The pulpit on Getsvedjeberget - could it be the High Coast's best photo spot? We had seen pictures of the spectacular protruding rock and wondered where to find it. Then we discovered that the hike started from the campsite where we were standing - Skulebergets Havscamping!

The pulpit on Mount Getsvedje
The pulpit on Getsvedjeberget in the High Coast should not be confused with the impressive Norwegian Preikestolen, which is much better known. However, the shape of the rock is somewhat reminiscent of the Norwegian version, which probably explains its name. The place offers a nice, relatively short hike and a great view.
Getsvedjeberget is located less than four kilometres south of Örnsköldsvik, in Ångermanland.
Walking up to the Pulpit
The hike to the pulpit on Getsvedjeberget starts at Skuleberget's Havscamping. You can either stay at the campsite overnight, or just park there for a fee. From the campsite, a sign points upwards towards the forest and the mountain, with the texts #getsvedjeberget and #predikstolen.
We had read that the hike up would take about half an hour, but since we often find such time estimates a bit optimistic (or because we walk slowly), we usually pack water and biscuits just in case. The water came in handy on the uphills, we can say. We didn't need the biscuits this time, as we just had lunch.
The hike upwards is on paths, climbing among roots and rocks. Here and there the landscape offers dramatic formations.
There are also beautiful views even before you get to the top. If you get breathless and tired, just stop and rest for a while. For us, the hike upwards, at a leisurely pace and with several breaks, took about 40 minutes.
At the top of Mount Getsvedje
Eventually you reach the top! Here you are greeted by wonderful views, looking down on the water, the campsite and the surrounding landscape.
A sign points to the # pulpit and we thought we would find it right away. We didn't. We had to look for a while. The viewpoint is in the direction of the sign - just walk towards the edge (with some caution of course) and look carefully.
The pulpit on Mount Getsvedje
Yes, there it was, the pulpit on Getsvedjeberget! And surely this can be the best photo spot on the High Coast?
The pulpit on Getsvedjeberget may not compare to its namesake, Preikestolen in Norway, but this is still a really cool and dramatic vantage point! From the top of the mountain you can see the Ulv Islands, Sweden's highest island Mjältön, Skuleberget and Högbondens lighthouse.
We thought the hike was well worth it, and were very pleased when we gently began to descend again, a hike that probably took us no more than twenty minutes.
Where can you stay or park your motorhome?
The hike to the pulpit on Getsvedjeberget starts from Skuleberget's Havscamping. Here you can park your motorhome or caravan, and it is also possible to stay overnight in a cabin.
If you're staying elsewhere, such as at Friluftsbyn at Skuleberget, you can drive to Skuleberget's Havscamping and park there while you hike, for a fee. The price includes toilets and the opportunity to fill water and empty rubbish.

How nice that you got a clock up here. And of course it is enjoyable when one comes up and a nice hike, Yes, I have been up here a couple of times and both privately and in a work context. (In the work context, it was a voluntary hike but many people joined- ).
We always stay in Ö-vik at the First hotel and use it as a base for various tours. A good tip if you don't want to camp.

Slåttdalsskrevan was a little (read: a lot) sharper, but this mountain and the view from the top were not bad either.
Never visited Ö-vik with the spectacular Tingshusen and some other cool buildings? The question is asked by an asphalt farmer as you know;-)
