Great campsites in Sweden

In this list, we present some great campsites in Sweden, which we visited in 2024. We are far from always camping, but alternate with pitches and free camping.

When we choose camping, it's often because we need extra services (such as a washing machine), we want to relax for a few days in a scenic setting, or the best option in a particular location happens to be a campsite. This year, we also chose camping extra often because for 2.5 weeks we travelled four adults in a motorhome - then it is nice to have more service on site, while we were four who shared the cost.

So, how do you judge what are "nice campsites in Sweden"? Well, it's a matter of taste of course. We appreciate scenic campsites with beautiful views, preferably with a slightly relaxed atmosphere. It's a plus if the service is good and if there is something nice to experience nearby. Here are ten great campsites in Sweden, which we visited this year, and which we liked. In no particular order.

1. Stenö havsbad & camping in Söderhamn (Hälsingland)

Stenö Havsbad & Camping is a scenic campsite on the coast in Söderhamn, where we enjoyed the peace and quiet and the beautiful nature. During the high season it is probably a little more intense here with more visitors and activities such as adventure golf, canoeing and kids club.

This year-round-open campsite felt genuine somehow, and it is also relatively close to visit Söderhamn with cafés, an aviation museum and picturesque Skärså. We loved it here!

2. Sandvik campsite on Lake Roxen (Östergötland)

Sandvik Camping is a Caravan Club campsite located on Lake Roxen, not far from Berg's locks. This is a fairly simple campsite without a lot of extras. It's all about camping in a relaxed environment, and maybe swimming.

We like this campsite because it's in a scenic lakeside location and the prices are reasonable. The campsite is also well located for visiting various attractions, such as Vreta Monastery.

3. First Camp Orsa - Dalarna (Dalarna)

First Camp Orsa - Dalarna also became a favourite during this summer's trip. This is a so-called "First Camp Resort", which means that there is a little more of everything, such as shop, restaurant, pool, adventure golf, kids club and more. We rarely use a pool, but we remember what it was like when we travelled with children, and we liked that the pool area here is included in the camping price.

We personally enjoyed this campsite because it is very scenic, with nice beaches, and we actually went swimming! The campsite is also in a great location for visiting beautiful Orsa, with cafés and places to visit such as the Great Divide and Hell's Fall.

4. Läckö Slott campsite in Lidköping (Västergötland)

Läckö Slott camping was a positive surprise for us. When booking, you have to specify the length of the vehicle, and that's not so strange, because all the pitches are irregular spaces among the trees in a dense forest. Quite incredibly cosy actually!

We enjoyed our stay here very much, and our South African friends appreciated the "forest experience". In addition, it is a short walk from the campsite to Läckö Castle, which is both beautiful and interesting to visit.

5. Siviks camping in Lysekil (Bohuslän)

If we were to rank the best campsites of the summer, Siviks camping would probably be number 1. Wow, how beautiful it is here! This wasn't the cheapest campsite (and we paid a little extra to get the 'front pitch') but we definitely thought it was worth spending two nights here.

We liked the campsite because the views are magical, not least of the sunset. In addition, there was entertainment, with live artists, at the restaurant in the evenings. Nice! And you can take the opportunity to visit the lovely Lysekil and Stångehuvud nature reserve.

6. Destination Apelviken in Varberg (Halland)

We're including Destination Apelviken, in Varberg, on the list because this campsite has a great location and excellent service. However, to be honest, our experience was a bit mixed. This was the most expensive campsite we visited during the whole season, and the pitch we got was pretty bad - furthest from the sea, with no shelter from the wind, with disturbing train noise.

So what's good about it? Well, there's a wide range of food, activities and programmes. There's a swimming pool and sea baths, and you can walk along the beautiful coastline to Varberg. If you don't want to walk, there is a small tourist train.

7. Järvsö camping (Hälsingland)

Järvsö Camping is a slightly smaller campsite that has an extremely good location, right in the centre of Järvsö. The campsite thus serves as an excellent starting point for exploring fine Järvsö, with restaurants, shops, Stenegård, Lill-Babs museum, Vildriket and various nature experiences.

The campsite itself is relatively simple, but it is green and nice, there are all the services you need and the staff are friendly and helpful. What more do you really need?

8. Ramsvik holiday village & camping (Bohuslän)

Ramsvik Stugby & Camping is located on the incredibly beautiful Ramsvik country, on the west coast. It may be mainly cottages, but you can also camp here with your own caravan. There is a restaurant, ice-cream parlour and various activities, such as boat and canoe hire.

What we especially liked here is the beautiful nature. We have hiked on Ramsvikslandet before as well, but then left the area after the hike. Staying one night at this nice campsite was a nice option.

9. First Camp Ånnaboda - Örebro (Närke)

First Camp Ånnaboda - Örebro is located in Garphyttan, just outside Örebro, and is a perfect camping option for those who enjoy nature. In winter, cross-country skiing is apparently popular here. In summer, you can swim in the beautiful Ånnabo lake.

We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the nature in the surroundings, including a walk around the lake. We also appreciated the very nice service houses. For us, the campsite was ideal for discovering the next day Örebro, including the castle and Wadköping.

10. Tällberg campsite at Siljan (Dalarna)

Tällbergs Camping, in the municipality of Leksand, is beautifully situated on the banks of Lake Siljan. This is a slightly simpler campsite, in the lower price segment. However, we thought that you get a lot for your money. In addition to the usual camping service, you are also offered a magical view, as well as a nice beach and bathing jetty.

We found this to be a perfect place to stay during our campervan trip around Lake Siljan. In the neighbourhood you can visit both nice Leksand and popular Rättvik, two places with a lot to offer.
