Another year of travelling is almost over. In 2024, we've done a lot of exciting travelling, both with and without a motorhome, both in Europe and in more exotic parts of the world. We summarise ...

Our journeys and motorhome trips in 2024 - at a glance
If we sum up the travel year 2024 for us, Peter and Helena at FREEDOMtravel, we have travelled a lot:
- Number of continents: 3 (Europe, Africa, Asia)
- Number of countries: 8 (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Finland, Uzbekistan, Greece, Austria, Georgia, Estonia)
- Number of new countries: 3 (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Georgia)
- Number of Swedish counties: 12 (Uppland, Gästrikland, Hälsingland, Dalarna, Södermanland, Östergötland, Småland, Halland, Västergötland, Bohuslän, Närke, Västmanland)
- Time spent travelling: 7 months
- Ways of travelling: Motorhome (3.5 months), flight/weekend trip (0.5 months) and adventure travel by air + car (3 months)
So, how do we travel so much? Well, running the digital travel magazine FREEDOMtravel is our job, so we work while we travel. The motorhome is a perfect office, and otherwise we work from airports, hotel rooms and all sorts of other places. Some trips are press trips, but far from all.
January: At home in Stockholm
We started this year at home in Stockholm. Now that we were home, we took the opportunity to go on an excursion that we had been thinking about for a long time: a metro journey to check out the art in the Stockholm metro. In fact, the metro in our capital is said to be the world's longest art exhibition - a full 110 kilometres long.
February: South Africa
In February, it was time for the big dream trip of the year: South Africa. We combined a visit to our South African friends Henri and Michelle with a road trip around much of the country, as well as visits to Cape Town and wedding in George, together with Peter's son Robin and his wife Alexandra. What a trip!
March: Zimbabwe
While we were "in the neighbourhood" (well), we decided to experience Victoria Falls, located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. We stayed in Zimbabwewhere, in addition to the amazing waterfall, we got to experience lots of wildlife around the accommodation. An experience of a lifetime indeed!
April: Turku and Uzbekistan
When we returned from Africa, there was a press trip to Finland, in the form of a weekend in Turku with spa, culture and good food. Then it was time for another exotic adventure: Uzbekistan! It was our second time in this exciting country, and this time it was a press trip with a dozen writers from all over the Nordic region. The historic city Bukhara became a new favourite place!
May: The Glass Kingdom in Småland
In May it was time for this year's premiere trip with the motorhome, and in collaboration with Glasriket we rolled to the beautiful Glasriket and Kosta in Småland. We have been here before and highlights of this trip were Moose safari in Glasriket Moose Park and Sauna raft at Ödevata Gårdshotell. Unforgettable!
June: Gästrikland and Hälsingland
During the summer, we decided to travel by motorhome in Sweden and chose areas where we had not travelled much before. We started with Gästrikland and Hälsingland. One of the greatest rewards was that visit Hälsingegårdarna. It wasn't easy, but we managed to see all seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
July: Dalarna
In July, we rolled on to Dalarna, where we drove Siljan Runt by motorhome. There is so much to see here in the form of Rättvik, Nusnäs, Orsa, Mora, Leksand and more. One of the highlights was that visit Muntes Hildasholm in Leksand!
August: Sweden trip with South African friends
In August, our South African friends, Henri and Michelle, came to visit Stockholm. We took them on a 2.5 week motorhome holiday in Sweden - Part 1: From Trosa to Kosta, Part 2: From Varberg to Hunnebostrand and Part 3: From Läckö Castle to the Sala silver mine. It was an experience for us to see Sweden "with foreign eyes". Here you can read our South African friends' thoughts on Sweden!
September: Elmia trade fair and Greece
In September, as usual, it was time for the popular fair Scandinavian Caravan Show in Jönköping. We were there and handed out awards to Destination of the Year 2024. Then we went to Greece, in co-operation with the Karpathos Tourist Office. We had a fantastic week on the glorious island of Karpathos and also took the opportunity to look around at Rhodes.
October: Innsbruck
In October we went on a press trip to Innsbruck in Austria - a stunning city with lifts to the peaks from the centre, fascinating historical sights and nice restaurants.
November: Georgia and Tallinn
In November we went on an exciting trip to Georgia, together with our friend Hélène, a journalist. We travelled around this beautiful and varied country by rental car. Some highlights: the mountain area Kazbegi, wine region Kakhetia and subtropical Batumi on the Black Sea. A little later in the same month, there was a nice trip to lovely Tallinn!
December: At home in Stockholm
The year ends as it began: at home in Stockholm. We are simply living houseboating, work and plan for upcoming trips.
Our journeys and campervan trips in 2024 - how it was
When we summarise the 2024 travel year, we have to say that it was fantastic. We can conclude that we had the chance to experience several exotic destinations, but also had time to see more of our own country.
Perhaps you also had an exciting or enjoyable trip in 2024 that you would like to tell us about?

Mr Nilsson's wife says:
Wow, what travelling you've done - it's good to have your own travel agency that you can work with anywhere in the world. Perfect, of course! But how could you miss Blekinge on your journey in the motorhome - this small but beautiful landscape with incredible archipelago. Yes, you missed a lot 😉

Helena says:
Yes, now we work both with the travel magazine (income from advertising, among other things) and the travel agency, and both things can be done no matter where we are! And yes, haha, how could we miss Blekinge? When we travelled south, it was with our South African friends (who came with us in our motorhome) and we had limited time at our disposal, so it became a round trip, and everything simply did not fit ... But we have looked around a bit in beautiful Blekinge before: https://www.freedomtravel.se/semester-i-blekinge/
