Luxury seafood buffet at home - like in a restaurant

This weekend we enjoyed a really luxurious seafood buffet - like in a restaurant but at home. Well, we weren't at our house, but at Peter's brother's house on the island of Blidö in the Stockholm archipelago.

Last motorhome trip of the year - to family in the archipelago

The weekend trip to Peter's brother in the archipelago had to be the last motorhome trip of the year for us. Taking the motorhome with you when you go to a party is perfect. You have sleeping places with you, and you have easy access to your own stuff. When you are away for a whole weekend, as we were this time, it is extra flexible and practical.

Peter's brother Micke and his wife Nilla live in a marvellous house overlooking the water. Their daughter Dessi lives next door with her husband and two children.

For this weekend - when a luxurious seafood buffet was to be prepared - Peter's son Robin and his wife Alexandra also came, as well as a whole bunch of other relatives, in the form of cousins and others. In total, we were 14 people. We haven't immortalised the party itself, but we offer a bunch of photos of the table setting and the food!

Fixing a luxurious seafood buffet at home

Most of Peter's family love seafood, and for several years we ate the luxurious seafood buffet at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm every year. This almost became a bit of a tradition, but over time it became difficult to organise.

Apart from the fact that it costs a lot of money, there are also several people who have a long way to go, and who then need to arrange accommodation in Stockholm. Instead, Peter's brother Micke and his wife Nilla decided to organise a luxurious seafood buffet at home - but as if we were at a restaurant.

Setting the table for a luxury seafood buffet

The long table was beautifully set, with white tablecloths, white linen napkins and lots of crab and seafood decorations.

Crayfish were hung in the windows and on the ceiling. There were also red lamps on the ceiling and a long row of small crayfish and lobsters in different models on the table. Micke even had a soft crayfish that made a loud squeak when pressed - which he could use when he wanted to make a toast or ask some engaging quiz questions, for example.

Fresh seafood

What about the food? Lots of fresh seafood had been bought and was laid out on the table:

• Shrimps
• Norway lobster
• Crab
• Lobster
• Mussels cooked in white wine and cream
• oyster

Along with the goodies, there were homemade sauces in the form of mayonnaise, Rhode Island sauce, butler's sauce and vinaigrette. There was also lemon and tabasco.

Luxury fish and seafood appetisers

Micke's daughter Dessi is a great cook, and above all, she is good at creating small luxurious dishes that feel like they would fit in any exclusive restaurant.

Dessi had created two different small dishes with scallops. In one dish, the scallops were served with a smoked carrot mousse and in the other with variations on apple and funnel chanterelles.

Dessi had also prepared two varieties of salmon mousse, which were served neatly on small plastic spoons. One was served with rum and the other, flavoured with lingonberries, with mayonnaise.

We also made up a batch of Skagen scrambled eggs and a batch of crab cream, which were served on small slices of buttered bread or in casseroles.

We also mixed up a prawn cocktail with eggs and peas, which you could drizzle with Rhode Island sauce.

Accessories for a luxury seafood buffet

To accompany this sumptuous seafood buffet, a Västerbotten pie was served, decorated with crème fraiche and trout roe.

There were also delicious homemade parmesan crisps on the table.

Cheese and crackers

At the buffet, a luxurious table was set up with cheese and crackers. But it must be said, that the company could not eat much of this, because there was so much food on the buffet. But on the other hand, the cheeses went perfectly with prawn soup (like we did on the prawn shells) for lunch the next day.

A sumptuous table of desserts

Dessi is not only good at cooking sophisticated small dishes, but is also a master of sweet little desserts. In addition to being delicious, the desserts were also really beautiful. For example, there was a chocolate cake baked with sweet potatoes and decorated with raspberries.

There were also desserts in small glasses - one with chocolate mousse and another with lemon mousse and cake crumbs. There was also a decorative mousse served on a spoon and delicious little chocolate balls.

What a delicious and luxurious seafood buffet! It was with joint efforts, and with a great love for food, that the family and relatives organised this feast. And of course it was great fun to meet and socialise!
