Karpathos beaches - the most beautiful according to us

Here we list the most beautiful beaches on Karpathos, in our opinion. Of course, there may be even more gems of beaches on the island, which we didn't have time to discover, but we found a whole bunch that were amazing.

Are Karpathos beaches sandy or pebble? The answer to that question is that most beaches are pebble beaches, but there are also classic sandy beaches. Above all, there are incredibly beautiful beaches!

Karpathos stränder

1. Achata Beach

Achata Beach is a beautiful little beach located on the east coast, just north of the main town of Pigadia. You have to drive along a very winding road to get down to the beach, but it's well worth it. Once there, you'll find a charming little beach with a pebble beach, parasols and a small restaurant with a simple selection of salads and sandwiches. There is also a cave to discover from the water. A relaxed little paradise!

2. Kira Panagia

Kira Panagia is a beach located a little further north of Achata. Here, too, you can expect winding roads, and even here it is well worth it. In addition, it offers driving on Karpathos an experience in itself! A few houses, restaurants and shops are located just before the beach, with coarse-grained sand, sunbeds and parasols are available for hire.

3. Apela Beach

If you continue even further north, you'll reach Apela (sometimes spelled Apella) Beach. This gravel beach is located in an incredibly beautiful bay. There are some sunbeds with parasols, but also a large "free" part of the beach. On the way down there is a tavern where you can eat or have a drink. On the hill, on the way to the beach, there is also the old stone church of Saint Lucas, which is more or less carved out of the rock.

4. Agios Nicholaos, Spoa

Agios Nicholaos is located on Spoa, relatively far north on the east coast. It has a cosy and relaxed beach with sun loungers. What enhanced the impression was the fantastic restaurant To Votsalo. Run by the warm and lovely couple Pavlos and Popi, it serves fresh fish and seafood straight from the sea outside, as well as other Greek specialities such as Greek salad, fava beans and wine loaves.

5. Palatia Bay, Saria Island

If you make a boat trip to Saria Island, which is located in the far north, you can experience some truly amazing beaches. At Palatia Bay, you can sunbathe and swim on a fine shingle beach, but also snorkel into fascinating caves. There are also some interesting historical remains here, including the ruins of a pirate village. There are no sun loungers or restaurants here, just beautiful views, wild birds and maybe the odd goat.

6. Alimounta Beach, Saria Island

If you continue a little further north on the island of Saria, you will reach Alimounta Beach. This is another beautiful pebble beach where you can sunbathe, swim and snorkel. The water is shimmering green and crystal clear, and the surrounding cliffs and mountains offer beautiful views. It's completely uninhabited, so you'll need to bring or buy everything you need on board the boat.

7. Lefkos Beach

Lefkos is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island of Karpathos, and it's not hard to see why. There are several beautiful beaches and a wide range of cosy restaurants. Lefkos Beach is the "innermost" of the beaches, where most tourists hang out. Here you have protection from the wind and there are plenty of sun loungers to rent. You can also enjoy a lovely sandy beach.

8. Frangolimiona Beach, Lefkos

In Lefkos, as we said, there is more than one beach, which means that you can choose according to your preferences and wishes. At the far end is Frangilimiona Beach, and between it and Lefkos Beach is another beach, which we are not sure of the name. These outer beaches offer more beautiful views and much more privacy, but also more wind and bigger waves. So there is something for everyone!

9. finiki

Finiki is a small fishing village, located relatively far south on the western side of Karpathos. The village may not offer the most beautiful beach on the island, but on the other hand it is incredibly cosy here, so the resort still fits on the list. The bay is framed by mighty mountains, and down by the beach are several cosy tavernas.

10. Teodoros Beach

Agios Teodoros Beach is located at the south-western end of Karpathos Island. There is an incredibly beautiful beach surrounded by beautiful cliffs. At the top, where there is also a taverna, it was windy, but when you get down to the beach it becomes sheltered. There is a really nice sandy beach and some sun loungers. We settled down on our towels directly in the sand, and enjoyed a picnic with bread, cheese, salami and tomatoes. A very cosy place!

11. diacophtis

Diakoftis beach is very close to Karpathos airport. This is a somewhat "hidden" place, with no restaurants or shops. When we arrived, some cars were parked above the bays, and from there you could find your way down to "your own" little corner of this incredibly beautiful strip of beach. Since there were so few tourists here, several took the opportunity to sunbathe and swim without clothes.

12. Damatria Beach

Damatria Beach is located on the south-western part of Karpathos. This is a slightly secluded and very quiet beach with some sun loungers, but without restaurants down by the beach. There are pebbles on the beach, but a nice sandy bottom when you step out into the sea. A relaxed place!

13. Votsalakia Beach

Votsalaki Beach is located at Amoopi Bay and has a beautiful beach, where you can rent a sunbed if you wish. There are restaurants within walking distance of the beach, and also a charming little church, from where you have a beautiful view.

14. amoopi

Amoopi offers several beaches, in addition to Votsalakia Beach: Mega Amoopi Beach, Perammos Beach and Little Amoopi Beach. There is a sandy beach, sunbeds, crystal clear water and several restaurants.

More to see and do in Karpathos

The beaches of Karpathos are great, but there's more to discover on this Greek island. We can recommend visiting the mountain village of Menetes and the mountain village of Olymbos and to savour Greek food.
