We are preparing to lift our houseboat, for inspection. Lifting our 35 tonne dwelling is a big project and we are a bit nervous...

Dinner in the Old Town with friends
Last weekend we had dinner in Old town in Stockholm, together with friends. They took us to a cosy little French restaurant called Pastis. What a wonderful place! Very personalised feel and very good food! The oysters were the best we've had in a long time and the chevre starter was cruel.
A week full of events ... again!
The rest of our week has been full of events. on board the MSC Poesia, a cruise ship from MSC Cruises, which was temporarily docked in the Free Port of Stockholm. Interesting!
Wednesday continued with a breakfast seminar, where Sistaminuten.se presented its travel statistics. We will tell you a little bit more on Monday, in this week's travel news.
Last but not least, it was time for the Antor network of tourist offices to meet. A great opportunity for us to meet tourist offices for different countries around Europe and the world!
Soon time to lift the houseboat
Soon, at the beginning of next week, it will be time for us to lift the houseboat! You need to check the hull of boats regularly, and we haven't had our houseboat on land since 2013. In other words, it's been ten years ... Our houseboat is completely still, in fresh water, so the wear and tear is not so great, but of course you still don't know how time affects ...
Lifting up our houseboat, which weighs about 35 tonnes, is a big project, and we have to say we're a bit nervous... We've booked in the marina (who will do the actual lifting) as well as plumbers (who will disconnect the boat) and surveyors (who will check the thickness of the hull and the like).
For us, it's all about preparation now. We need to empty the fridge (as the electricity will be disconnected) and pack everything that might fall over or break (glasses and crockery for example) in moving boxes. Fingers crossed that everything goes well!
Best this week
Best this week? We are very happy that we managed to book a new date for the houseboat lift, after we had to cancel earlier. The week's events have also offered pleasant meetings with industry colleagues. Great fun! And the weather in Sweden continues to be fantastic!
Your turn... What can you highlight as positive from your week?
The week ahead
In the coming week, the focus will be on the houseboat for our part. We don't know exactly what needs to be done, that remains to be seen. In any case, it will be on land for a few days, and in the meantime we live in the motorhome.
Here at FREEDOMtravel you can expect a mix of reports - Sweden, Europe, the world, houseboat life and motorhome life. Have a great Friday and weekend!

How nice about Pastis. One of our favourite restaurants. Good lunches too.
I understand that you are excited about the lifting of your home. The houseboats at our quay, municipal places, must from time to time go away and get their boat inspected so they must be movable. Fingers crossed of course that everything will go well. I assume that there are many houseboats with you that have been lifted or will do so.
Best of the week? A visit to the cool rooftop bar Pelago which is a couple of steps above the Gondola, 700m2 large. Offers probably Stockholm's best view - Soup theatre at Stadsteatern / Kulturhuset yesterday was very nice and also that I feel better after some acute illnesses.

I'm glad it's one of your favourite restaurants! I can definitely understand that!
Yes, some of the houseboats here are lifted, of course, but not all. Some people here live in so-called aquavillas, and they don't need to be lifted. But the rest of us, who have different boats or barges, we have to check the hull sometimes.
Nice with tips about the rooftop bar Pelago! I have heard of it, but have not been there ...
Glad to hear you are feeling better! Hugs from us

I see that Ditte already wrote what I wanted to say. Pastis is Ditte's favourite restaurant in Gamla Stan. And lucky me, someone who used to own Pastis has opened "his own" here in Täby. Have tried oysters there (of course) and they were as outstanding as yours: -)
It will be interesting to see Freedom when the boat is hanging in the air, so to speak; -) What luck that you can sleep in the motorhome in the meantime. Hope everything goes according to plan with the inspection: -)

I hadn't actually checked it out, but can absolutely understand it, a very nice place! Glad that there is a "detour" in Täby too! 😉
And yes, it will be exciting. Promise to come back with pictures!
