Who doesn't want a cosy patio in spring? This week we've been enjoying the sunshine and warm spring winds and we've been at home in the houseboat, so of course it's tempting to hang out on the deck.
Our patio on the houseboat
We have a patio in the bow of our houseboat and it is absolute best with this one is that it's fresh out here and that all the time, if the weather is good, you have entertainment in the form of boats constantly passing by. On the other hand, it can be a bit windy, so the weather has to be good for us to sit here.
One challenge, related to that fresh and windy weather, is that you have to furnish with outdoor furniture that stays put, no matter how strong the wind is. So we got a really heavy stone table and quite substantial chairs, which we often tie around the table.
On nice days it's great to sit out here, but because it can be windy (and because we're often travelling in the summer) it's not as often as we might like.
On nice days like this, we are reminded that we should use the space more often, and that we would really like to create a more cosy patio... We have looked at everything from cosy except for for cushions and blankets. Plants are also nice to have outside, but that will be in another life because we travel too much ...
More things we need - or want - to fix at home in the houseboat
Now that we're home, we think of a lot of other things that we need, or want, to fix. When it comes to need there are some things we have to deal with sooner or later. One thing we need to fix very soon is new wheels for the gangway. We change these quite often because they start to creak after a while ...
Next year we must also raise the entire houseboat to check the hull, which is a major project.
There are also some things we need to fix inside the houseboat. For example, the oven is not working properly. We've also had a look at Peter's workplace, where we think we could get some good holders and compartments for all the paperwork, so he can keep his stuff a bit more organised.
I (Helena) work at the kitchen table and last year we fixed compartments on the wall behind me where I can keep documents, pads, pens and stuff. This is me so happy with!
Now that we are at home in the houseboat, we are starting to think about all the things we want to fix, but we will have to calm down a lot because we will soon go out and roll with the motorhome ... But until then, we are enjoying the beautiful environment here!
Do you have a patio? What does it look like? Do you have any DIY projects coming up this year?

Looks lovely!
I had my patio remodelled last year and am super happy with it. It means so much to be able to be outdoors. For me both in shade and sun.
Take care!

BP says:
Having a houseboat is about the same as having a house/villa - an eternal project. It never really gets finished. And when one project is completed, the next one demands attention.
I remember that "boat inspection" thing you had five(?) years ago. As well as the car inspection. It's really a big project. Envy is not there...

Lena - good for the soul says:
I understand that it's really cosy to sit there when it's nice!
Yep, we have, and are working on a number of patios (of which you have sat on one 🙂 ). The latest is that we are putting together a breakfast balcony.
