We have lots of new furnishings in the campervan - from felt mats on the walls to various clever storage solutions. For several months we've been working on fixing up the motorhome, and now it's time to show!

New interior in the motorhome
We've had our motorhome for a long time, over fifteen years, and it's not time for us to replace it. We might as well fix it up the way we want it! Peter loves to play with design, and since the motorhome is both our home and our workplace for long periods, practical solutions are also important to us.
We have been working on the interior of the motorhome since we picked it up from the winter storage this spring - both when we were at home and when we were travelling. Now we've finished a lot, it's time to show everything we've done!
New windows in the motorhome
One of the most necessary things we fixed in the motorhome this year is that we put in four new windows. These were simply out of order in various ways - very scratchy or impossible to open. One sunroof shattered into a thousand pieces when Peter went to gently clean it with a cloth ...
We ordered the windows from Campingvaruhuset and Peter changed them on his own, sometimes with a little assistance from me (Helena).
Wallpapering with felt carpet
The biggest project Peter started in the spring was to wallpaper the entire interior of the motorhome with a felt carpet. The walls and ceilings were worn, and we needed a more cosy feeling. No sooner said than done! Peter measured the walls and ceiling and ordered rolls of felt carpet online.
We can admit that it was a lot of work. Each piece had to be measured and then cavities had to be cut out for windows, electrical sockets and lights. We glued up one piece at a time, one piece every day for many days...
The ceiling was particularly tricky to install, but Peter found a way to first screw the carpet up with short screws, before gluing it piece by piece. It took a couple of weeks, but it was finally done!
Now we have a mix of dark red, light grey and wood inside the motorhome. The sheets with motorhomes are of course from our online shop.
Texts on the cabinets
Peter loves design and is constantly getting all sorts of ideas. Sometimes I (Helena) say no, but if I don't say no, things happen... usually before I know it. "Wouldn't it be fun with the word freedom in different languages, on the cupboards?", wondered Peter.
"Maybe" I muttered, without thinking much more about it. Two days later, the texts were ready to be picked up at the nearest delivery point... Wonder what it says? It says freedom. The only thing to consider is the language in which it is written.
New film on the fridge
While we were at it, Peter thought we could change the colour of the fridge. Why not black? He bought a black film, with a bit of texture, at Bauhaus and stuck it on. And just like that, we had a black fridge!
New colour for the door
"Isn't a white door a bit boring?" Peter suddenly thought one day. I hadn't thought about that ...
He sprayed the door grey. Then he changed his mind. The next day it was black.
New curtains
We had brown curtains in front of the beds (that we sewed in 2009Time to renew! Now we wanted a lighter colour. We bought long light-coloured drapes at Ikea, which we cut into smaller pieces and hemmed with edging tape.
New shelves and hooks in the kitchen
The kitchen in the campervan is important to Peter, and he has spent a lot of time and energy thinking about how to improve it and make it more user-friendly. He ended up with a hanger with hooks from Ikea, a small shelf for washing-up sponges (also from Ikea, but Peter had to start from a larger shelf that he sawed up) and a holder for his mobile phone, from Biltema. He wants to keep his mobile phone in front of him in the kitchen so he can look at recipes and other things.
There was also a small knife magnet from the online store Temu and a rack for washing-up liquid and a dish brush. Yes, here Peter was at it again, sawing up a slightly larger product from Ikea ...
Peter has also long wanted a small "relief shelf" in the space between the kitchen and the seating area. In the end, he found a photo shelf at Biltema, and it turned out really well! This is where he usually puts things while he cooks.
We also took the opportunity to fix a little inside the kitchen cabinets, with new black storage boxes from Ikea, and stickers so that you can find a little easier ...
New storage in the bathroom
Did the bathroom escape a makeover? Not then! We found a soap dispenser and a "storage box" at Clas Ohlson, which we attached with silicone. In the box we store toothbrushes, toothpaste and the like.
Peter also fixed two black mouldings, from Bauhaus, which he attached in front of the open shelves between the bathroom cabinets. That way we can have things lying there, even when we are driving.
By the way, last year we demolished the shower and built a wardrobe with drawers instead. You can still wash in the bathroom. We shower at caravan parks and campsites.
New storage around the motorhome
We have invested a lot in shelves and storage in the motorhome. The same photo shelf we put up in the kitchen we put up between the "extra sofa" and the window. Now you can put things there, such as mittens, mobile phone, keys ...
We have also acquired a few different forms of fabric wall storage. The light coloured one is from Ikea, and the black one we ordered online from Temu. We've also put up fly swatter hooks, both inside the door and in the "bedroom".
New electrical outlets
There are also more power sockets! We now have two large power sockets by the dining table, which we usually hide behind the curtain. One works when we are connected to electricity. The other works when we fricampar and use the inverter, which converts 12 volts to 220.
We have also installed some extra power sockets in the bedroom, so that you can easily charge your mobile phone there.
New in the kitchen cupboards
Not only has there been new furnishings in the motorhome, but also some new kitchen cabinets! We have been looking for new "porcelain" (or melamine rather) for a long time and finally found a small residual stock that was sold out at the restaurant wholesaler Martin & Servera. It wasn't exactly cheap, but we love these plates and bowls!
We found new coffee mugs at ICA Maxi. Nice and affordable! There are plates and bowls in melamine there too, but we had already acquired that ...
New furnishings in the motorhome ... will there be more?
We are delighted with all the new furnishings in the motorhome! Will there be more? Yes, there are still a few things on the wish list ... Unfortunately, our living room batteries discharge quickly, even though they are new. Maybe they were destroyed when the generator broke down? Lithium batteries and solar cells would be nice... Hopefully we can organise that in the future, so we can free camp more!
Solan says:
Very interesting to check out! I'm stuck on photo shelves from Biltema. Good format, I'll take that tip right away ...
Felt up the walls, I think of older American motorhomes. But Peter, you master chef, doesn't the felt absorb cooking odours or do you have a super-efficient fan?
Fun with dramatic colouring...
We have solar cells and lithium batteries for a few years, expensive, but probably the best investment we made on the 12-year-old motorhome. Freedom for us is to be independent of electricity poles! 😉

The photo shelves work super well! Great to be able to put stuff there, areas that we have not used before!
Well, we've probably never been so worried about carpet. We'll have to air it out, and if it becomes a problem, we'll just have to use fabric cleaner (we've used it a lot for different things before too).
Glad to hear you are happy with the lithium batteries! We would also like to be more independent of electricity. It's the price that makes us hesitate, but we'll look into it!

How wonderful to get good solutions. Understand that you are satisfied. Fix and tricks with the motorhome are very fun. Just thinking about how it can be better, finding the solution and feeling satisfied and happy is wonderful. We fixed a little before we left in May. We were very happy with that. But we have a cupboard that we just have to get right. Maybe we have a solution. We'd better think about it some more.

Helena says:
Isn't that fun! Hope you find a solution for your cupboard! 🙂

How nice it has become. Nice that you take care of your "old" car instead of buying a new one every two years, as many do (let's say that we have had three cars in ten years, but now we are happy, at least I am).

Helena says:
Thank you very much! We do the best we can. It's going to be around for a while, so might as well spruce it up and fix it 😉

Peter is fantastic!!! What a handy guy:-) So professional! Now you are equipped to receive your friends from South Africa. And the new melamine set is sooooo nice:-)

So much work you put in! And the result was so nice. I also thought about this with felt on the walls and matting. On the other hand, open windows and a good fan can help a lot.
I understand that you want to organise it so that free camping is more possible. Does not feel directly so lul with campsites where one stands so close. Is now on Southern Gotland and here there are many who free camp. And one night the sheep can stand. However, saw some car parks that were fairly full. No hit.
Wishing you all the best - have a good time.
PS The crockery is great and why shouldn't you spend money when you can...

Helena says:
Glad you like it Ditte! A lot of work, but now we will enjoy it more! 🙂 Yes, fricamping is wonderful. As it is now, we can free camp for a maximum of two nights in a row, and then we have a little hard to get the electricity to last ... Hope you have a good time on Gotland! (Understand that it can be crowded among the motorhomes there, Gotland is popular ...)

Same as BP, so talented and inventive Peter is, yes you too of course but seems that it is Peter who is really a real fixer professional. I like that a lot, see opportunities and do. And always finish what I started and get so satisfied and happy.
I love that you have done so much, well everything and you explain so well step by step. I like freedom in different languages. Nice one!
And those special solutions with mini shelves and other things are great. And it's great to visit Biltema, Clas, Byggmax, Bauhaus and all that. And I have felt the mugs at Ica Maxi, liked the patterns but only have porcelain even in the cottage and in the picnic basket with so put them back. And I have enough porcelain so it will be over, haha.
Just got home from our cottage country and there I got an idea that turned out great while the husband before said: what do you need that for? 😄
Good luck with further trips and visits, I think they will be impressed and so fun that you have managed everything. Then it's just fun with a little "small pick" to add as needed or as you discover.
Yes, by the way, the ceiling, I thought it seemed very complicated and wonder how he got there even if screws and glue came in handy😉. Black door turned out nicely and light coloured drapes too. Have it continued so well now.

Yes, Peter's a real fixer, and the ideas are sometimes sparkling ... (I, Helena, even have to pull the brake sometimes, haha.)
And thank you! We've now spent two days looking around Stockholm with our South African friends (they said they were impressed with how beautiful it is and all the water!) and soon it will be time to go on a motorhome trip together. It will be interesting to see how they experience Sweden!
