We have now presented the awards for Destination of the Year 2024 - Europe and Sweden - at Elmia Husvagn Husbil 2024. As usual, it is a special feeling to be at the Elmia fair, and to present the awards. This year, with readers and visitors voting, it was perhaps even more fun than ever!

On site at Elmia Caravan Motorhome
We've been at Elmia Husvagn Husbil all week, and being here is like nothing else. It's a bit hard to explain, but maybe it's the same for others in the industry.
You work on your own for much of the year, and then suddenly you meet - motorhome sellers, campsite owners, destination managers, bloggers, journalists, motorhome travellers, campers and all sorts of others. It's quite simply very, very funny to meet everyone!
And of course, it's been busy with stands, lectures, checking out vehicles in the halls, and everything else going on.
"Destination of the Year"
"Destination of the Year" is an annual prize awarded by the travel magazine FREEDOMtravel to wonderful destinations for those travelling with a motorhome or other camping vehicle. The criteria for the award are:
- Good range of pitches and/or campsites
- You feel welcome with a campervan

- Preferably a destination that can be visited throughout much of the year.
Previous winners of "Destination of the Year Sweden" are Glasriket and Kosta (2022) and Gränna (2023). Previous winners of "Destination of the Year Europe" are Děčín in the Czech Republic (2023).
European Destination of the Year 2024: Miltenberg, Germany
On Friday afternoon, 13 September, it was time for us to award the prize for "Destination Europe of the Year 2023". This year, the Swedish prize went to ... drum roll ... Miltenberg, Germany!
This historic and charming little town is located in Bavaria, on the banks of the Main River, along the holiday route known as the 'Way of the Cross'. We highly recommend travelling here!
For offering a wonderful destination for motorhome travellers. In Miltenberg you can enjoy a beautiful scenery and a lovely town, as well as taking boat tours and visit historical places. A central campsite is nicely located close to the river, and as an
alternatively there are also many overnight car parks for campers.
The German destination Miltenberg was not able to attend the award ceremony, but instead we received a text from Iris Müller, from the German Tourist Office, thanking us for the award.
Destination Sweden 2024: High Coast
On Saturday afternoon 14 September, it was time for us to award the prize for "Destination Sweden of the Year 2024". A novelty this year was that we at FREEDOMtravel nominated five destinations - and that readers and fair visitors then got to vote on Elmia's website. The nominated destinations were Höga kusten, Karlskrona, Lysekil, Mariestad and Helsingborg.
After voting, the Swedish prize went to ... drum roll ... High coast! This beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site has a lot to offer and we highly recommend a visit here.
To offer a great destination for motorhome travellers. The High Coast offers dramatically beautiful scenery with mountains and islands, but also exciting cultural experiences. Motorhome travellers feel welcome, and there are plenty of great pitches and campsites.
Representatives of the High Coast had made a film thanking us for the award, which we played on stage. In addition, Johan Persson, from Långsele Camping in the High Coast, was on hand to receive the award.
We say a big CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to two well-deserved winners of "Destination Europe 2024" and "Destination Sweden 2024"!
