We are not only a tourist here in South Africa, but there is also a lot of everyday life on the long journey. We have to work and fix a lot of practical things all the time. Today, Friday, we take the opportunity to tell you about life "behind the scenes" ... Happy Friday!

Being on a long journey
Being on a long trip is a bit different from travelling for a week or two. When you only have one or two weeks, you often want to "maximise" your time and experience as much as possible in the limited time you have.
When you're travelling for a long time, you want to see a lot, but you also need to alternate with quieter periods and some "everyday life". We also have to work from time to time, so we must have time at the computers.
A week in friends' fantastic summer house
We have had the fantastic opportunity to spend a week in our friends' summer house on the coast, at Eersterivierstrand west of Gqeberha (Porth Elizabeth). We'll tell you more about the house and the location later - the house is in fact to rent via airbnb, and is perfect for those who want to have many beds and incomparable View. For now, we only offer a teaser with a few pictures ...
Everyday life on a long journey
Of course, we enjoy fantastic views, lovely walks and interesting excursions, but we also live quite a lot of everyday life. During our time in the house we have been working a lot. So what do we do when we work? Here are some examples:
- Creating content for our channels: Planning content, writing reports, sorting and editing photos, editing films, updating Instagram and Facebook ...
- Communicates with readers/followers: Responding to comments on the site and social media, answering questions by email ...
- Working on advertising: Working (together with media sellers) on advertising, replacing ads, making customised ad proposals, creating ads, reporting statistics ...
- Works with sponsored articles: Discussing possible article collaborations by email, writing or editing sponsored articles ...
- Doing editorial work on guest writers: Communicates with guest writers about articles, submits guest writers' articles, sends writers on various assignments, writes monthly emails to the writers ...
- Planning future trips: Plans own upcoming trips as well as press trips, sometimes as co-organiser for a larger group ...
- Planning future fairs: Planning for three fairs where we will participate, give lectures, organise Destination Square …
- Takes care of the company's finances: Invoicing, paying bills, sending documents to the accounting office ...
- Maintains the site: Updating plug-ins, clearing spam comments, solving problems, communicating with IT developers ...
- Travel planning: Planning the upcoming trip in South Africa, booking accommodations, liaising with travel partners ...
As well as working, everyday life also involves washing, cooking, washing up, packing and repacking, and so on. Here in South Africa you can easily pay for services like laundry, but we find it quite nice to look after ourselves, and a bit of practical work is a nice break.
We do, of course, eat in restaurants, and there will probably be more of that as we get closer Cape Townand when we are joined by Peter's son and son's wife. So far we have mostly cooked in the house. In the evenings it's dinner with meat, chicken or fish. In the middle of the day it can be something simple like noodles or a hot cup of soup...
A first film from South Africa
Peter has put together a first film from South Africa, from the Kruger Park. You can check it out here:
Best this week
The best part of this week is that we had the opportunity to stay in our friends' fantastic house on the South African coast. Here we have had the opportunity to work, and at the same time enjoying the fantastic the views of the sea.
Your turn ... What has been the best part of your week, big or small?
The week ahead
We have now left our friends' summer house and set off on new adventures. Here at FREEDOMtravel you will be able to read reports from our recent travels in South Africa.

Yes, there is so much work involved in running a professional site like you do! It is important to have structure. And of course it can be nice to have everyday chores even when you are travelling.
The best thing since last Friday is that we were on a motorhome tour in Eskilstuna over that weekend. Very nice and interesting!
Will look at the film a little later. Must now prepare this weekend's motorhome trip to Gävle with friends 🙂 .

Truly a journey that seems to contain everything. Great fun to see the film and join the journey. Read every day even if I don't always comment.
Keep up the good work.
