Halloween at Gröna Lund in 2023
On Friday 13 October, at 16:00, the doors will open for Halloween at Gröna Lund in 2023. After that, there will be 16 days of Halloween theme in the amusement park. In other words, Gröna Lund will be filled with pumpkins, ghosts, horror parades and haunted houses. We got to peek inside two days before the premiere, when the park was shown to the press, and can tell you what to expect. Please note that tickets are booked in advance, at Green Lund website.
Lovely Halloween environment
First and foremost, the park offers a wonderful Halloween environment. Gröna Lund has been decorated with no fewer than 7 tonnes pumpkins. The park is also full of all kinds of creatures lurking around: ghosts, ghouls, skeletons, bloody creatures and monsters.
We, who have never visited Halloween at Gröna Lund before, were incredibly impressed by the how many actors that populate the park. Moreover, we were impressed by their empathy and commitment.
Some creatures feel a little 'kinder', especially in the area aimed at younger children, while other characters are more scary. Our fellow blogger Christian, from Food and travel blog, even found a new mate ...
Five houses of horror
This year's version of Halloween at Gröna Lund features five houses of horror, one of which, Obscura, is new this year. Please note that you are not normally allowed to take photos in the houses of horror, but we were allowed to do so during the press screening. However, there was one exception - not even the press was allowed to take photos inside the new horror house Obscura ...
The ship
The "ship" is an oriental vessel carrying a thousand-year-old curse. Inside, you'll meet many spooky characters... Recommended age: 15 years, or 13 years in the company of an adult.
sects
From the garden outside the "Sect", you are greeted by a spooky garden filled with cobwebs and unpleasant creatures lurking about. Inside the house, someone sneaks up and whispers "Welcome to the family"... Recommended age: 13 years, or 11 years in the company of an adult.
House of Even Worse Nightmares
"House of Nighmares" gets an extra level of horror on Halloween and is now called "House of Even Worse Nightmares". Here we meet the story of Dr Morphio, and in the corridors a girl lurks, hoping we will help her... Recommended age: 11 years and 9 years in adult company.
House of ill repute
The fun house has been taken over by evil clowns and has been renamed the "Naughty House". And clowns can still be pretty scary... Recommended age: 13 years and 11 years in adult company.
News of the year: Obscura
The big news this year is the "Obscura" horror house. This new attraction is described as follows:
As the heavy steel doors slam shut behind you, you become part of a horrific story, guided by your innermost fears - all directed by the girl Obscura.
Photography was not allowed in here, and we can't tell you much more than this... Be prepared for darkness, a locked room and a lot of scary experiences. Do you dare?
Horror parade with evil creatures
Another thing that happens during Halloween at Gröna Lund is the delicious "horror parade", which is shown twice a day. Really fun to watch!
Halloween rides at Gröna Lund in 2023
Do you like rides? Weather permitting, all attractions remain open except Jetline, Flying Carpet and Twister.
Fun at the Small Area - for the youngest ones
Want to experience Halloween at Gröna Lund with younger children? Then the "Little Area" is the place to be. This year's new feature is the 'Witch's Magic Path', which is full of surprises, pumpkins with poor dental hygiene, shadows and glittering lights.
Other experiences for the younger ones include the Spider Girl (Key Girl), the Witch's Cauldron (Teacups) and Pettson and Findus' Haunted House.
Food and drink at Gröna Lund
There are of course plenty of food and drink stops around Gröna Lund. During Halloween, you can try pumpkin soup, spirello (a kind of twisted fried potato), sliders (small burgers) and ice cream in a black or orange cone. We also found some super delicious chocolate treats on a stick ...
Best this week
Best this week? Every "Happy Friday" we try to focus on the best of the week. There's so much misery going on in the world (and you have so much personal stuff to deal with), so we believe that deliberately focus on what is positive. This week we got a big dose of positivity on Halloween at Gröna Lund! Your turn... what has been the most positive part of your week?

The week ahead
The week ahead? Well, we will actually be travelling to Uzbekistan! This is a destination we've been dreaming of for a long time, so when we were able to partner with the Uzbekistan Tourism Organisation, we couldn't say no. You can follow the trip in real time on Instagram at @freedomtravelnews.
Here at FREEDOMtravel, we update as soon as we can. In the meantime, we offer reports on Tunisia and the Philippines. In addition, you can read the continuation of the travel story about Ethiopia, via our guest writer Anna Nilsson Spets.

It looks like a really impressive arrangement at the Green. So cool for those who like that. But I am so easily frightened that I would probably fly to the ceiling even in the area for small children 😉.
The best part of the week has probably been the whole week. That it has been a quiet and pleasant week for recovery and recuperation.
Have a nice Friday!
