Legoland Castle Hotel in Billund - the children's dream hotel

Guest writer: Lina Sjölund Gröndahl

Near LEGOLAND® towers an enchanted and fantastically beautiful castle. It is probably the coolest hotel in the Nordic region for families with children. The King and Queen of LEGOLAND® live here, and you can become their guest.

There are 142 adventurous rooms and you can choose where you want to stay. Either in the princess's royal chambers, in the knight's cool living room or in the wizard's magical observatory? Whatever you choose, you'll be the guest of honour of the adventure.

I, a new guest writer at FREEDOMtravel, who usually blogs at LinizTravel, has recently been here. I travelled with my eight-year-old son and this was truly his dream holiday. The stay at Legoland Castle was almost like jumping into a really exciting Lego castle.

Travelling to Legoland and staying at Legoland Castle Hotel is probably the dream of most children. If you have a child who loves building with Lego, it's a dream come true to go to both Legoland and stay at this cool hotel.

Everything is built up so real and cool. And if you haven't been there yet with your kids, I highly recommend it.

Of course, it costs a penny, but it's worth it and really creates memories for life. My son wondered as soon as we got home, mum when can we go back to Legoland and the Legoland Castle Hotel, because we really had such cosy days together just the two of us.

Travelling here with children of all ages is a great idea, as Legoland is built with both Lego Duplo and Lego. There are also adventurous rides to suit both young and old.

Dragon knight room

We had booked the dragon knight room. Here you could stay in the dragon knight's cool living room and help the king in the fight for the treasure. We slept among fire-breathing dragons, brave heroes and rattling swords and woke up as real knights of LEGOLAND® Castle Hotel.

At least that was the feeling you got. The rooms were so cool. In the room there is a special sleeping area for adults with a double bed and a corner room for the children with a bunk bed and actually room for three children.

My son immediately sat down and built his new Lego. The room was extremely smart and well planned with a fresh toilet with shower, wardrobe and two TVs.

In the room there was of course also a Lego box with lots of Lego to play with. In the safe in the room, there was a Lego that you could take home. First you had to solve some riddles to find the code, so you could unlock the secret safe and in there was a fun Lego.

Almost everywhere you went you could build with Lego. In the Lobby there were several different places to sit down and build with Lego and there were figures here and there that were built in Lego too of course. It was almost like living in a sea of Lego.

Knights Tavern Restaurant

Both evenings we were at Legoland we had dinner in the Knights Tavern restaurant at the hotel. Here, of course, there was also a small playroom where you could build with both giant Lego and regular Lego. Something that was very popular was to build flags from different countries. My son of course built the Swedish flag, but also learnt about what other countries' flags look like.

Knight's Hall

At Knights' Tavern Restaurant, you build your own meal. Here you can eat as much as you want for 2 hours and keep an eye on the head chefs grilling your food over a real fire in the open kitchen.

Here you can enjoy a real knight's buffet, consisting of everything from delicious salads and tasty fish dishes to delicious pizzas and a wide range of tender and juicy meat!

A selection of popular children's dishes is served to the company's youngest knights and princesses. Finish off the party with cakes from their own bakery and all the soft ice cream you can eat.

The price also includes a large drinks buffet with a choice of 3 white wines, 3 red wines, 1 rosé, 1 dessert wine, 5 different beers, ice water and organic coffee & tea. Soda, juice and milk are also included.

Dinner is of course enjoyed in the Knights' Hall. You really get the feeling of a real knight's hall.

The kitchen is open from 17.30 to 20.00/21.00 on all days when the LEGOLAND® park is open.

Prices:

  • 199 DKK for children 3-12 years.
  • 299 DKK for teenagers aged 13-17.
  • 449 DKK for adults.

It's so much nicer to be able to get wine in a bottle when eating a buffet, than wine taps. So a big plus on that.

After dinner we went out on the back terrace and enjoyed the evening sun. The son played in the playground and I sat in the sun and just enjoyed. If it's a holiday, it's a holiday.

Playground at the back

They had a playground right near the terrace, where you could have both your dinner and breakfast if you wanted.

Breakfast buffet

The kingdom was buzzing with anticipation and wonder at the royal banquet to be held at the hotel's own Knights Tavern Restaurant. This is also where the delicious buffet breakfast was served, open daily from 07.00 - 10.00.

Billund - an adventure land for families with children

Billund has become an adventure land for families with children. Within walking distance are both LEGOLANDLEGO House and Lalandia, and just a stone's throw away is the new WOW Park. But Legoland Castle Hotel is really something special. It is also home to Denmark's second largest airport, Billund Airport.

Travel to Legoland Castle Hotel

We flew with SAS direct flight from Arlanda to Billund. Then we walked about 30 minutes from the airport to the hotel, which is right next to Legoland Billund.
