We've been on board the MSC Poesia and had a look around. The cruise ship was in Stockholm during one of its voyages, and we had the chance to look around for an afternoon and evening. Come along for the ride!

The cruise ship MSC Poesia
MSC Poesia is a cruise ship owned by the company MSC Cruises. The ship makes many different cruises, in the Mediterranean, South America, the Baltic Sea & Norwegian Fjords as well as Greenland & Iceland.
The ship is not one of the largest in MSC Cruises, but still has several bars and restaurants, areas for spa and gym and a large lovely pool deck.
An afternoon on board MSC Poesia
The ship MSC Poesia had a slightly longer stop in Frihamnen in Stockholmand in connection with this, they took the opportunity to invite the media. We listened to a presentation and had the chance to ask questions. Then we were guided around the ship and finally we had dinner in one of the restaurants.
Questions (or maybe prejudices?) about cruising with this type of cruise ship? We'll get to that at the end!
Delicious pool deck on board MSC Poesia
Stockholm was at its very best, with glorious sunshine, and the ship's large pool deck looked quite inviting. Not all guests were on board MSC Poesia - some had travelled to Stockholm to experience Sweden's capital - but of those who remained, many hung out here. No wonder!
We also had a chance to hang out at the bar on the pool deck, where we had a glass of bubbly in the sun.
Tour on board MSC Poesia - bars and restaurants
We then continued the tour by walking around the MSC Poesia.
We soon discovered that there are a whole bunch of different bars and lounges. The most delicious, however, has to be the "Zebra Bar", which is apparently the bar with the most "hustle and bustle". We really loved the striped theme here!
Next door is another large bar, where the atmosphere is quieter.
There are also several different restaurants. When you buy a cruise, it is full board, which means that breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. On MSC Poesia you can choose to eat your dinner in the buffet restaurant or in the À la carte restaurant. There is also a sushi restaurant, which is not included in the full board.
Tour on board MSC Poesia - entertainment and activities
So, what do you do on board MSC Poesia all day? If you don't want to spend time in the pool area, there are also other activities. There is a spa area, with wellness, juice bar and gym.
If you choose to use the exercise machines in the gym, you have a great view!
There are also other types of activities. For example, there is a large casino.
There is also a large theatre, which can accommodate 1100 guests. It shows a variety of programmes, from classical music to pop music.
Cabins - how to stay on board MSC Poesia
So how do you live on board MSC Poesia? We got to peek into a balcony cabin, which is the most popular category. No wonder, because of course it is delicious to look out over the sea and all new destinations from the cabin!
Some cabins can sleep a maximum of two people. In the cabin we looked into, there is the possibility of sleeping two more - one on the sofa and one in a bed that folds down from the wall.
Dinner on board MSC Poesia
We ended our visit on board MSC Poesi with a dinner in the à la carte restaurant included in the full board. Here you can scan the day's menu with your mobile phone, and then you can choose starter, main course and dessert.
We chose corn fritters for a starter, canneloni for a main course and then chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Everything tasted very good, without standing out. What stood out, however, was the speed and service spirit of the staff. They were always there in a second with grated cheese, salt, pepper, water, wine or whatever we wanted ...
Prejudices about ticking ...?
During the presentation, we heard about three common prejudices about cruising, which we can also recognise. We ourselves have travelled on a cruise in the Mediterranean once, with another company. Here we offer the answers we received from MSC, along with our own reflections.
Prejudice 1: It is only old people who tick
MSC: No, not at all! The main target groups are families with children (35 %), couples aged 46-65 (24 %) and couples over 65 (20 %). This may be different on different ships. Ships with more children's activities attract more families with children.
FREEDOMtravel: When we travelled on the cruise, it was predominantly middle-aged and older couples, if we remember correctly. But it was mixed. It can probably vary between different ships and destinations.
Prejudice 2: It's boring on board
MSC: Absolutely not! From spas and gyms to entertainment and shows, there's so much to do on board.
FREEDOMtravel: It never got boring when we cruised! It was almost a little difficult to do all the activities on board, as you also want to get off and experience the different destinations.
Prejudice 3: It is expensive - a luxury product
MSC: An average cruise with us costs SEK 15,000 per person, and that includes food and beverage packages. We want to be an alternative to charter.
FREEDOMtravel: What is expensive/worthwhile/luxury varies from person to person. Judge what is worthwhile for you! Just don't forget to check what's included, and to bear in mind that you may need to add for flights and for excursions on land.
Have you ever been on a cruise?
Have you ever been on a cruise? If so, have you cruised outside the Nordic countries, for example in Southern Europe? How was your experience?

Ditte says:
Glad you were on board here and equally glad to read your thoughts.
Have cruised a number of times in Europe, the Mediterranean, along the entire coast of Norway, a couple of times in the Caribbean and in Asia and the very best cruise was starting in Chile, rounding Cape Horn, Falkland Islands, Ushuaia, Patagonia, some even ending in Buenos Aires. The last cruise in South America was absolutely the best.
The most "boring" we thought was in the Caribbean. If there are several large ships to these small islands, it becomes crowded. Also, in our opinion, nothing to see and experience.
Even cruising along the coast of Norway, to Kirkenes, was absolutely fantastic and then we were gone for 10 days, starting in Amsterdam.
Visited some fjords and cities on the way north and others on the way back to Amsterdam.
Having a balcony cabin is so worth it and we have had it on most cruises. Then we think it is important to have the freedom to eat in any dining room we want and at any time. On the cruises we have been on, you can eat all day if you want. Not always in the larger dining rooms but in the smaller ones. Has varied a lot.
We have also chosen ships that were not gigantic and have liked it.
Would like to go again on a slightly longer cruise. Is also keen to cruise on the Doro River in Portugal There are smaller ships that apply.

BP says:
It was probably Ama if you remember her who was a dedicated cruiser and posted photo bombs from her cruises to and in different continents.
I can safely say that it is not for me. I'd be claustrophobic in two days max.
But I know that my brother-in-law, who is in a wheelchair, and his wife often cruise, as it is very convenient for a disabled person to see the world. He says...
