We are travelling around Sweden by campervan, together with our South African friends Henri and Michelle. Most of the places we visit we've seen before, but when travelling with foreign guests you see everything with new eyes.

Seeing Sweden with new eyes
It is interesting to travel in your own country, together with friends from another country, especially one as exotic as South Africa. Hearing their reactions gives us the chance to reflect on what we see, in a slightly different way.
So what do they think? Well, they find Sweden incredibly beautiful, picturesque, clean, well-organised and safe. They also react to the fact that there is so much water and so many boats. We're planning to write a whole feature on their reflections, so keep an eye out for that!
We haven't done much photography with our own drone, but Michelle has had hers up in the air more often. She bought hers - the exact same model as Peter's - after we got to know each other in Philippines last year, when Peter showed his. Great pictures have been made, which we also show, both here and on Instagram.
The West Coast, with ice cream and seafood delights
Lately, we have been travelling along the west coast, which we have told you about in our report From Varberg to Hunnebostrand in a motorhome. We visited many favourite places, which we now got to experience again in a new way. We also took the opportunity to enjoy both seafood and ice cream!
By the way, you haven't missed our report on the best ice cream in Sweden?
Travelling together
So, what is it like travelling together, this tight, four people in a motorhome? We have to say that it goes very well! It's obviously cramped and there are of course challenges, but we still think it's going beyond expectations. All four of us are pretty good at giving each other time and space.
Peter and I have to work sometimes. Henri has phone meetings from time to time, and Michelle trains every day, as she will soon be competing in Gothenburg, in the World Masters Athletics Gothenburg Championchips 2024. Impressive, isn't it? The competition brings together 8,035 athletes from 111 countries around the world.
Since we are four adults in a motorhome, we have also chosen to stay every night at either a campsite or a caravan park with electricity, toilets and showers. It makes it easier not to have to crowd too much in the small spaces of the motorhome. It's not particularly expensive either, as there are always four of us sharing the price of a camping or caravan site.
Destination of the Year - don't forget to vote!
We must also remind you that you can vote for your favourite Swedish destination ahead of the awards ceremony at the Elmia fair! Which destination in Sweden will be the "Destination Sweden of the Year 2024" for motorhome travellers and other campers? The award will be presented at Elmia Husvagn Husbil and five destinations are nominated:
- High coast
- Karlskrona
- Mariestad
- Lysekil
- Helsingborg
Which place do you think should win? Vote here (on the Elmia website)! You can vote until 20 August.
Best this week
Best this week? Our wonderful trip on the west coast of course, together with our amazing friends Henri and Michelle! To think that we met on a boat trip in the Philippines, and that it then led to first a South Africa trip together and then a Sweden trip together. Amazing what meeting on a trip can do!
Your turn... what has been the best part of your week? Note! It doesn't have to be big things. The idea is to highlight and focus on the positives, however small they may be.
The week ahead
We are not home yet, but the journey in Sweden continues. We have left the west coast and are now slowly winding our way back towards Stockholm, but this time slightly higher up the country, so that it all becomes a round trip.
Here on FREEDOMtravel you can expect reports from our trip, mixed with guest reports, travel news and more. Hope you'll join us!

Of course, it's great fun to show Sweden to foreign friends. Have only positive experiences of this. But not in a motorhome. Sweden is really amazing and in so many different ways
Best here is our trip to Narvik in Norway. Easy to fly, Stockholm-Oslo- Harstad and then conveniently by airport bus to Narvik. And happily, the bus stopped outside our hotel. For us it is partly a historical journey but the Norwegian nature is so fascinating. From here we take the train to Luleå and pass the Riksgränsen, Abisko and many other nice places. Then after a couple of days in Luleå we fly home to Stockholm. So next week will be good too.
Wishing you continued good days.

Nice to read about your trip and that you experience so many nice things in beautiful Sweden. We have been in Södermanland and have very nice summer weather, sometimes too hot in the sun. And nice baths and wonderful nature when you come a little south from Stockholm. And so many beautiful castles and mansions to visit and kind of "the shop in the countryside" that nobles run and are so incredibly nice and live so beautifully for several generations. Is so unexpectedly much.
And, as if on cue, rain showers sprinkle over nature in the evening or night and in the morning the sun shines again. Yes, everything is the best but I laugh a little extra when I see all sorts of signs people put at their garden entrances, for example, "drive slowly, playing pensioners", or "drive carefully, wild pensioners and domestic animals" and then pictures of it all. Some examples, there are more😄.
And farm cafés with many rooms in the garden and home-baked and home-made ice cream are not bad either.
And some wild animals also show up where we are, one day both hares, squirrels and deer family. No wolf as luck would have it.
Wishing you a continued good journey.
