Strong positive figures indicate a turnaround for the motorhome and caravan industry

This year's edition of Elmia Husvagn Husbil gives clear signals that a turnaround is underway in the caravan and motorhome industry. A total of 34,100 visitors attended the fair, which is an increase of 10 per cent compared to last year. "The great interest in the fair is obviously very pleasing. We had close to 10,000 people staying at the fair campsite this year and it's been many years since we've had this kind of booking pressure," says Klas Brandt, who is responsible for the fair.

Destination of the Year 2024 presented at Elmia Caravan Motorhome

The "Destination of the Year Europe 2024" and "Destination of the Year Sweden 2024" awards were presented on the Destination Stage during the Elmia Husvagn Husbil trade fair, 11-15 September in Jönköping. The award was established by the travel magazine FREEDOMtravel, and aims to highlight destinations that offer unique experiences, where motorhome travellers feel welcome. A novelty this year was that you could vote for five nominated Swedish destinations, in order to select the Swedish winner destination. You can read more about the prize and the award ceremony here.

Where to get the most hours of sunshine for your money this autumn

Summer may be coming to an end in Sweden, but in many other parts of the world you can still get sun and sea. But where should you go to get the most sun for your money? Sambla has done the maths, taking the 50 most popular tourist countries in the world, and calculating hotel and flight prices and average hours of sunshine. The survey shows that Poland gives the most sun for your money, closely followed by Turkey.

Liseberg launches child-friendly "horror attraction"

On 4 October, this year's Halloween season opens at Liseberg, where everything is exactly the same, but nothing is the same. The amusement park changes shape and visitors are greeted by cuddles, scarecrows, a candy mystery and as many as 30,000 pumpkins. This year also sees the launch of two exciting new attractions, an interactive experience in the form of The sago forest for the younger children and Night black on the Ghost for the more adventurous.

Odd things people have forgotten in hotels

Hotels.com presents its annual Hotel Room Insights report, which tells us, among other things, about astonishing items left behind and the most unusual room service orders. Some forgotten items:

  • The most expensive: A Rolex, a Birkin bag and a watch worth SEK 65 million.
  • Pets: A chicken and a lizard.
  • Only the essentials: Two complete full leg casts and enough false teeth to supply an entire hotel.
  • The inexplicable: A rice cooker, a car tyre, a mixer and construction pipes.

And some strange room service orders:

  • A bathtub filled with Evian water for a child to bathe in
  • A tailor-made allergy menu for pets
  • A burnt toast
  • A hot dog with caviar
  • Fresh goat milk
  • Two kilos of bananas
  • A high-five from a staff member to ensure that their room service order was read.

Reflection of the week

It was great that Elmia Husvagn Husbil attracted so many visitors this year! It felt like there were a lot of people, and the atmosphere was wonderfully energising. What we reflected on was that many people wanted to talk to us about travelling in Europe with the motorhome or caravan. Visitors talked to us about many different destinations such as Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Albania, Germany and Poland.
