Happy Friday, Peter and Helena, with warm greetings from Finland! We have had a great week in Helsinki, Turku and Naantali, and have learned a lot about our neighbouring country. Interesting!
Table of contents
Helsinki, Turku and Naantali
We started by spending a couple of days in Finland's beautiful capital, and that resulted in an article with tips on things to do in Finland. what to see and do in Helsinki. We have covered everything in that report, but we can still mention the Fazer Visitor Centre. one more time. The visit there was a positive surprise, so we show some more pictures. Nice exhibition space, great guidance, interesting stories and good chocolate!
After Helsinki we continued to Turku. Wow, what a nice, cosy and historically interesting city! We learnt that this was once the second largest city in Sweden... Yes, there is a lot of Swedish history here! We'll tell you more soon, of course. For now, we can tell you that the top picture is from the beautiful Pharmacy Museum in Turku.
Now we have reached Naantaliwhere the Moomins live. Well, yeah, The Moomin world is here anyway. And wow, what an amazingly beautiful little town Naantali is. We'll explore some more, and then look forward to sharing more photos!
New in the motorhome - a wardrobe!
What else have we come up with? Well, a while ago we showed a picture of Peter working with an interior design project on a cliff. But what did he actually do? Well, we ripped out our shower room, which we weren't using anyway, and built a wardrobe there instead. It wasn't easy, but now we're super happy. So nice to have proper space for all your clothes!
Some mixed articles ahead ...
We've been travelling a lot lately, and have accumulated a lot of material. Since we sometimes want to tell our stories in real time, there are some things that have to be delayed. So right now we're talking about Finland, but be prepared for more reports from the High Coast, Åland and the Baltic Sea. Tunisia. Together with the guest writer's contribution, it is a mixed bag.
Best this week
The best thing about this week? Yes, it is that we have experienced several fantastic places in our neighbouring country Finland, while learning more about the history of Finland (and Sweden!).
Your turn ... what has been the best part of your week?
The week ahead
We will continue to discover Naantali and the surrounding area. Then we'll continue our journey of discovery in Finland ... we haven't planned exactly where we'll go next. On FREEDOMtravel you can expect mixed content: Finland, Åland, Tunisia, the High Coast and maybe some guest articles. Want to follow our journey in Finland even more in real time? Don't miss following us on Instagram at @freedomtravelnews!
Did you miss the last Happy Friday? Read the Tunisia with midsummer party - and a film from Åland

Now I'm curious. Have you never showered in your motorhome? Do you have an outdoor shower instead or is it only campsites/caravan parks that have showers?

We have only used the shower in the motorhome once, in the beginning. I think it takes a lot of water to shower in the motorhome and we don't feel the need to shower every day. We shower at campsites and pitches. In between, you can wash yourself in the motorhome's bathroom. Works for us 🙂

Your new wardrobe looks great! We use our shower very sporadically, rinsing ourselves off occasionally but showering properly with a hair wash on pitches or camping. Finland certainly has a lot to offer motorhome tourists. We have really only travelled along the Torne River in the far north.
The best part of the week has been a couple of days' visit from a daughter and her partner, and that we are finally out on a roll east of Lake Vättern, an area that is poorly visited.

Would probably recommend going to Tampere and then on to the areas of Mikkeli, Heinola, Savonlinna .... Lake Finland! I would skip the coast up towards Vaasa. Much driving in relation to what there is to see. But honestly, if I were you, I would go home instead, there is much more to do in and around Stockholm than among the sparsely located destinations here in Finland, a little unnecessary to waste your summer here. H. Apparently a non-patriot (or at least a realist).

It's perfect to have a wardrobe instead of a shower that you don't use anyway. And if you pay "expensive money" at campsites, you might as well shower in their shower room. In addition, you don't have to clean up after yourself as well;-)

I look forward to seeing more of Turku. As we have always prioritised family when in Finland, I have never visited cities like Turku and Helsinki. So very nice to see them through your posts.
The best part of my week was booking two trips for the autumn and winter, Mexico and Chile.

What a great trip.
Looking forward to more from Turku, which I have only visited once and that in a hurry.
Have a nice week!
