New for this year is that the First Camp camping chain has introduced the two sub-brands "Resort" and "Easy". A while ago we wrote about a Resort campsite, and now it was time to test an Easy campsite: First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge.

First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge

First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge is thus one of the campsites included in the new "sub-brand" First Camp Easy. We stayed one night to test what it means to stay at an Easy campsite. Would you also like to read our report on Resort camping?

First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge is located by the Dalälven river, relatively close to the centre of Borlänge.

First Camp Resort and First Camp Easy

The new sub-brands First Camp Resort and First Camp Easy are brand new for this year. The first brand refers to "summer holidays with extra everything" while the second refers to "the simple camping life".

First Camp Resort - summer holidays with extra everything

First Camp Resort is described as "the perfect choice for those who prefer that little bit extra on their summer holiday and want to go all out on facilities and activities". At a Resort campsite you can expect:

• Proximity to swimming pool and beach
• Family activity programme
• Kids club with Yessi
• Bouncy castle and playgrounds
• Mini golf or adventure golf
• Shop and restaurant/bistro

First Camp Easy - the simple camping life

First Camp Easy is described as "the perfect choice for those who prefer to enjoy the sweetness of camping life in all its simplicity, without extra frills and activities". At such a campsite you can expect:

• Smaller campsites with simpler standards
• Relaxed atmosphere
• Self-catering with fewer or no facilities such as shop/bistro
• Smaller playground, such as a swing or sandbox
• Emptying stations on site
• Easy check-in and check-out

Visiting First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge - a "First Camp Easy"

We arrived at First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge with our motorhome. It is of course also possible to come with a caravan or tent, and there are also several cabins in slightly different sizes and models.

Service at First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge

At First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge there is a reception in an unusually nice red reception building. Both in the evening and the next morning we got very good by the nice young guys and girls working here. There is also a bistro in the building, where you can eat simple dishes such as hamburgers and order beer, wine, desserts and the like.

There are two service centres, and the one closest to us was excellent. The other is in a slightly worse condition and would benefit from an update.

Sun and relaxation at First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge ...

This Easy campsite is a relaxed and peaceful place where you can relax in different ways. We enjoyed a moment in the sun at our campsite.

I (Helena) also walked down to the bathing area at Dalälven.

There is a nice jetty here, and when I was here some families with children were swimming from the jetty.

But it wasn't just people who took the opportunity to cool off in the river. Right next to the bathing area is a pasture with incredibly beautiful Highland Cattle. They also took the opportunity to have a bath!

More activities at First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge

First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge is an Easy-camping, which means that it not there are plenty of activities. However, there is a mini golf course and a playground.

So, what did we think of the campsite and of "First Camp Easy"?

First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge is a scenic and relaxed campsite, ideal for staying one or more nights. The atmosphere is calm and the noise level is pleasant, and it's easy to get into the swing of things here. However, you may not want to stay for a long holiday, as there is not much to do.

We like the idea of the 'Resort' and 'Easy' sub-brands. It makes it easier to find the type of camping you are looking for. Of course, it's also a question of price. You'd expect an Easy campsite to be a more affordable alternative. So, what about that?

Prices at First Camp campsites vary, so it is difficult to say exact prices. When we visited First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge (July 2024), the price was around 350 SEK/day. During the same period, First Camp Orsa - Dalarna (which is a "Resort") cost around 700-800 SEK/day. So there is a clear price difference, and the Easy brand can serve as a handy guide to find a simpler camping overnight stay at a lower price.

More to see and do in the neighbourhood

While staying at First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge, you can take the opportunity to visit other nice places in and around Borlänge such as the Aqua Nova indoor swimming pool, Gammelgården community centre, Sahlins Ostrich, Skedvi Bread and Östra Silvberg Mine. You can also go to Falun, where you will find, among other things, the famous sights Falu mine and The Carl Larsson farm.
