At home in Stockholm

So we are home in the houseboat in Stockholm, after a period with a lot of travelling. In September we were on Karpathos in Greece and in October we had time for both Innsbruck and Georgia.

The trip to Georgia was marvellous, interesting and memorable, and we still have a lot to tell you about. So far, you can read about sulphur baths in Tbilisi, mountain area Kazbegi, the cave city Uplistsikhe and the health resort Bordzjomi. Now that we're home and have time to write, there will of course be more!

The motorhome for winter rest

Yesterday we put the motorhome to rest for the winter in an indoor garage. We usually use our motorhome for three seasons, and now it was time to park it for the winter.

As usual, we have to drive quite far as it is difficult to find garages at reasonable prices in the Stockholm area. We don't have any more cars (and it's only Peters who has a driving licence) so afterwards it was both bus and train from another county, to get back to the capital. We will see the FREEDOM motorhome again when spring comes!

Germany 1: Miltenberg has received the "European Destination of the Year 2024" award

At the "Elmia Husvagn Husbil 2024" fair, we awarded the prize for "Destination of the Year Europe 2024", which went to the fantastic city Miltenberg in Germany.

The award was presented on stage and we read a speech of thanks from the German Tourist Office. When we returned to Stockholm, we handed over the award (a glass statuette of a motorhome) to the tourist office, which forwarded it to the city. Now we have a picture of the Mayor of Miltenberg posing with the award. So much fun and so well deserved! Congratulations again to Miltenberg!

Germany 2: Event about Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

This week we have not only been to events about Taiwan, but also about the German Bundestag Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This federal state is located in the far north-east, with a coastline on the Baltic Sea and 2 000 lakes. It includes the island of Rügen, part of the island of Usedom and beautiful cities such as Schwerin, Rostock, Wismar, Stralsund and Greifswald.

We have travelled in this part of Germany ourselves, partly by motorhome and partly by catamaran (!), and we must say that the area offers many nice surprises. Among other things, the island is Usedom absolutely fantastic to visit!

The event highlighted, among others, the German artist Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), who was born in Greifswald and was one of the most famous landscape painters of the Romantic period. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the artist's birth, so it was fitting that the event was held at the National Museum, which is currently hosting an exhibition entitled 'Romanticism - A Way of Seeing' (26 September 2024 - 5 January 2025).

Best this week

The best thing this week is (actually!) being at home. We haven't got into the swing of things yet - we've been busy with events, meetings and errands - but maybe soon we can start to unwind a bit. Maybe we can even find time to watch a TV series? Wow, it's been a long time!

Your turn... what can you highlight as a positive from your week, big or small?

The week ahead

During the coming week we plan to hang out at home in Stockholm. We have some meetings and events planned - and we're going out to an island - but mostly we're going to be at home, working and getting our lives in order. Happy Friday!
