Tulang Diot in the Philippines
Tulang Diot is quickly reached by boat from the larger neighbouring island of Pacijan, and can also be reached from Cebu, for example.
Tulang Diot is located east of the island of Cebu, in the municipality of San Francisco, in the Camotes Islands archipelago of the Philippines.
Boat trip from Kalanggaman to Tulang Diot
We are on a boat trip in the Philippines and we started our journey towards Tulang Diot on the island of Kalanggaman. We were not in a hurry, but stopped first, just outside Kalanggaman, to look for turtles.
There were lots of them, and they swam past the boat at an unexpectedly high speed. Fascinating to see! However, it was very difficult to photograph, and by the time we went in to snorkel, they had left.
The journey then continued, in fine weather and at a fairly slow pace, as we were simultaneously trolling for fish, that is, letting the lures trail behind the boat. We did not take the time, but the journey took perhaps about four hours.
Arriving at Tulang Diot
Arriving at Tulang Diot! How wonderful is it to see the destination appear in front of you, after a long boat trip? We immediately perceived the island as beautiful, with greenery, sandy beach and boats.
After the crew put the boat at a buoy, we went ashore with the smaller boat Filippa.
Hildem, who is with us on board, took a happy selfie with us just after we got off.
Nice beach
Tulang Diot consists largely of a nice sandy beach, a small village and a part that is mostly green nature. The beach is really nice, with soft fine-grained sand and crystal clear water.
Right on the beach there is a small bar/shop, some small "summer huts" with tables and benches and toilets.
We swam as soon as we arrived and Micke and Julia immediately went for a little paddle with their Filippa. They didn't paddle very far though, as they soon realised that the currents were quite strong.
Beachside bar - and other small eateries
The small bar is super cosy on the beach and sells things like beer, soft drinks, snacks and sweets. There's also a menu of classic Filipino dishes, such as grilled chicken with rice.
If you go into the village, you discover that there are even more small local shops and some simple little eateries. Micke stopped at one of these places and ordered some kind of fried plantain.
Local life on Tulang Diot
We took a walk along the part of the beach where people live and have their boats.
Then we turned upwards and walked through the village. Here we were really fascinated by how cosy it was. The houses are relatively simple, but it is incredibly green and almost everyone has made themselves at home with lots of flower pots.
The small paths are bright green.
The village school is very charming, with bright colours and lots of flowers.
There is also a cute little church.
Overnight stay on the beach
We also asked here, like on Kalanggaman Island, if it was possible to camp on the beach and it was, for a fee. We had our dinner in one of the small huts (for which we also had to pay rent) and enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
We may have thought at first that we would be alone on the beach, but that wasn't the case at all. After a while, a whole bunch of weekenders arrived, camping on the beach, sleeping in hammocks or on sauna mats.
The next morning we woke up early and sat working at the computers as the sun rose. Amazingly beautiful! We liked this island so much that we decided to stay another night.
More to see and do in the neighbourhood
In the neighbourhood of Tulang Diot you will find the three major islands Pacijan, Poro and Ponson. It is also reasonably close to the larger city of Cebu City, the charming island Malapascua, the fertile island Leyte and Boholwhich is known, among other things, for the special Chocolate Hills and Filipino ghost animal.

How marvellous! Would have loved to have been here. and nice to be beyond the major tourist routes where many tourists come. We experienced it a bit like this when we were in the Maldives and island-hopping in the late 80s. However, not tents but huts with beds. So it will probably be even now if they become a trip,
Keep up the good work.

How can you choose a favourite island among all these paradises? Oh, I've only seen a few. Incredible how the people on Tulang Diot live. I mean the island is tiny, but it still has a school and a few restaurants. What does the rest of the population do? Do they commute to Cebu perhaps?
anyway - WOW so far:-)

Aren't the islands beautiful? I don't know exactly how people live, but I can guess everything from fishing and farming to shops, small-scale tourism and driving people back and forth to the neighbouring island. In addition, people may have jobs on the neighbouring island of Pacijan, which is only five minutes away by boat.
