Uddevalla named Sweden's most motorhome-friendly municipality
Uddevalla has received the award as "Sweden's most motorhome-friendly municipality 2023". The award was presented by Husbilsklubben.se during a ceremony at Färjestad racecourse in Karlstad.
The motivation reads: "Uddevalla municipality seems to have understood this with motorhome tourism. There are already a number of motorhome pitches both in the centre and out in the archipelago. In addition, the municipality is in the process of completing further pitches at Gustafsberg, which will be ready in spring 2024. The municipality's website also contains information about what applies to motorhomes in the municipality. You feel welcome as a campervan driver in Uddevalla."
The Riksbank's interest rate announcement - the starting shot for increased travel
The economic situation has governed travel patterns and had an impact on Swedes' travel behaviour in recent years. With last week's announcement of an interest rate cut by the Riksbank, the door is opening for increased travelling. This is because more than a third of Swedes say that higher mortgage rates have affected their holiday travel and 43% say that a change in the economy would make them take more trips abroad in 2024, according to the latest Sifo survey by the travel agency Tickets.
More expensive holidays abroad - where to go!
The weak Swedish krona means that Swedes need to travel far to experience a cheaper summer holiday, according to Danske Bank. In fact, there are only five countries in the world that Swedes can travel to where they feel that it has become cheaper, that is, where the purchasing power of Swedes has increased. Countries where it is cheaper to go on holiday this year with Swedish kronor in your pocket are - Lebanon, Chile, Japan and Czech Republic.

New report on travel trends: last minute, solo travel and AI
Ahead of the summer and holiday season, Klarna has produced a new travel trends report showing that Swedes are keen to go on solo trips and make last-minute bookings this year. Another trend that is on the rise is the use of AI technology to select travel destinations. The report shows that Swedes are using different strategies to make their money go further by looking for cheaper accommodation (29 %), cheaper transport (23 %) and reducing the number of trips (23 %) and to wait for last minute offers (21 %).
Reflection of the week
It's still a bit shocking that Astrid Lindgren's World in Vimmerby is twice as expensive for adults as Skansen. But maybe there's a reason, we don't have a good overview?
