El Nido on Palawan

A large part of this week has been spent in the town of El Nido, located at the northern end of the island of Palawan. Getting here from Puerto Princesa takes almost five hours by car. We luxuriated by taking a taxi, which we shared with two Australian girls.

El Nido surprised us by feeling like a fairytale world. The landscape here is completely different from anything else we've seen in the Philippines. The mountains rise high around the town, and on the islands in the archipelago, and have the most marvellous shapes.

In the city, traffic is intense, filled with tricycles, mopeds, cars, vans and pedestrians. Tourists come from all over the world: Asia, Australia, Europe and the USA. The houses and cafes find inspiration from both Europe and other parts of Asia.

The power lines are tight and it's impressive that they find their way through. However, power cuts are relatively common in the Philippines.

Excursions by boat

The main thing you want to do in El Nido is boat trips to see all the amazing islands and lagoons around it. We've done three trips by bangka (Filipino boat) and canoe, and we'll tell you more soon. Absolutely fantastic! However, we'll save the best photos for the article on the boat trips... that's coming!

... and jobs

If anyone thinks we're gliding around on boat trips or lounging on beaches all the time, you're wrong. We work many hours every day, and some days we devote ourselves entirely to work, from morning to night. Fortunately, we like our job very much!

This week, among other things, I worked for quite some time on a sponsored article about what you can what to do in Andorra in the summer. We got a lot of information and pictures from the Andorra tourist office and then I wrote an article, which they double-checked. A lot of hours and a lot of research, and in the process we have become curious about this small country in the Pyrenees. Have you been there?

Film number 6

Peter continues to make films about our journey, at breakneck speed. Now it's time for film number 6! This eight-minute film is about our journey to the island of Palawan and the start here, with accommodation at the Atremaru Jungle Retreat and about the first excursions - which we haven't even had time to tell you about here at FREEDOMtravel yet... Get ready for amazing views!

Best this week

The best part of this week is - without a doubt - all the amazing things we got to see and experience in El Nido on Palawan. This is a place we won't forget anytime soon!

What has been the best part of your week? A few spring outings perhaps?

The week ahead

In the coming week there will be more reports from Palawan and El Nido. We have continued our journey to the island Coron, which is part of Palawan, but located north of the main island.

There will also be guest articles, focusing on Sweden and Europe. Don't miss it!
