Great countries for motorhome holidays
We've travelled in many countries by motorhome, and most countries have something nice and interesting to offer, although in different ways. Here is a list of some countries where we have had great experiences with a motorhome.
1. Germany
Travelling by motorhome in Germany is very popular, and it's not hard to see why. Travelling with a motorhome in Germany is easy and makes you feel welcome - there are plenty of pitches everywhere. What's more, prices are manageable and there's a huge amount to see and discover, from wonderful nature experiences to picturesque towns and magnificent castles.
2. the Czech Republic
Another great country to discover by motorhome is the Czech Republic. This country is incredibly green and offers everything from dramatic rock formations to mighty castles and fortresses. What's more, prices are good, especially outside Prague. The caravanning culture is nowhere near as developed as in Germany, but there are plenty of campsites and these are often very reasonably priced.
3 Estonia
A few years ago we travelled all over Estonia by motorhome, and it was fantastic. The nature in Estonia is very beautiful and there is also a lot of interesting history to learn about, often with links to Sweden. There are campsites all over the country and it is often both allowed and easy to free camp.
4) Croatia
If the heat of southern Europe appeals, Croatia can be a great option for motorhome travel. The long coastline is beautiful everywhere and there are plenty of lovely islands and picturesque towns. Campsites are often large, beautiful and well-maintained, and the only downside is that they are not always cheap. There are only a limited number of pitches, but there are smaller, often family-owned, so-called ""campsites"".Mini-camps" that you can test.
5. France
France is a great country to discover by motorhome. The countryside offers everything from mountains to sandy beaches, as well as exciting cities, historical sites and great food. In France, motorhomes are welcomed and there are plenty of campsites and pitches. In other words, travelling around here is easy!
6 - Albania
If you want to go a little further, and have a more exotic experience, Albania could be an option. It's been quite a while since we travelled here, but we beloved the dramatic mountains, the beautiful beaches and the friendly people. Campsites and pitches can sometimes be a little less well organised, but you always feel welcome and the prices are very good. Just remember that Albania is outside the EU!
7. Finland
Last summer we took the motorhome to Finland, and we loved it. We travelled in high season, in July, and the great thing was that it wasn't crowded. There was always space on campsites and pitches, without having to book in advance, and it was easy to find nice spots for free camping. In our neighbouring country, you can discover beautiful nature, charming wooden towns and interesting history, among other things.
8 - Poland
Poland is one of our favourite countries for motorhome travel. The country is only one ferry crossing away from Sweden and the prices are relatively good. In addition, there is plenty to experience in terms of beautiful cities, historical sights and long sandy beaches. The camping culture may not be as developed as in some other countries, but there are plenty of campsites and these are usually very affordable.
9. Switzerland
Switzerland is an incredibly beautiful country to travel in and is ideal for those who appreciate beautiful scenery, with dramatic mountains and mirror-like lakes. Prices are relatively high, but the advantage of a motorhome is that you can choose to cook your own food. Campsites are usually nice and well-maintained, and there is usually a bus service between the campsite and the neighbouring town.
10. Italy
Italy is a fantastic country with so much to discover, from lakes, beaches and vineyards to cities and historical sites. Travelling to Italy by motorhome is popular, and there are plenty of sites and campsites available. Just keep in mind that the most popular areas can get crowded in the high season.
More great countries for motorhome holidays
Of course, there are even more great countries for motorhome holidays. For example, it is very popular to spend the winter with a motorhome in Spain, Portugal or Morocco. Of course, there are also many people who choose to travel in Norway, Denmark and many other European countries.

I don't holiday with a motorhome but Norway is a favourite country to travel around in. It's easy to get around by boat, train and plane. I love archipelagos so therefore Sweden and Greece also qualify on my list. But also Finland where it is also easy to get around without your own car. But there are many countries that are liked ..... However, I am not a direct "fan" of travelling around Germany. (But there are a lot of nice things to see here too).

There are many nice motorhome countries and it is strange that we have never travelled with the motorhome to Poland or the Czech Republic. We had almost planned for Albania when we were down in Dubrovnik but we are not allowed to drive our motorhome outside the EU on our driving licences and we are a little too law-abiding to tempt fate, so Switzerland also falls away. However, we are becoming more and more fond of Germany and the Germans do every time we visit some cosy cities or other places. How much there is to see and how nice most Germans are!

Now I have never travelled by motorhome, the closest I have come is a road trip by car down to Lebanon. And then I remember that the Greek mainland offered many beautiful views, and then of course there are many other things worth seeing. However, I do not know what it is like to travel with a motorhome.
How wonderful to be able to travel so freely and discover so many places along the way.

Northern Norway is stunningly beautiful and perfect for motorhomes. I am also a bit surprised that Germany holds the first place. Bavaria is beautiful but is it enough for a first place?
