What is most important when Swedes choose a hotel
Tickets' latest Sifo survey shows that more than half of Swedes consider an affordable hotel to be one of the most important factors when choosing where to stay during their trip. The price is most important among younger people and in the 18-30 age group, 72 per cent consider the price to be the most important. A good breakfast buffet is an impressive second on the list. The five most important things when choosing a hotel:
- That it is affordable (56%)
- A good buffet breakfast is included (39%).
- that it is close to your planned activities (27%)
- That it has good service (24 per cent)
- That the beds are of good quality (23%)
Norwegian signs agreement for better wifi on board
Norwegian is renewing its contract with IT provider Anuvu, becoming the first airline outside North America to install Anuvu's groundbreaking Wi-Fi technology. This means that customers can be connected at a speed up to 20 times faster than before. It also increases the bandwidth, allowing ten times as many travellers to use the internet at the same time without compromising quality. The technology will be installed on the entire aircraft fleet and will be phased in over the coming years.
Sweden's popularity increases among foreign tourists
There is great interest in travelling to Sweden among foreign tourists. Statistics from the hotel and travel search site momondo.se show that flight searches to Sweden in 2023 have so far increased by about 40 per cent compared to 2022. In addition to the fact that Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö there is also great interest in the northern parts of the country, with many people searching for flights to Kiruna, Luleå and Umeå. Departure cities with the most searches to Sweden:
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Paris, France
- Helsinki, Finland
- Vienna, Austria
- London, England
TUI's new summer destinations
The summer season has officially started for the travel company TUI and for the summer of 2023, Swedish travellers can choose from both new and returning destinations. Another new feature for the summer season is TUI's new hotel platform, where customers can create their own trip and book hotels around the world. Here are some highlights of TUI's new features for summer 2023:
- Rimini - classic Italian seaside resort with beautiful sandy beaches
- Polignano a Mare - picturesque small town in Puglia on the 'heel' of Italy
- Karpathos - Greek island with dramatic scenery between Crete and Rhodes
- Halkidiki - peninsula in north-east Greece with a relaxed atmosphere
- Georgioupolis - Greek town with kilometres of sandy beaches
Packed children's programme on Finnlines Sweden - Finland
Children on board! Finnlines' children's entertainment programme has been a popular part of summer trips on the Helsinki-Travemünde route for several years. Now Finnlines is introducing the same concept on its Kapellskär-Långnäs ferry route.Naantali. Every day from 19 June to 6 August, the whole family can be entertained by magicians, clowns and musicians.
Spain's most hidden beaches listed
Do you like beaches where you don't have to crowd? AVIS Car Rental has released a list of the most secluded Spanish Blue Flag beaches. Spain is the world leader in Blue Flag beaches, which means a set of strict environmental, safety and accessibility criteria, with a record 621 sites. The AVIS team scoured 3 million Google searches to find the most secluded Blue Flag beaches. See the top 5 below, and the top 10 on a map:

The world's best restaurant is in Sweden
The world's best restaurants in 2023 have been selected by the restaurant guide "La Liste". The guide has gathered material from hundreds of guides, reviews and press and compiled a top list. At the top of the list is the Swedish restaurant Franzén, located in Stockholm, along with Guy Savoy (Paris) and Le Bernadin (New York).
Reflection of the week
Interesting that the breakfast buffet is so important when choosing a hotel! Here in the Philippines we have only seen a breakfast buffet once (at a larger hotel on the island of Mactan). If there is breakfast, it is usually Filipino breakfast (rice, eggs and some kind of ham/meat/chicken) or American breakfast (eggs, bacon and white bread with jam).

Of course it's fun! Yes, you get curious, I agree, but it costs a penny to satisfy your curiosity. Frantzén has three stars in the Michelin Guide ... 😉.
