We had been looking forward to this trip for months - a romantic weekend in Gothenburg. Booking a good flight was easy with Bokadirekt. Soon we arrived at the elegant Hotel Draken Gothenburg, where we immediately felt welcome in the stylish lobby.

On our first evening, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Hotel Draken restaurant, where the chefs exceeded our high expectations. The following morning we started with a relaxing treatment at the Hotel Draken spa, before setting out to explore the city.

We explored Nordstan, visited Liseberg and enjoyed the spa at Hotell Draken. During our stay in Gothenburg, we realised that Gothenburg has at least as much to offer as Stockholm when it comes to good brunch. They even surpassed STHLM Brunch Club, which we still rank high in the Södermalm brunch category.

Facts about Hotel Draken

Opened in 2023, Clarion Hotell Draken is a hotel in central Gothenburg with 470 rooms spread over 34 floors. Each room has a private bathroom, free WiFi and flat-screen TV. In addition to the hotel rooms, the building contains several restaurants, conference rooms, a gym, a nightclub, a spa facility and a cinema.

Hotel Draken Restaurant, or Brasserie Draken, has established itself as a culinary destination in the city. Guests can enjoy modern interpretations of classic Swedish dishes. Enjoy the atmosphere, the company, the good food and not least the view of Gothenburg. Adjacent to the restaurant you will also find the Rooftop Bar. It is a bar that offers both drinks and entertainment.

Hotel Draken Spa, which is actually called Obie Spa, offers three hot springs, relaxation rooms and various different sauna experiences. They also offer treatments such as massages and facials.

Clarion Hotel is located just 1.7 kilometres from Gothenburg Central Station and 17 minutes from the bustling shopping of Nordstan. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of many other popular tourist destinations such as Liseberg and Universeum. The hotel's central location makes it an optimal choice for tourists looking to explore Gothenburg.

Travelling to the hotel: Good flights with Bokadirekt

As I said, we started our romantic trip to Hotel Draken Gothenburg with a good flight that we easily booked via Bokadirekt. The flight was comfortable and punctual, just as we had hoped. When we arrived at Landvetter airport, a taxi was waiting to take us to the hotel. The journey only took about twenty minutes. We've had good flights before, but this was probably the best one yet. Everything had gone as we planned or even smoother than we expected.

Check-in at Hotel Draken

When we arrived at the Draken Hotel, the reception staff gave us a professional and warm welcome. Check-in was smooth and efficient, but we lingered a bit to take in the elegant lobby. As guests of the Draken Hotel in Gothenburg, we were immediately impressed by the thoughtful details of the decor and the attentive service.

Day 1: City walk & Hotel Draken Spa

After a tasty breakfast, we started our first day of holiday with a city walk through Gothenburg. We started with a visit to the historic area of Gamlestaden Gothenburg, where we explored the charming streets and rich architecture. During the walk, we took the opportunity to shop for some supplies at Willys Gamlestaden, where we took advantage of Willys offers to buy picnic food.

After our picnic, we went to Universeum, where we marvelled at the exhibits and the impressive aquarium. We then ended the day with a relaxing visit to Hotel Draken spa. There we enjoyed both the pool area and a massage each. The day was a perfect combination of culture, nature and well-being that gave us exactly the romantic experience we had hoped for.

Day 2: Botanical Gardens, Liseberg & Hotel Draken Restaurant

Our second day of holiday started with an energising hotel breakfast. Then we set off on an adventure. Although we would have loved to visit the Uppsala Botanical Garden or the Lund Botanical Garden, we found ourselves at home in Gothenburg's own botanical garden with its impressive flora and peaceful atmosphere.

We spent the afternoon enjoying the thrills and spills at Liseberg. The new Oceana Liseberg attraction was the highlight of the day. After a few hours filled with rides, we returned to the hotel for a relaxing time at Hotel Draken spa.

We ended the evening with a memorable dinner in the elegant atmosphere of the hotel restaurant, Brasserie Draken. The well-composed dishes and attentive service made for a perfectly romantic end to our second day of holiday.

After a very exciting and lively day with many events, it was finally evening. There we had a nice time on the sofa, and could enjoy ourselves with pay and play casinos on our mobiles. Something my wife and I both have a great interest in. Then it was night-night, to get ready for the next eventful day.

Day 3: Nordstan & Systembolaget opening hours

We started the third day of our holiday with a quiet breakfast at Hotell Draken. Then we went to Nordstan, Gothenburg's main shopping destination. We explored the shops in the busy shopping centre all morning. After checking the opening hours of Systembolaget, we made a well-planned visit to acquire some selected drinks for tonight's dinner.

After lunch, we returned to Nordstan to complete our shopping and experience the lively atmosphere of the centre. It was fascinating to see how this commercial hub pulsated with activity and offered an impressive range of both local and international brands. The day was a perfect mix of shopping, urban experiences and relaxation.

Brunch Gothenburg & Travelling home: STHLM Brunch Club

On the last morning of our stay we wanted to enjoy a memorable brunch Gothenburg. We chose a local restaurant that exceeded our expectations. We even thought it was better than STHLM Brunch Club Karlavägen and Stockholm Brunch Club, which we have visited on previous occasions. After brunch, we returned to Hotel Draken to check out and prepare for our journey home.

We would have liked to end the trip with a brunch in Södermalm in Stockholm, but unfortunately there was not enough time this time. The check-out from the hotel was smooth and efficient. The staff helped us carry out our luggage and order a taxi to the airport. It was a worthy end to a memorable, romantic stay in Gothenburg.
