What is Escape Room?

So, what exactly is an 'Escape Room'? This experience, which can also be called "escape game", can be described as a game in which a team of players discover clues, solve puzzles and perform tasks in one or more rooms to achieve a specific goal in a limited time.

A nice day with our friends

We had never tried the "Escape Room" experience before, but now it was time! Lumenia Escape Room, located in Vasastan, invited us to test their experience, and we brought our good friends Lennart and Beata.

We first met for a lunch in Sundbyberg. After two visits you can almost say that we have a new neighbourhood restaurant in the Indian restaurant Lagan. Apart from serving really good Indian food, a large strong costs 29 kroner (February 2025). It's hard to complain, right?

Escape Room in Stockholm - Lumenia

After lunch it was time to go to our planned Escape Room in Stockholm - Lumenia. We could have taken the metro from Sumpan but we took a Bolt, which was probably at least as affordable when we were four people. Lumenia is located at Karlbergsvägen 89 A, not far from St Eriksplan in Vasastan.

The door said "Knock three times, ring twice and then welcome in!". That set the tone for the magical atmosphere, and soon we found ourselves in an environment filled with magic and mysticism.

There are two adventures to choose from at Lumenia and we had chosen "The Secret of the Magic Wand Shop". We had to wait a little while, in a comfortable sofa group, and then we got information about, and some good advice for, the adventure that awaited ...

Lumenia Escape Room in Stockholm - let the game begin!

It was time! We were shown to the room where they play "The Secret of the Wand Shop" and on one wall we got to "meet" the wizard who told us about the well hidden golden wand. So this was what we had to find ... and activate!

For us, having never played a game like this before, it took some time to figure out how to think. There are lots of boxes and hiding places, and many of the boxes are sealed with padlocks, and to get in there you have to crack the code...

We quickly learnt that you have to work together. The best thing is to spread out a bit in the room, try different things, say everything you're thinking out loud... and solve the challenges together! Luckily, there's also a chain to pull if you need a clue - which happened to us several times - and with a few little hints and cleverly asked questions, you'll suddenly get somewhere. Great fun!

Please note that not is scary in any way, but the feeling is more like stepping into a magical storybook. However, it is clever and you have to concentrate and try to think outside the box to crack the codes.

Did we find the golden wand? Yes, we did in the end, although we had to stretch the deadline a bit... It was great fun and we are now all keen to challenge ourselves again - but in the form of the second room, "The Last Magic School".
