Swedish Open Air Museum Trail
Svenska Friluftsmuseivägen is a FREEDOMtravel Theme Road that runs from Arvika down through Sweden, turning up to Malmberget and Gällivare in the north. You can follow it from any direction, or pick your favourite part (your favourite spots) in the middle. This is an idea to make it easier for you to go on a little adventure. Happy travelling!

6. Äskhult's village on the Swedish Open Air Museum Trail
Äskhults village is a fascinating historical village located in Kungsbacka. It is a living open-air museum that preserves and recreates a 19th century village with authentic buildings and environments. 7. Hallandsgården
Hallandsgården is a historical farm located in Halmstad, in the region of Halland. It is an open-air museum that showcases and preserves the cultural heritage of Halland. Visitors can explore the farm's buildings, gardens and exhibits to gain insight into the region's history and traditions.
8. Ängelholm Local History Society
The park also houses no less than five small museums. The museums are open during the summer and can be visited for a small communal fee. Check out the Technical Museum, the School and Banking Museum, the Leather and Toy Museum, Luntertunstugan and Grönvallska Farm.
9. Culture in Lund
Kulturen i Lund is an open-air museum spanning two blocks in the centre of Lund. Here you can peek into everything from crofts to castle houses, and there are also plenty of both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Don't miss this when you're in Lund!

11. Wämö Park on the Swedish Open Air Museum Trail
Wämöparken in Karlskrona is another outdoor park with preserved old buildings. We are fascinated by how many similar parks there are in Sweden. It is truly amazing that we have chosen to preserve our cultural heritage in this way!
12. the Eketorp fortress
Eketorp's castle is the only one of Öland's ancient castles that has been recreated so that you can get a visual picture of what life was once like here. There were buildings inside the castle between the 3rd and 13th centuries, and today the rebuilt castle is a major attraction.
13. Öland Museum Himmelsberga
Öland Museum Himmelsberga is a nice open-air museum that shows an old-fashioned Öland row village and what life was like in the past. There is also a cosy little café, a shop and an art gallery.

15. Fredriksdal on the Swedish open-air museum trail
Fredriksdal Museum and Gardens in Helsingborg is a lovely open-air museum in Skåne. Here you can experience old-fashioned buildings, meet farm animals and walk in beautiful gardens. Nils Poppe and Eva Rydberg have small museums here.
16. Grännabergets Open Air Museum
"Just above Gränna, on the edge of the mountain with a wonderful view, is the Grännabergets Open Air Museum. The open-air museum is the first museum activity to be established in Gränna, back in 1912. Initially, it served as a city park for the people of Gränna, but from 1916 onwards, more and more buildings were added to the area. The idea was to build a creation similar to that of Arthur Hazelius at Skansen in Stockholm.

Wadköping is a vibrant and fantastic open-air museum in Örebro, where you can walk around in beautiful historical environments. Here you will find picturesque houses and alleys, craft shops, a restaurant, bakery, café and museum.

Julita Farm is a charming mansion and open-air museum owned by the Nordic Museum. Stroll around the gardens and heritage buildings and enjoy the day because it's really nice here.
20. the Rademacher medals
Rademachersmedjorna is an open-air museum in the centre of Eskilstuna with preserved forges from the 17th century. The oldest forges in the area were part of the fine jewellery manufactory established in Eskilstuna in the 1650s. The area is named after Reinhold Rademacher, who was the first manager of the manufactory.
21. Sörmlandsgården
Sörmlandsgården is an open-air museum in Eskilstuna. The houses show what a typical central Swedish farm from the mid-19th century might look like.
22. Vallby Open Air Museum
At Vallby friluftsmuseum in Västerås you can see old houses and farms from Västmanland, but also learn about life in the past, farm animals and 'endangered words'. In summer you can expect a 'living museum', when the houses are open and people in period clothing bring the environments to life.
23. Frösåker jetty - Viking boats
If you want to get a bit of a Viking ship vibe, you can visit Västerås Historical Ship Museum, at Frösåker pier. There are around 25 Viking ships, medieval ships and traditional boats, both originals and copies. The boats are located outdoors and can be viewed at any time of the year. During the high season, the on-site café is open and serves homemade ice cream.
24. Torekällberget open-air museum
Torekällberget is an open-air museum in Södertälje. The museum shows how people lived in eastern Södermanland in the 19th century.
25. Lida outdoor centre
Lida Friluftsgård, located in Botkyrka municipality in Stockholm, offers a fantastic outdoor area with lots of different activities for children and adults. You can come here to hike in the Lida nature reserve or to try the Acropark high-altitude course, for example.

Visiting Skansen in Stockholm can be very enjoyable. Skansen can be visited all year round and offers beautiful historical environments, Nordic animals and many different activities and events. This December there was of course a Christmas market!

Vikingagården Gunnes gård is an open-air museum in Upplands Väsby. The environment from the younger Iron Age is recreated here.
28. Viking village Storholmen
Vikingabyn Storholmen is an open-air museum beautifully situated by Lake Erken in Roslagen. For a few weeks in the summer, the village is populated by a Viking association, and at certain times families with children and others are welcomed to learn more about the Viking Age and our exciting history.

Koversta gammelby is a museum village in Österfärnebo in Sandviken municipality. The village consists of five farmhouses from the 18th century.
31. Tunabygdens Gammelgård
Gammelgården in Borlänge is one of Sweden's largest heritage centres. Here you will find no less than 35 buildings and thousands of artefacts that describe the history of Borlänge.
32. Fagersta västanfors hometown association
Around Västanfors Manor there are various attractions such as the local community centre and the foreshore area with locks, dams and power stations.
33. Skattlösberg and finngammelgården
Finngammelgården showcases a collection of buildings that demonstrate the building traditions and way of life of the Finns.
34. Quarries on the Swedish Open Air Museum Trail
The area's slate mill was built in the early 19th century and was restored in 1990-1994 to full working order. Storkvarnen has also been restored and now operates a wadding mill. Here you can really see and understand what the mill wheels could do. check out a charcoal-engine-powered roofing bead grinder, a charcoal site with a charcoal hut, and a tar pit in the area.

Härjedalen Mountain Museum is located in Funäsdalen. Next to the museum is Fornminnesparken, which is open all year round.
36. Glösa moose kingdom
Glösa Älgriket is a thousand metre long open air museum where you can experience between Krokum and Åre.
- Rock carvings - that are 6000-5000 years old.
- The moose clan showed - which gives an insight into the everyday life of the trapping people 6000-5000 years ago.
- Trapping pits for moose - in an exhibition and at real fishing pits.
37. Jämtli Open Air Museum
Jamtli Museum is an open-air museum with historic houses, farms, cultural environments and crafts in Östersund.
38. Sundsvall open-air museum norra berget
Norra Berget is an open-air museum with historical buildings and cultural environments from Medelpad in Sundsvall.
39. Västernorrland Museum and Murberget Open Air Museum
Murberget Open Air Museum is located at Västernorrland Museum. At the museum you can see buildings and environments that tell the story of cultural history in Härnösand.
40. Mannaminne on the Swedish open-air museum trail
Mannaminne is a museum and art centre in Kramfors, similar to an open-air museum, with houses, planes and much more.
41. Museum of Västerbotten
The Västerbotten Museum is located in the Gammlia area in Umeå. The museum presents the cultural history of Västerbotten County and has an open-air museum with three Sami sites.
42. Vulture sites
Friluftsmuseet Gammplatsen is located on a peninsula in the Umeälven river in Lycksele. There are historic buildings here, and next door is the Forest Museum and the Gammplatsen nature reserve.
43. North Sea
Nordanå is a cultural and recreational area in Skellefteå. It is home to the Nordanå Cultural Centre with Skellefteå Museum, Skellefteå Konsthall and Nordanåteatern.
44. Gällivare local history area
Gällivare hembygdsområde is owned by the Gellivare parish local history association and is located on the Vassara River. Here you can see local buildings from the mid-19th century onwards.
45. Kåkstan on the Swedish open-air museum route
Kåkstan is an area in Malmberget with reconstructed buildings from the late 19th century. The town was rebuilt in 1988 for the 100th anniversary of Malmberget, to show how the first village looked for the first time in Malmberget.
