One thing you don't want to miss in the High Coast is visiting Skuleberget. We tell you about our hike up the mountain and about Skuleberget Havscamping, where we parked our campervan during our visit.

Skuleberget in the High Coast
Skuleberget is one of the most popular destinations in the High Coast. You can hike to the top, where there is a summit hut with waffles, and in summer a cable car runs all the way up.
Skuleberget is located about 3.5 kilometres south of Örnsköldsvik, in Ångermanland.
Nature centre at Skuleberget
There are car parks and toilets at the foot of Skuleberget. There is also the Naturum Höga kusten, where you can find information and exhibitions about the Höga kusten World Heritage Site, Skuleskogen National Park and Skuleberget. Among other things, you can learn more about land uplift and why the dramatic landscape looks the way it does.
It was interesting to look in here!
Visiting Skuleberget - hiking or taking the lift
If you want to visit Skuleberget - or rather, the top of it - you can choose between taking the lift, hiking or making an adventure with the via ferratai.e. rope-secured climbing routes. For us, the choice was easy. We were here in pre-season, so the lift had not opened yet, which is why a lift was not an option. Since I (Helena) am afraid of heights, via ferrata was not an option either. So we hiked up to the top!
What suits you is of course up to you. If we had the opportunity to choose, we would probably have chosen the lift anyway, at least upwards. But, now we will tell you about our hike!
Hiking up Skuleberget
When hiking up Skuleberget there are a few different trails to choose from. You can take the Höga Kusten-stigen / Södra Bergsstigen, Linbanestigen, Grottstigen (steep) or Östra Bergsstigen.
We chose Höga Kusten-stigen / Södra Bergsstigen, as this path is recommended by many. The path is nice, but at times steep and full of rocks and roots.
Here and there along the hike we had fantastic views. Since the hike up (for us) was relatively demanding, we stopped from time to time, to take a breather on a rock, drink water and contemplate the views.
Visiting Skuleberget - at the top!
So, finally, we saw the summit hut there in front of us. This, seeing that we were almost there, was a really cool feeling!
At the top we had a chance to breathe and enjoy the achievement. Toppstugan had not opened for the season yet, but during high season you can enjoy waffles here. We had water and chocolate biscuits with us, and that was fine too!
The view of the hiking trail is nice, but the best part is the view of the coast.
Hiking down Skuleberget
After hiking up to the top of Skuleberget, it was time to hike down again. Some people suggest taking the same route, as the views are completely different when going in a new direction. We didn't really feel like it and chose a new trail: Eastern mountain path.
This trail was initially very easy, with nice wooden footbridges and lovely viewpoints. But it would become more difficult!
The trail led us into the forest again. Here the snow sometimes remained in May, and it was sometimes a bit muddy.
Further down, the path also became quite challenging, with lots of rocks and roots, and sometimes quite a steep slope. But of course we got down! After the hike we were tired and satisfied, after a wonderful day.
Skuleberget Havscamping
We parked the motorhome at Skuleberget Havscamping, which is an excellent starting point for hiking up or otherwise visiting Skuleberget. Another option is Friluftsbyn, which also has a good location.
At Skuleberget Havscamping you stand on gravel, with a nice view of the water, and you have access to all the services you need. We walked from the campsite to Naturum (about 15 minutes), but you can of course also take your bike or car.
Skuleberget Havscamping also has cabins for those not travelling with a motorhome or caravan. There is also a restaurant, café and sauna (the red buildings by the sea) and (soon) the possibility to rent a canoe.
The restaurant, Veåsand skärgårdsbistro, serves primarily Neapolitan pizzas, but also beef steaks and fried herring. There are great views both from inside the restaurant and from the outdoor terrace.
More hikes starting from Skuleberget Havscamping.
One of the best things about Skuleberget Havscamping is that this place is a good starting point for several hikes. With the starting point directly From the campsite you can hike to the pulpit on Getsvedjeberget. About 8 kilometres from the campsite is Entré Syd at Skuleskogen National Park, from where you can hike to Slåttdalsskrevan.
Film from Skuleberget
You can also watch a film from Skuleberget, Predikstolen, Slåttdalsskrevan and Skuleberget Havscamping.

Good thing you were on a mission before school ends. We rested on the way home the year before last, packed at Skuluberget!.
But great for the tourism industry that has really developed in the area ⭐👍.
In the past, Docksta was best known for its shoe manufacturing...

Helena says:
Yes, that's the advantage of travelling during pre-season. The disadvantage is that you don't get waffles 😉.

Lena - good for the soul says:
So fantastically beautiful up there. The campsite looked very nice! I have hiked up Skuleberget a few years ago, but I think it was from Friluftsbyn. On that particular occasion, there was some "sports operator" who had a running event up at the top cabin. They were playing loud music to get some kind of atmosphere. But no, I don't understand how you can think of playing music in such a place and not let the sounds of nature appear. But yes, they certainly had a good time.

Helena says:
Crazy with loud music up there, I would not appreciate it either. Agree that you want nature more undisturbed than that!

They say you always come down;-) Oh, no, you don't rest if it gets exhausting. You take mandatory photo stops, because you have a blog to run. I always think of Ama in these contexts, who was not very fond of hiking up hills to castles, among other things ...
Absolutely wonderful pictures:-)

Helena says:
Haha, yes that can be true! But the advantage of mandatory photo stops is that you also get the chance to rest a bit 😉 And yes, I also think of Ama from time to time when we are going up to look at things, "dare to refuse the bail" 😉.

We have made it to the top along the side of the mountain, Via Ferrata. Which was fun but understand that it is not to think about if you are afraid of heights. You get the view anyway and it is so beautiful.
