First Camp Orsa - Dalarna - a "First Camp Resort"

New this year, the First Camp camping chain has introduced the two sub-brands "Resort" and "Easy". So what does this mean? We have now tested the First Camp Orsa - Dalarna campsite, which is beautifully located by Lake Orsa, and which is a "First Camp Resort".

First Camp Orsa - Dalarna

First Camp Orsa - Dalarna is thus one of the campsites included in the new "sub-brand" First Camp Resort. We took a day to experience some camping luxury, and find out what "First Camp Resort" really means.

First Camp Orsa - Dalarna is located right next to Lake Orsa, at the resort of Orsa in Dalarna.

First Camp Resort and First Camp Easy

New this year at First Camp are the new sub-brands First Camp Resort and First Camp Easy. The first brand refers to "summer holidays with extra everything" while the second refers to "the simple camping life".

First Camp Resort - summer holidays with extra everything

First Camp Resort is described as "the perfect choice for those who prefer that little bit extra on their summer holiday and want to go all out on facilities and activities". At a campsite with this brand, that's to be expected:

• Activity programmes for the whole family
• Kids club with Yessi
• Shop and bistro/restaurant
• Proximity to swimming pool and beach
• Bouncy castle and several playgrounds
• Adventure golf or mini golf

First Camp Easy - the simple camping life

First Camp Easy is described as "the perfect choice for those who prefer to enjoy the sweetness of camping life in all its simplicity, without extra frills and activities". At a campsite with this brand, you can expect:

• Smaller campsites with simpler standards
• Self-catering with fewer or no facilities such as shop/bistro
• Small playground, e.g. swing or sandpit
• Emptying stations on site
• Relaxed atmosphere
• Easy check-in and check-out

Visiting First Camp Orsa - Dalarna - a "First Camp Resort"

You can come to First Camp Orsa - Dalarna with your own camping vehicle (or tent), or stay in a cabin or glamping tent.

We visited First Camp Orsa - Dalarna with our campervan and got a nice spot on grass, near the water.

For those not travelling with their own camper van, there are a variety of cabins to choose from, both large and small, including themed cabins popular with children: Yessis cottages and Zumzumtorp.

There are also nice glamping tents, which are scenically located near the water.

Services at First Camp Orsa - Dalarna

Given that First Camp Orsa - Dalarna is a "First Camp Resort", you can of course expect a high standard of service. All year round there are all important services in the form of electricity, water, service house, washing machine, waste station and emptying station. There is also supposed to be WiFi in "limited parts of the area", and for our part, WiFi worked all the time.

During the summer season there is also a shop and restaurant. Brasserie Udden is on the shores of Lake Orsa, with fantastic views of the water from the outdoor terrace. We didn't eat here, but the menu includes pizza and à la carte dishes, and during the summer weeks there are shows and music with local artists. There is also a bistro, just next to the reception.

Sun and swimming at First Camp Orsa - Dalarna ...

Many people come to First Camp Orsa - Dalarna for sun and swimming. Orsa is sometimes called "Dalarna's Riviera" and offers a kilometre-long and beautiful sandy beach.

We took the opportunity to take a dip and can attest that it is just as shallow here as people say.

And it's not just people who can swim - there's also a beach where dogs can cool off.

In addition, there is a heated pool area with a pirate ship, children's pool and water slide. Here we mostly went in to look, and what we experienced as positive was that it did not cost extra. You just had to wave the key to the electrical cabinet and you were let in.

More activities at First Camp Orsa - Dalarna

As First Camp Orsa - Dalarna is a First Camp Resort, you can of course expect more activities. For children there are, among other things, popular Yessiland, where children can have fun while parents challenge each other in adventure golf or relax in the bistro, located in the same building.

The campsite also offers outdoor adventure golf, as well as bike, canoe and pedalo hire. During the busiest weeks of the summer, you can also take part in an intensive programme of activities, including a kids' club, training and entertainment.

So, what did we think of the campsite and of "First Camp Resort"?

First Camp Orsa - Dalarna is a scenic and super nice campsite, with a lovely beach and lots of activities. We understand that many people, not least families with children, come here for their summer holidays.

We must also say that we like the concept of Resort and Easy a lot. This is a good guide to finding what you're looking for. If it's labelled "Resort" - well, you know you'll get a pool and activity programme. If you want something much simpler and quieter - you can look for a campsite labelled "Easy" instead.

What might it be like at one of First Camp's Easy campsites? We don't know for sure yet, but we plan to find out!

More to see and do in the neighbourhood

So, what can you see and do near First Camp Orsa - Dalarna? In the actual Orsa you will find a market hall and a coffee shop. Just north of Orsa you can go to Storstupet and Helvetesfallet, which are well worth a visit. You can also go to Mora and Nusnäs, with its Dala horse production, and to the fairytale land of Tomteland.
