Denmark is our biggest destination abroad

Denmark and Spain top the list of countries we travel to most often and have done so for many years. Last year, nine out of 10 trips abroad were made in Europe and four out of 10 trips to our neighbouring countries. In terms of long-distance travel, almost three times as many trips were made to the US as to Thailand. Air travel accounted for half of the trips and cars for every fourth trip. Charter trips have been around every fifth trip for a long time. This is according to the consulting and analysis company RESURS for Travel and Tourism in the Nordic Region.

Stockholm is our biggest travel destination in Sweden

Last year we made 110 million journeys in Sweden and half of these were to and in the metropolitan counties. Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Skåne. Halland has moved ahead of Dalarna, which can be explained by Gekås. In Sweden we travel by car (63%) and almost every fifth trip is by train. There is a lot of investment in cycling holidays in Sweden, but more people use snowmobiles than bicycles for overnight trips. This is according to the consulting and analysis company RESURS for Travel and Tourism in the Nordic Region.

Direct flights to Cyprus from Umeå with Ving

Ahead of the summer season, Ving is launching a welcome innovation in the form of direct charters to Cyprus from Umeå Airport. Starting on 28 April 2023, Ving, in collaboration with Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA), will offer departures every Friday during early and late summer. After the premiere, departures are offered until 23 June. After a break in July, Ving resumes the service on 4 August and flies until 29 September.

TUI launches new sustainability agenda

TUI is launching a new sustainability agenda with scientifically validated reduction targets for flights, hotels and cruises, to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and reduction targets by 2030. The aim is to significantly reduce TUI's environmental impact and to maximise the positive socio-economic effects in its destinations. The agenda has three pillars, 'People, Planet and Progress', and includes investments in state-of-the-art aircraft and more sustainable fuels, ambitious energy savings and the purchase of local raw materials.

World's first Shaun the Sheep accommodation launched at Skåne Zoo

The world's first accommodation concept with Shaun the Sheep will be inaugurated at Skåne Zoo in June. Shaun the Sheep Land is a 20,000 square metre area with a farmer's market where you can meet Shaun the Sheep's world. Shaun's Wagons are customised wagons for comfortable and adventurous overnight stays close to animals and nature. Breakfast, dinner, and all the park's attractions are included in the overnight packages, and in the evening, overnight guests can help feed the animals and watch an outdoor cinema, as Shaun the Sheep and his flock do.

Momondo has listed 6 cinematic destinations

The 95th edition of the 2023 Oscars will take place in mid-March. Among the nominees is 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' with four nominations, including for its visual effects. The hotel and travel search site momondo.se has therefore listed six real destinations with cinematic environments.

  • Maligne Lake, Canada - A 22 kilometre long lake with glaciers and azure, crystal clear water.
  • Lake MacDonnell, Australia - Rose-coloured lakes with water ranging from dark purple to flamingo pink.
  • Lake Oeschinen, Switzerland - A small and beautiful lake in Bern, located at 1578 metres above sea level, surrounded by mountain scenery.
  • Capri, Italy - An Italian paradise island with crystal clear waters, picturesque villages and the beautiful Blue Grotto.
  • São Jorge, Azores - A Portuguese island, part of the Azores archipelago, with waterfalls, lagoons and mountain scenery.
  • Playa del Carmen, México - A place where you can dive with bull sharks, just a few minutes by boat from the central beach.

Reflection of the week

If we were to list filmic destinations - especially if we were to take inspiration from Avatar - we would include Halong Bay in Vietnam on the list. Cinematically beautiful indeed!
