Day cruise to Åland with Finnlines

On Tuesday we were off on a wonderful day cruise to Åland with Finnlines. Their new stylish ship Finncanopus turned 1 year, and to celebrate this event, the shipping company invited a number of journalists, writers, influencers and other Finnlines friends to cruise over the day. Very nice!

Day cruise to Åland with Finnlines

When you take a day cruise to Åland with Finnlines, you start from Kapellskär at 10:30. At 15:00, when you arrive at Långnäs on Åland, you get off and change ferries. Then you cruise back, arriving in Kapellskär again at 18:30.

The route is served by Finncanopus (now 1 year old!) and Finnsirius (slightly older). Both ships are super nice, cosy modern and identical. We spoke to a member of staff who had recently moved from one ship to the other. He laughed that everything was identical - but that the same things were not in the same boxes ... a bit confusing!

We were shown around the cruise ship. We have travelled with both Finnsirius and Finncanopus before, so we know that they are super nice and well thought out. In addition to the design being fantastically nice - both modern and softly cosy - there are many smart solutions. For example, there is a 'petzone', where you can have your pets with you when you eat, and a nice dog walking area out on deck.

Brunch

Shortly after boarding we had brunch at Micke's Wine & Dine. Wow so good! The buffet was just the right size, where the focus is on quality rather than quantity. Among other things, we were served a wonderful Skagen scrambled eggs, tasty smoked cheese and a wonderfully fresh fruit smoothie. And then some good sweets of course ...

Brunch

You can also order main courses from a separate menu, and we each ordered a dish. Peter brought in the Eggs Norwegian, which is a variation of Egg Benedict, but with salmon instead of ham or bacon.

I (Helena) ordered a French toast instead, which was really tasty.

Spa on board Finnlines

After brunch it was time for the spa. We can tell you that there is a gym too, with a nice view of the sea, but we weren't in the mood for a workout ...

The spa, however, attracted us. The spa area at Finncanopus (and at Finnsirius for that matter) is very nice, with three indoor hot tubs, an outdoor hot tub, hanging wicker chairs where you can relax and several saunas. We had a really nice and relaxing time here!

Change of ferry in Åland

When you make a day cruise to Åland with Finnlines, you have to change ferries in Långnäs (Åland). The ferry continues to Naantali in Finland, so if you forget to get off, you simply end up there ...

The stop is really super short, and you don't have time for much more than a cup of coffee and a little view through the terminal's large glass window. We got a little extra luxurious reception from some representatives from Visit Åland who offered us small samples of classic Åland pancakes.

So, who were we? We were a pretty big group travelling together. Some we knew from before, and others were new acquaintances. You might recognise one or two of them from the photos. It's a mix of journalists, bloggers, Youtubers, Instagrammers and others...

Buffet dinner

When we were allowed to board again, it was on Finnsirius, that is, the other ship that operates the Kapellskär - Långnäs - Naantali route. It's a bit funny, because the ships are pretty much identical, so it feels like you're back on the same boat, even though you're not ...

Now it was time for food again, and this time we had the Archipelago Buffet. Very, very good! We especially liked the cold delicacies, with salmon, mussels, mushrooms, cheeses and a lot of other luxurious things.

There were of course several hot dishes too, including chicken with bacon and salmon in saffron sauce. None of us got to the hot stuff though, we ate too much of the cold stuff ...

A drink at the bar

After dinner, we continued to Barrel Bay, which is a big nice bar on board.

Here we got to try some different drinks, including non-alcoholic ones, which are becoming more and more in demand. We also each ordered a gin & tonic (with alcohol) and it was both extra good, and extra nice!

Sneak peek at the cabins

We were doing a day cruise, so we didn't have a cabin. However, we did go on a little tour, so we can show you some of the cabins. There are all sorts - from simple and budget-friendly to very luxurious, depending on your wallet and the occasion. Here we show you a family cabin, a comfort cabin and one of the most luxurious suites...
