New marketplace and security control inaugurated at Arlanda airport

On 10 October, Stockholm Arlanda Airport's new 11,000 square metre Marketplace and the airport's new, faster security checkpoint were inaugurated with speeches by Swedavia's CEO Jonas Abrahamsson and Andreas Carlson, Sweden's Minister of Infrastructure and Housing. The development work, with a new security checkpoint and marketplace, is the largest investment ever at Arlanda and contributes to a significantly improved passenger experience for the airport's travellers.

Swedes say air travel is "good" and "good manners

A new survey by hotel and travel search site momondo shows that Swedes have strong opinions about what is - and is not - socially acceptable before and during the flight. According to the survey, 60% have experienced unacceptable behaviour both on planes and at the airport. Below, momondo lists some unspoken rules of behaviour that many Swedes subscribe to:

  • At the security checkpoint, it's all about speed. But you shouldn't be too hasty either ...
  • Don't take up multiple seats for a nap - and be sure to wake up if the passenger in the next seat on the aircraft needs to get out.
  • Feel free to take off your shoes during the flight, but keep your socks on!
  • Avoid spraying perfume, painting and filing nails, plucking eyebrows and styling hair on board the aircraft.
  • Don't hum your favourite songs, or laugh out loud at a book or film.
  • Feel free to recline the seat IF you ask the passenger behind you, if it's a long-haul flight or if the person in front of you reclines the seat.
  • Skip the tuna and cheese that smells like foot sweat on your sandwich.
  • The person sitting at the window is the one with the mandate to control whether there is a view or shade during the flight.

In the future, campers will spend more time in vehicles

More and more Swedish campers are spending more time in their camper vans. This is according to a survey by the Swedish Caravan and Motorhome Association (HRF). 2022 was a new record year with an increase of 11 per cent compared to the previous year. How much do campers live in their vehicles today compared to five years ago? Half (44.7 per cent) answered 'slightly more' or 'significantly more'. Today, an average of 30.2 nights are spent in a campervan per year. When asked "how do you think you will camp in the future?" 70 per cent responded that the extent will remain the same, but 27 per cent will camp more.

Grip on snow and ice most important for motorists when choosing winter tyres

When choosing new winter tyres for their car, motorists think that grip on snow and ice is the most important issue. This is according to a survey conducted by Kantar on behalf of the Swedish Energy Agency and the tyre industry, as part of the Däckrazzia collaboration. 42% thought that grip on snow and ice was the most important issue. 30% cited tyre test results. The importance of price was addressed in a separate question. Three out of four said that price is one of several important issues. Only a few stated that price is the most important issue.

Several innovations at Tjolöholm Castle's 36th Christmas market

During the weekends of 17 November to 3 December, the 36th Christmas market will be held at the city's Tjolöholm Castle. It is one of Sweden's largest Christmas markets, offering an atmospheric Christmas experience from Christmas tea in the castle to entertaining performances and wonderful meetings with craftsmen and exhibitors. This year's Christmas market is all about traditions, crafts, food and atmospheric music. "New for this year is that we will have a music and food stage in Magasinet. We also have free admission for all children", says Philippa Lindberg, Event Manager at Tjolöholm Castle.

With equal parts magic, dreamy scenery and music, visitors are invited to become part of the light during an experiential walk. Winter at Norrviken is arranged 30 November-17 December, Wednesday - Sunday 15-21.

Reflection of the week

Manners and etiquette on the aeroplane, well, it becomes a bit important because you're sitting so close to each other. Personally, I can find it annoying if people hit the backrest hard with their knees or feet - or if children do it without their parents telling them. Do you have any thoughts on airline etiquette?
