Decrease in the number of newly registered caravans and motorhomes

Fewer motorhomes and caravans were registered in January than in the same month a year ago. The industry is still affected by a weak currency, which has led to price adjustments, and high interest rates. "The weather at the beginning of the year was really cold with a lot of snow and this of course also affects deliveries", says Per Nilsson, chairman of the Swedish Caravan and Motorhome Association.

  • Caravan registrations for January 2024: 12. corresponding month of the previous year: 37. (67.5 % decrease)
  • Motorhome registrations for January 2024: 45. Corresponding month of the previous year: 66 (31.8 % decrease).

Clear message - stop further tax cuts on motorhomes!

At a press conference at Kabe AB, Edward Riedel (M), Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, and Mats Green, Spokesperson for Energy and Industrial Policy (M) gave a clear message - further deterioration of the tax on motorhomes must be stopped. At the same time, they urged the relevant authorities to wait to make changes to the current regulations until politicians have time to come back with new legislation.

Camping trends for 2024

The pandemic and "swimming holidays" triggered more and more people to invest in buying a caravan or motorhome. So what are the trends for 2024? Here are some trends, according to the National Association of the Caravan and Motorhome Industry.

  • Electricity without a charging point - More and more caravan, motorhome and van owners are turning to solar power to run all the electrics in their vehicles.
  • Fixed address increasingly popular - More and more people are choosing to rent a seasonal pitch at a campsite to use their recreational vehicle as a summer holiday home.
  • Increasing environmental awareness - Research (on husbilskampen.se) shows that camping is the second-lowest impact holiday form on the environment.
  • Destinations with their own campsites - More and more attractions and events are attracting their own campsites.
  • Inspiration via social channels - There are now millions of photos of camping on Instagram and many people are inspired by them.
  • Smart caravans - Connected monitoring systems and control of lighting, heating, cooling and security are becoming more and more common.

These holiday habits are considered most off-putting

More than one in four Swedes admit that their partner's holiday habits make them hesitate to travel together again. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, Hotels.com presents a new survey showing which travel habits are considered the most off-putting:

  1. Unpacking is the first thing you do when you get to your hotel room.
  2. Spending too much time in the bathroom
  3. Not reading up on the destination and letting me act as a tourist guide
  4. Change the temperature in the hotel room without asking
  5. Eat and drink everything from your hotel room's minibar, even though it's expensive.

Half consider the breakfast buffet (51 %) and later check-out time (39 %) to be helpful, as well as daily cleaning (32%) and unpacking service (15 %). Here are five hotels with services to break annoying holiday habits:

  • Nobis Hotel, Stockholm - to avoid planning hassles
  • Clarion Hotel Post, Gothenburg - for a hidden refuge
  • The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel, London - for good sleep
