of Digyo is a lovely island with a holiday feel. People from the larger island of Leyte probably come here to rest for a day or two.

The island of Digyo is located just west of the large island of Leyte, close to the other three islands of the 'Cuatro Islas'.

By boat from Apid Island to Digyo

We are on a boat trip and started in the morning from the nearby island of Apid, where we had spent the night. On the way we took the opportunity to fish a little (without getting a bite) and then we were soon at Digyo where we added the island's fine sand tongue.

Beautiful beaches

We immediately jumped ashore to explore the island, which did not take very long as the island is small. The island offers, among other things, beautiful sandy beaches where it is popular to sunbathe and swim, or have a picnic. Just outside there are reefs where you can snorkel or dive. It is also possible to see sea turtles here, as they lay their eggs in the area.

Facilities for visitors

There is no actual village on the island, although it seems that a small number of people live here.

However, there are some services for tourists and visitors in the form of toilets, a small shop and a long line of "summer huts", i.e. small bamboo buildings with tables and benches.

However, there is no restaurant, so we had dinner on the boat. On this particular occasion it was bought fish with rice, but since then the guys on board have also caught their own fish.

Accommodation in tents

It is possible to stay overnight on the island if you want to. We brought our own tents and had to pay 100 peso (about SEK 20) per tent per night. If we had wanted to rent a summer hut, we would have had to pay 700 perso (about 140 kronor) per day, but we thought we could manage without tables and chairs.

A challenge to find the internet

For us it has been a challenge to find internet in this archipelago. We have local SIM cards with the operator Globe, but it seems that the operator Smart has better coverage here. On Digyo we had tiny coverage under a single palm tree, where we could sometimes receive or send emails.

To some extent, it can be nice to rest from the internet sometimes, but when you have a digital job to do, it also causes problems. Well, there was some relaxed book reading!

More to see and do in the neighbourhood

In the neighbourhood of Digyo, you can check out the three other islands that make up the Cuatro Islas: the island of Apid, the island of Mahaba and the island of Himokilan. You can also get to the large island of Leyte, the beautiful Camotes Islands with caves or the popular island Bohol.
