We took the train from Oslo and arrived in Gothenburg after 3 hours. It is such a convenient form of transport as you can work on the way to and from Gothenburg.

A historic stay at Hôtel Eggers

Just a stone's throw from Gothenburg Central Station, Hôtel Eggers is a beautiful hotel with a lot of history. With its origins dating back to 1859, the hotel has old charm in its unique decor, such as authentic carpets on the floors and stucco and crystal chandeliers on the ceiling.

Hotel rooms overlook the bustling Drottningtorget square or the peaceful hotel courtyard. The hotel's commitment to sustainability is evident in its Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification and exclusive use of wind-generated electricity.

Fika and Spa: A Swedish delight

Our afternoon began with a traditional coffee break at Café Husaren, home to perhaps the world's largest cinnamon bun, located in a heritage-listed building along the Haga walkway.

The relaxation continued at the Haga Baths, an iconic spa offering a haven of Art Nouveau pools, rejuvenating treatments, saunas, pools, an infrared light room and an extensive selection of fitness and yoga classes.

Culinary excellence and shopping spree

As evening approached, we enjoyed a six-course tasting menu at SK Mat & Människor, where star chef Stefan Karlsson showcased the finest in modern Scandinavian cuisine based on the best seasonal ingredients.

Dishes included oyster tartare with onion roe, cod with black garlic, herbs & white wine sauce, duck with chervil, artichoke & fresh wasabi, cheese with green tomato jam & rhubarb sorbet with marengue, tonka and pistachio.

The following day we went on a shopping spree, uncovering vintage designer treasures at Ex Exklusiv Secondhand and immersing ourselves in the latest fashions at Aplace store and Design Only. We also visited the luxurious NK shopping centre.

Bar Bulot: Located in the heart of central Gothenburg, inside the market hall, is Bar Bulot, run by the chef duo Gabriel Melim Andersson and Emil Bjelke. It is a lunch wine bar that focuses on natural wines and food that goes well with them. They collaborate with local producers and farmers and run the evening restaurant Bulot. At Bar Boulat we had a fine dining experience at a good price.

We chose the olives, white asparagus, delicious waffles with tartar, a cucumber burrata salad and swan cream and meringue dessert.

Cultural immersion at the Röhsska Museum

The Röhsska Museum is dedicated to design and crafts. The museum's extensive collection offered a deep dive into the world of design, from historical artefacts to contemporary innovations, and I particularly loved the Asian collection.

Gastronomy and opera under the stars

The culinary journey continued at Gurras, where street food met gourmet finesse. Gurras is located on a beautiful old street with warm terracotta colours and the restaurant is only 1.5 years old. They have been fully booked since opening with their unique Swedish cuisine.

We loved their homemade bread, which looked like a croissant, and butter, creative mocktails and tasty green juices, crispy fried Asian chicken, tempura prawns and main course of fish with potatoes.

After dinner, the Gothenburg Opera presented "Viva La Mamma", a performance complemented by the striking architecture of the building.

The evening ended with a toast at Champagnebaren Kyrkogatan 13, a cosy place with a selection of champagnes and seasonal seafood dishes.

Sailing through history on Paddan

Our adventure and history knowledge peaked with a Paddan boat trip, gliding through Gothenburg's ancient canals and revealing the city's illustrious past and vibrant present.

A Seafood Lover's Haven: Feskekôrka: Feskekôrka, affectionately known as the "Fish Church" by locals, stands as one of Gothenburg's most iconic landmarks. The distinctive building has an indoor market where you can buy a delightful array of fresh seafood delicacies in every imaginable form. A hearty bowl of Lilla Åstol's creamy fish soup at Feskekôrka marked the perfect last meal of our Gothenburg weekend.

Liseberg

The largest amusement park in the Nordic region promises a kaleidoscope of experiences. With thrilling rides, vibrant flower displays, delicious food, refreshing drinks and captivating entertainment, Liseberg caters for visitors of all ages.

Whether you're looking for adrenaline-pumping roller coasters or tranquil strolls through flowering gardens, Liseberg offers activities to delight every heart. We did all the scariest roller coasters and had an ice cream with Daim chocolate to end our stay!
