Beautiful places in Poland
Poland offers both beautiful nature and fantastic cities. There are also plenty of castles and other historic buildings. Choosing ten beautiful places in Poland, when there are so many, is not easy, but we have done our best.
1. the Tri-City area: Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot
On the Baltic coast, not far from Sweden, you'll find the Polish Tri-City area, which includes the cities of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot. The former Hanseatic city of Gdansk is perhaps one of the country's most beautiful cities and offers a lovely setting with historical sights, museums and restaurants.
Gdynia also offers a pleasant atmosphere, with a harbour, beach, museums, restaurants and shops. Finally, you won't want to miss the gem of Sopot, with its beautiful beaches, seafront promenade, turn-of-the-century setting and countless holiday activities.
2. The whole peninsula
The Hel Peninsula is a long, narrow spit of land almost 35 kilometres long and only between 100 metres and three kilometres wide. Stunningly beautiful sandy beaches run along both sides of the peninsula. There are plenty of campsites here and it is very popular for both swimming and surfing. A holiday dream that almost feels a little exotic!
3. Toruń
Torun is a beautiful and historically interesting small town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is beautifully situated on the Vistula River and has a lot to offer. Here you can see the house where astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus was born or taste the town's famous gingerbread, which has been baked here since the 14th century.
4. Łódź
Once upon a time, Łódź was a successful city in the textile industry. Over time, as Asian factories outcompeted the business, unemployment hit the population. Łódź has had a reputation as a dull and tired working-class city, but this has now changed completely. This vibrant city has been given a major facelift and is now full of museums, cultural centres, architecture, hotels, restaurants and outdoor events.
5. Poznan
Poznan is famous for its marvellous Old Town Square, where you can check out the fabulous Town Hall, a Renaissance building from the 16th century, adorned with two trestles on the roof that wrestle with each other every day at 12:00. Poznan is also famous for its delicious St Martin croissants, which can only be made by certified producers. There are also plenty of memorials in the city, which tell the story of various dramatic eras in history.
6. Wroclaw
In Wroclaw, beautiful and colourful houses crowd around lively squares filled with outdoor cafés. Here you can stroll in historic surroundings, savour delicious Polish food or paddle the River Oder. You can also go in search of all the little statues of dwarfs - nobody really knows how many - that are all over the city.
7. Krakow
Krakow is an incredibly beautiful city that has a lot to offer, not least in terms of history. For example, you can discover the Old Town, Wawel Hill with the castle and the Jewish Quarter. Just outside Krakow you'll find the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which is a very exciting place to visit and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
8. Zakopane
Zakopane is located in the Tatra Mountains in Poland, south of Krakow and on the border with Slovakia. Here you will find stunningly beautiful mountains, intense greenery and charming houses in a special architectural style. The area is an incredibly popular holiday destination, both among Poles and foreign tourists. In winter you can ski here, and in summer it is popular for hiking.
9. Bialowieza National Park
The Bialowieza Forest is the single remaining part of the primeval forest that once covered the entire European lowlands, and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bialowieza National Park is located in the eastern part of Poland and is home to a large number of wild animals such as deer, moose, lynx and wolves. The king of the forest is the largest and heaviest land mammal in all of Europe: the bison, or European bison as it is also known.
10. Masurian Lakes
The Masurian Lakes are located in the north-eastern part of Poland. This is a stunningly beautiful area with around 3,000 lakes. One of the most popular places to visit is the small holiday resort of Mikołajki, which attracts many visitors in the summer, not least with its popular boat trips on lakes and canals.

So many times we have talked about going with the motorhome to Poland but always some other destination has ended up higher in priority. There is so much to see and experience so we really have to try to get a visit there in the future. Our respective Poland visits are 15-20 years back in time so it's probably time again....
