More car parks along the Göta Canal

Göta Canal is one of Sweden's best-loved tourist destinations, as motorhome owners have discovered. "We are seeing a steady increase in the number of motorhomes seeking out the canal's beautiful surroundings," says Roger Altsäter, CEO of AB Göta kanalbolag. New caravan sites in 2024:

  • Malfors motorway service area, Ljungsbro (Open from 15 June)
  • G:a Motala Verkstad motorway service area (scheduled to open in July)

More and more Swedes want to discover new destinations

Sun and beach holidays are close to the hearts of Swedes, and the main reason for travelling abroad is to get sun and warmth. Since the pandemic, Swedes have prioritised familiar destinations in favour of discovering new ones, a trend that is now slowing down. Discovering new destinations will be the second most important reason for travelling abroad this year, compared to fourth place in 2023, according to the Tickets SIFO survey.

New travel habits + style tips for travelling

A whopping 95% of Swedes are planning to travel this summer, with 73% going abroad, according to this year's travel report from Klarna. With the holiday season around the corner, purchases of popular summer items such as bikinis (+319%), beach hats (+363%), flip flops (+345%) and sarongs (+149%) have increased (February vs May 2024). Now, Klarna's fashion director Emilia de Poret shares her style tips for travelling.

  • Chica trousers which are also comfortable, combined with a breathable top and an oversized blazer.
  • Sneakers or ballerina shoes is a good complement.
  • If you are travelling with a cabin bag only: Opt for classic pieces, such as the white shirt, which can be worn over a bikini or with denim shorts.
  • Accessories should not be underestimated; they take up little space and can add a quick twist to any look.
  • One piece swimsuits is making a big comeback, from 90s minimalism to bolder versions with decorations.

Utopia of the Seas is handed over to Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean International presents a new destination for holidaying families: Utopia of the Seas. The cruise, which departs from Port Canaveral (Orlando) Florida, will be offered with a three or four-night itinerary, and will make its debut on 19 July. The world's best sand sculptors visit Kalmar in July

On 15-19 July, giant sand sculptures will emerge at Kalmarsundsbadet in squid. The eleventh edition of the Kalmar International Sandsculpture FestivalThis year, 8 artist teams with a total of thirteen artists from different parts of the world are participating: Mexico, UK/Sweden, Indonesia/Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Norway/Sweden, Germany and Sweden.

The sculpture won the Kalmar International Sandsculpture Festival 2019 and is created by Paul and Remy Hoggard from the Netherlands/UK.

New flights to Toronto and Montreal

On Thursday 13 June, Air Canada was welcomed at Stockholm Arlanda. As of 13 June 2024, Air Canada will operate the Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - Toronto (YYZ) route twice a week. The Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - Montreal (YUL) route will be operated three times a week starting 15 June.

Aventours establishes charter from Skellefteå

A new charter operator is establishing itself at Skellefteå Airport. Starting this autumn, the Nordic charter operator Aventours will fly sun-seeking Norwegians to Cyprus and Rhodes from Skellefteå Airport. Aventours focuses on charter travel from regional airports and now sees a market in a growing Skellefteå. The trips are bookable on aventours.se.
