Things to do in Dalarna

Dalarna is located in north-western Svealand in central Sweden. It borders Värmland, Västmanland, Gästrikland, Hälsingland and Härjedalen, and is also home to Lake Siljan. This summer we spent almost two months here, and now we offer 90 tips on what to see and do in Dalarna.

1. stay at First camp in orsa

First Camp Orsa - Dalarna is scenically located on the shores of Lake Orsa. Here you will find a lovely long sandy beach, a pool area and adventure golf. During the summer, a wide range of activities are offered.

2. Walk on the long bridge in Rättvik

Stretching a full 628 metres, Långbryggan is an iconic landmark for Rättvik. It was built in 1895, both as a tourist attraction and a steamboat dock. Its impressive length is due to the ice age and the meteorite impact in Siljan, as the area is very shallow.

3. Stay at the cosy Tällberg campsite

In Tällberg you will find Tällbergs Camping, a simple but beautifully situated campsite on the shores of Lake Siljan, which offers a fantastic scenic environment. Tällberg is also a charming village with picturesque wooden houses, as well as eight hotels, restaurants and craft shops.

4. Take a trip to Sollerön

Sollerön is a beautiful island located in the northern part of Lake Siljan. Here you can go hiking, fishing or skiing during the winter. The island also offers Sollerö Camping and Sollerö Church, as well as ancient remains in the form of burial grounds from the Viking Age.

5. Experience the Skagenröra waffle at Café Buffils Anna in Siljansnäs

Right next to Naturum Dalarna in Siljansnäs is the charming café Buffils Anna. Here you can sit in the cosy garden and enjoy a coffee with a fantastic view of Lake Siljan. One of the most popular dishes here is the waffle with Skagenröra - a real taste experience!

6. Explore glorious Leksand

First of all, you can take a lovely walk through the centre of Leksand. One of the most beautiful places is at the quay towards Siljan, where you can admire the old, charming boats. The town also has several cosy cafés, such as Café Allé and Siljans konditori, where you can take a break and enjoy something delicious.

7. Admire the view at the Lugnet ski jump in Falun

Lugnet's ski jumps are easy to see from afar and make an impressive impression. Even if you're not interested in ski jumping, you can head up to the top of the mountain to enjoy the amazing views. In fact, it's possible to drive all the way up by car.

8. Visit the romantic Zorngården in Mora

To visit Zorngården, you must book a guided tour, which is highly recommended. Anders and Emma Zorn had it good and it is noticeable in the fantastic and unique house.

9. drive or cycle around Siljan

The Siljan round trip is a wonderful experience and there is plenty to see. Idyllic Dalarna is high on the list as a beautiful landscape in Sweden. Here we pass Rättvik, Nunäs, Orsa, Mora, Gesunda, Sollerön, Siljansnäs, Leksand and Tällberg.

10. Enjoy the Dala horses in Nusnäs

No less than two Dala horse manufacturers are located in Nusnäs, in the form of Nils Olsson Hemslöjd and Grannas A Olsson Hemslöjd. You can shop for Dala horses and Dala horse products, and also see how they are made.

11. Horse riding in Idre

When we visited Idre many years ago, we went horse riding. The ride took us through a fantastic green nature, where we were either surrounded by forest or had the vast landscape of the mountains around us.

12. Join a beaver safari in Lake Grövelsjön

In Grövelsjön there are plenty of beavers, and when we were here many years ago we went on a guided beaver safari. Unfortunately we didn't see any beavers, but we had a nice kayak trip and during a coffee break we also learnt a lot about the beavers and their life. Very interesting!

13. Shop for goodies at Leksand Bread

Leksand's crispbread has a large and well-stocked shop that is really worth a visit. Here you will not only find lots of crispbread, but also a wide range of souvenirs and other delicacies. In the so-called 'knäckerian' you can also enjoy a crispbread sandwich or a crispbread pizza.

14. Kayak or swim in Lake Runn

Runn is an incredibly beautiful lake, and a wonderful way to experience it is to paddle a canoe or kayak on the water. You can, for example, rent a SUP or kayak at Kayakomat at Uvbergsviken or at Torsångs Kajak & Äventyr.

15. Eat waffles at Korsnäsgården in Mora

Korsnäsgården, where waffles, ice cream and other goodies are served. Another option is to stop by Mora Kaffestuga, where they serve coffee and pastries from their own bakery.

16. Luxuriate with an ice cream from the ice cream parlour in Mora

If you like ice cream, you can make a stop at the Ice Cream Boat in Mora. You can sit on the boat or in the boat and it is bad weather, and they have a cosy garden in front of the boat. Here they serve really good RättviksGlass in a lovely environment.

17. Impressed by Falu Kristine church

Falu Kristine Church, located at Stora Torget in Falun, is one of Sweden's most impressive Renaissance works. The church was built between 1642 and 1655, and inside you can admire Baroque and Renaissance details in Carolinian blue and gold.

18. Shop for goodies at Skedvi Bread

At Skedvi bröd outside Borlänge you can buy the well-known crispbread, as well as other delicious delicacies such as meat, spices and marmalades. On certain days of the week, you can also watch the crispbread being baked in the traditional way in the authentic crispbread bakery.

19. Cruise in Siljan with M/S Gustaf Wasa

A boat trip on Siljan is a wonderful experience. We chose to go on a shrimp cruise with M/S Gustaf Wasa, which turned out to be really nice. The cruise, which took about three hours, went from Leksand to Rättvik and back. During the trip we enjoyed a shrimp feast with lots of shrimp, bread and cheese - both good and cosy!

20. Coffee at the Orsa coffee shop

In the heart of Orsa you'll find Orsa Kaffestuga, a charming patisserie with a 19th century atmosphere. With an inviting outdoor terrace, they offer a range of pastries, sandwiches and simple dishes such as salads.

21. Travel back in time at Leksand's homesteads

Right next to Leksand church is Leksand's homestead, Dalarna's oldest homestead. Here you can experience an open-air museum with several historic timber buildings that give an insight into the life of older times.

22. Check out crafts in Rättvik's handicraft centre

For those who appreciate crafts, there is much to discover in Rättvik. On the square stands a charming timber house that houses handicraft products from Rättviks Hemslöjd and the handicraft cooperative Handslaget. Here you can explore both traditional and modern crafts!

23. Enjoy the view at Vidablick outside Rättvik

Vidablick is an amazing place that really impresses! The road to Vidablick winds upwards, and at the top there is a 28 metre high viewing tower. The view of Lake Siljan is breathtaking, both from the tower and the ground. There's also a café, a craft shop, mini golf and more activities. Definitely worth a visit!

24. Learn history in Leksand's cultural centre

In the centre of Leksand is Leksand's cultural centre, which houses both a library and a museum. The museum has the world's third largest collection of valley paintings, a fascinating costume exhibition and various temporary exhibitions. The visit is completely free of charge - definitely worth a look!

25. Shop for flatbread at Rättviks tunnbrödsbageri

The bakery bakes flatbread and tuttul, soft flatbread sandwiches from the Siljan region, daily. The bakery also offers other locally produced delicacies such as cheese and drinks.

26. Feast on goodies in Orsa Saluhall

Right next to Orsa Kaffestuga is Orsa Saluhall, where you can discover a wide range of locally produced food, fresh meat and cheese over the counter. There are also crafts and souvenirs to explore.

27. Taste a rättsvik ice cream

A must in Rättvik is to enjoy an ice cream from Rättviks Glass. As big ice cream lovers, we took the opportunity to try Rättviksglassen several times during our stay around Siljan. It is really good and creamy! Our favourite flavour was egg liqueur.

28. Walk around the Östra Silvberg mine

The Östra Silvberg mine is one of Sweden's oldest mines, with a flourishing period as early as the 15th century when large quantities of silver were mined here. Today, you can visit the site and be mesmerised by the intense turquoise waters of the Storgruvan mine, where rocks and mountains are beautifully reflected.

Mora is known for several things, and one of them is the renowned Mora knives. In the centre of Mora you will find the Morakniv Concept Store, where you can explore a wide range of traditional and high-quality outdoor knives.

30. Step into the Falu mine - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Falun Mine is a historic copper mine that is part of Falun's Unesco World Heritage Site. Today, the mine is a very popular destination where you can join exciting guided tours underground. Above ground, there is a museum, historic buildings and authentic homes that show how the miners lived in the past.

31. Join Sweden's biggest Midsummer celebration in Leksand

Sammilsdal, also known as Gropen, in the centre of Leksand, hosts Sweden's largest Midsummer celebration every year, attracting around 30,000 visitors. The celebrations begin with the arrival of the fiddlers in church boats on the river. Then the impressive midsummer pole, which is 26 metres high and weighs 800 kilos, is erected. In addition, you can look forward to singing, dancing and traditional ringing. A truly magnificent experience!

32. Take a look at Rättvik's art gallery and culture centre

In the centre of Rättvik, on Storgatan by the river Enån, you will find Rättvik's cultural centre. Unfortunately it was closed during our visit, but it houses a library, an art gallery, a nature museum and a picture archive.

33. Sneaking into Orsa church

Orsa Church has its roots in the Middle Ages and is one of the few buildings that survived the great fire in Orsa in 1901. The church has parts dating back to the 13th century, and in the 14th century it gained its current width. During the 15th century it underwent further extensions. The interior of the church is adorned with beautiful Dalarna blue details that add a special charm.

34. Try summer tobogganing in Rättvik's slalom slope

During the winter you can go slalom in Rättvik Slalombacke, while the summer offers even more excitement with summer tobogganing. This is very popular with all ages!

35. Watch a hockey match in Tegera arena with Leksands IF

Another fun activity in Leksand is watching a match with Leksand IF at their home arena, Tegera Arena.

36. Walking tour of Falun World Heritage Site

Falun became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, and in addition to the Falun mine, the city's older neighbourhoods with wooden buildings are also included. If you wish, you can explore the neighbourhoods of Elsborg, Gamla Herrgården and Östanfors on your own, where the red houses, often painted with Falun red paint, give a unique feel. Here you can discover places like Ernst Rolfgården, Thunströms Köpmansgård and Vass Britas Gård. During the summer, city walks are also offered with different themes and focus areas.

37. See Rättvik church stables and church

Rättvik church, located on the banks of Lake Siljan, dates back to the 13th century. In December 1520, Gustav Vasa gathered the people on the church hill to get help to overthrow King Kristian. Later, when Gustav Vasa continued towards Mora, the Danish army was stopped, and to commemorate this, the Vasa Stone was erected on Kyrkudden. There are 87 church stables, the oldest of which dates from the 15th century.

38. Have winter fun at Romme Alpin

A place truly associated with Borlänge is Romme Alpin, located about ten kilometres outside the city. During the winter season, you can enjoy skiing on 34 slopes from two different peaks. The resort also offers a junior park, ski school, ski equipment hire and several restaurants for a complete skiing experience.

39. Take a trip to the Nyfiket café at Rättvik's old farm

At Rättviks Gammelgård you will find the charming Kafé Nyfiket, where you can enjoy lunch or coffee. The homestead also houses several beautiful old buildings, and when we were there, a theatre group was rehearsing for a production of Emil i Lönneberga.

40. How to get to Mora church

In the centre of Mora is Mora Church, the oldest parts of which date back to the 13th century. The church was given its current appearance in 1754, and the impressive spire, built in 1673, reaches a height of 74 metres.

41. Shop at Orsa fishing centre

Fishing is a popular activity in the area, which becomes clear when you visit Orsa Fiskecenter - a true paradise for fishing enthusiasts! Not only can you find a wide range of fishing equipment here, but you can also buy lures designed like Dala horses.

42. Delicious delicacies in the salmon shop in Leksand

If you are a fish lover, you should definitely visit Laxbutiken. Here the focus is on seafood, but they also offer other delicious delicacies. We took the opportunity to buy smoked pepper salmon, and it was really delicious!

43. Get educated at Dalarnas Museum in Falun

The Dalarna Museum, located in the centre of Falun, is definitely worth a visit. There are both permanent and temporary exhibitions, where you can see valley paintings and an impressive collection of Dalarna horses in different versions. Currently, and until August 2025, there is also a fantastic exhibition of art by Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn.

44. Ski or mountain bike in the tranquillity of Falun

In winter, skiing is a popular activity, while mountain biking is just as popular in summer. Right next to the ski jumps in Lugnet are several MTB trails, with names like "Gamla mormor" (a nickname for the Falu mine) and "Fet-Mats" (named after a miner who was found well preserved over 40 years after his death).

45. Shop for ceramics at Nittsjö keramik

Nittsjö Keramik outside Rättvik is a pottery with over 100 years of tradition and is thus one of Sweden's oldest craft companies. The shop is very popular and offers not only newly produced ceramics but also second-hand sales. We were really impressed by the fine ceramics!

46. Learn about nature at Naturum Dalarna

Naturum Dalarna, located on Björkberget in Siljansnäs, offers a fantastic view of Lake Siljan from its observation tower. It also has interesting and educational exhibitions where you can discover more about the wildlife and nature in the area. Another nature centre is located at Fulufjället.

47. Take a selfie at the Vasalo race in Mora

Mora is well known for the Vasaloppet, which had its first start in 1922 to commemorate the journey made by Gustav Vasa in 1520, when he fled the Danish soldiers. Today, the finish line is in the centre of Mora, where a sign commemorates this historic moment with the text: "In the footsteps of fathers for future victories".

48. Try Hästräka at Torsångs café in Borlänge

Torsångs Café, Dalarna's oldest café, is idyllically situated overlooking the Dalälven river. One of the café's specialities is the popular "hästräka" sandwich, which is topped with eggs, shrimp salad and locally produced horse sausage from the neighbouring village of Gustafs.

49. Enjoy a cosy night in Dalhalla

Dalhalla is a fantastic and unique arena located in an old limestone quarry, surrounded by forest outside Rättvik. This spectacular venue often hosts concerts, where both national and international artists perform. We had the pleasure of attending a concert and experiencing the musical "We Will Rock You", which was performed with songs from Queen.

50. Visit the Carl Larsson farm in Sundborn

The Carl Larsson farm in Sundborn was the home of the artist couple Carl and Karin Larsson, where they both lived and created. Today, the farm is a popular visitor destination and a well-preserved place, perfect for those who want to take part in the world of artists. A guided tour provides an interesting insight into their life and work.

Things to do in Dalarna

51. Finds in Hansjö country store in 1895

Just outside Orsa you will find Hansjö Lanthandel Anno 1895, a really cosy place! Here you can browse through both modern interior design items and old flea market finds. There is also a charming coffee shop and a unique "glass chapel".

52. Coffee at Café Slussvaktar'n in Falun

Café Slussvaktar'n is a cosy summer café by the water, perfect for a relaxing moment. Here you can enjoy adventure golf, live music, good food and of course a delicious ice cream in quantities.

53. skiing at Granberget ski centre

Just outside Leksand lies the Granberget ski centre. During the summer, the slopes are transformed into a green idyll covered in meadow flowers, while in winter it becomes a popular place for both downhill and cross-country skiing.

54. Be close to nature at the spring outside Rättvik

The fountain! In 1869, oil was drilled here, but a pressurised groundwater reservoir was discovered instead. The water gushed upwards, and the phenomenon has continued unabated ever since!

55. Explore the Clas Ohlson Museum in Insjön

Did you know that Clas Ohlson was founded in Insjön, Leksand, and that it all started as a bicycle workshop and mail order company in 1918? Insjön still has a large Clas Ohlson store, and here you can also visit a museum that tells the history of the company and a café.

56. Glampa at First Camp Moraparken

First Camp Moraparken has plenty of glamping tents and offers a wide range of activities, including adventure golf, bike hire, playgrounds and - during the summer - an activity programme with fitness, kids' club and entertainment.

57. Head out to the Dalskåp Museum outside Rättvik

If you want to learn more about Dalskåp, you can visit the Dalskåp Museum in Övre Gärdsjö. The museum, which is housed in the old dairy in Övre Gärdsjö, has guided tours during the high season. Photography is not allowed inside the museum.

58. Check out the Ostriches at Sahlins Ostrich

Sahlins Struts outside Borlänge is a destination with lots to discover. In the farm shop you can find ostrich fillet, ostrich soap and dusters made from ostrich feathers. There's also a restaurant, café, artisan ice cream and locally produced beer. You can feed the ostriches if you buy ostrich feed for them in the on-site shop.

59. Have fun at Leksand Summerland

Leksand Sommarland offers more than just camping. Here you'll find a large water park and a host of other activities such as high ropes courses, ziplines, carousels and trampolines. For the hungry, there are also several restaurants to choose from.

60. Get inspired at Fryksås fäbod

Fryksås Fäbod is located at an altitude of 503 metres above sea level and offers a fantastic view of the Siljan region. The area is very idyllic, with historic buildings dating back to the 16th century. There are hotels and cottages for overnight stays, as well as cafés, restaurants, hiking trails and ski tracks.

61. Be adventurous in Orsa Grönklitt

Orsa Grönklitt is a popular ski resort offering both alpine and cross-country skiing. For families, there are a variety of activities and adventures, such as snowmobile safaris and dog sledding. During the summer you can enjoy cycling, trail running and canoeing in the beautiful surroundings.

62. Hiking in nature around Mora

In and around Mora there are many beautiful hiking opportunities in nature. Here you can explore several nature reserves, such as Alderängarna, Lybergsgnupen, Salunäbb, Svinvallen and Söderberget. There are also various hiking trails to choose from, including the 90-kilometre Vasaloppsleden trail and the shorter Alderängsrundan trail, which is between 7 and 9 km long.

63. Take a boat trip with Slussbruden in Falun

The Slussbruden is a charming boat that runs tours on Lake Runn, departing near Café Slussvaktar'n. We've mostly heard about the popular shrimp and taco cruises, which last 3.5 hours, but shorter lunch tours are also available.

64. Impressed by the church bridge in Dala-Floda

Just south of Leksand is Dala-Floda, known for its impressive church bridge. At 158 metres long, it's Sweden's longest wooden suspension bridge for car traffic. Originally built in 1922, the bridge was destroyed in a fire in 1980, but was restored and reopened by the royal couple in 1983.

65. Let the kids run wild in the fairytale land of Santa Claus

Just outside Mora, deep in the woods, lies the fairytale land of Tomteland. Here you can explore magical places where fairies, elves, dragons and witches are said to live. As we didn't have any children with us, we chose not to go in, but we think this place would be a big hit for families with children and anyone with a young mind.

66. walk around Styggforsen lake

Styggforsen, located about 19 kilometres north of Rättvik, is a beautiful destination. Although the water was not flowing during our visit, the surroundings are still impressive and dramatic. A short and easily accessible loop around the falls provides a great opportunity to explore the area.

67. Check out Älvmötet south of Leksand

Just south of Leksand you'll find Älvmötet, also known as "Älvarnas förening". Here the Västerdalälven and Österdalälven rivers converge and then continue together as the Dalälven.

68. Discover the Great Divide north of Orsa

North of Orsa lies Storstupet, an impressive canyon that stretches along the course of the Ämån river. Once there, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the rushing water, and you can also spy the narrow railway bridge that the Inlandsbanan passes from time to time, 34 metres above the water. The bridge was built in 1902 and is a fine historical detail in the landscape.

69. View the ornäs cabin in Borlänge

Ornässtugan is a medieval mountain manor beautifully situated on a headland by Lake Runn. In addition to its fascinating architecture, the place is known for its dramatic history, where Gustav Vasa was forced to flee in haste with the help of the brave Barbro Stigsdotter. The museum was established in 1758 and the same exhibition is still on display today, making it the oldest preserved exhibition in the world. 

70. Sunbathing and swimming at the Falun lakeside

Just a few kilometres from the centre of Falun, on Lake Runn, you'll find Sjösidan Falun. Here you can swim or hire a canoe, SUP board or sauna raft. In the historic building Villa Herdin, buffet and other dishes are served during the summer. There is also a small campsite, where you can stay in a caravan or cabin.

71. Climb Mount Getsunda

Not far from Tomteland is Gesundaberget, which rises 514 metres above sea level (353 metres above Lake Siljan). The view from here is said to be stunning and expansive. Unfortunately, the ski centre at the foot of the mountain has closed after a bankruptcy, and the lift is currently idle. However, we saw that some people chose to hike up to the top.

72. Cycle Dalhallarundan in Rättvik

Dalhallarundan is a 26-kilometre cycle route that takes around 2-4 hours to complete. The starting point is at the Travel Centre, and along the way you will pass Dalhalla, Rättviks Gammelgård and Nittsjö Keramik.

73. Exercise along hiking trails around the Siljan region

For those who like to hike, there are several options to choose from. For example, you can take the Enåleden trail (4.5 kilometres), the beach walk between Vikarbyn and Rättvik (9 kilometres), or the longer Siljansleden trail, which stretches over 340 kilometres.

74. Eat ice cream at Gammelgården in Borlänge

Gammelgården in Borlänge is one of Sweden's largest homesteads and consists of 35 different buildings and thousands of artefacts. Activities such as Midsummer celebrations, a Christmas market, dance evenings, theatre, café and much more are organised here.

75. Take a photo of yourself in the event of a disaster

Helvetesfallet is another impressive canyon at Ämån, with steep rock walls reaching up to 30 metres. From the car park it's a walk of about 200 metres, but the path is steep and rocky in places. Here you are greeted by a roaring waterfall that is both powerful and beautiful, and a small suspension bridge stretches over the fall and provides an extra nice view.

76. How to get to Siljansfors Forest and Naval Museum

Siljansfors Forest and Logging Museum, located just southwest of Mora, is an open-air museum that provides an insight into the history of forestry, logging, sawing and ironworks. Here you can also explore forest trails and visit a café for a break.

77. Holiday at First Camp Lugnet in Falun

In Falun you can relax at First Camp Lugnet - Falun. If you want to get active, the Lugnet sports and leisure centre is right next door, where you can enjoy jogging and skiing trails, cycle paths, a sports hall and a swimming pool. We also saw many people mountain biking on the popular trails.

78. Travel along the beautiful tourist route

If you are not in a hurry and want to enjoy beautiful views, you can choose the Turistvägen instead of the E45 on your way to Mora. It goes at a higher altitude and offers several beautiful views of Siljan along the way. The beautiful road starts in Bergkarlås above Mora, goes past outside Orsa and ends outside Kallmora at Landsvägen.

79. Shop in Kupolen in Borlänge

One of the first things we did in Borlänge was to visit Kupolen for some shopping. The large shopping centre has lots of shops and restaurants, and we took the opportunity to find some new clothes.

80. Join us for hockey and winter sports in Mora

Mora is not only a popular summer resort, there is also plenty to do in winter. You can go cross-country skating on Saxviken, Siljan or Orsasjön. For cross-country skiing, there are good tracks at both Mora ski stadium and Venjan ski stadium. Another option is to head out on the Vasalopps trail. If you like slalom, there are slopes at Gopshusbacken. In addition, you can experience hockey at Mora IK's home arena, Smidjegrav Arena, where there are also times for public skating.

81. Play at the Aqua Nova water park in Borlänge

A favourite destination in Borlänge, especially for families with children, is the Aqua Nova water park. Located in Maserhallen, this family-friendly water park offers exciting activities such as slides, wild rapids, wave pool, whirlpool, climbing wall and an outdoor pool.

82. Camp at First Camp in Mellsta in Borlänge

First Camp Mellsta - Borlänge has a fantastic location on the Dalälven River, just a short distance from the centre of Borlänge. Take a dip in the river, go for a hike or play a round of mini golf.

83. Fascinated by Munthes Hildasholm in Leksand

Hildasholm in Leksand is a building that was once built by the doctor and writer Axel Munthe as a morning gift to his wife Hilda Pennington Mellor Munthe. Today, the house is a popular destination, where you can take part in guided tours, enjoy the beautiful garden, visit the café, take part in art exhibitions and participate in various events.

84. Stop by the Zorn Museum in Mora

At the Zorn Museum, you can explore the exhibitions on your own during the museum's opening hours. A selection of Zorn's paintings, sculptures and etchings are on display, as well as art from his own collection. Sälen is an extremely popular destination for anyone who loves skiing. Here you'll find the Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen and Hundfjället ski areas. 86. Stay unique at the Marcus Farm on the isthmus

Näsets Marcusgård is a cosy farm that you can find in Furudal, north of Rättvik. There are some really unique accommodation options here and you can, for example, spend the night in the design hut "Oddis Öga" or in the tree house "Supermåne".

87. Daring adventure mine Adveturemine outside Borlänge

Adventuremine is an "adventure mine" that we haven't yet had the opportunity to visit, but that we still want to highlight for its exciting activities. Here you can book various adventure experiences, such as a guided tour of the mine, a tour with an underground dinner, or why not try the "miner's wife sauna ritual"?

This is on our list of things to do in Dalarna that we haven't done yet. Paddle around small streams in Fulufjället National Park. In the national park you will also find the world's oldest tree "Old Tjikko" which is 9550 years old... What an adventure!

The Njupeskär waterfall, located in Fulufjället National Park outside Särna, is one of the highest in Sweden. This waterfall is 93 metres high and free falls 70 metres.

Do you know these facts about Dala horses? The Dala horse is a well-known symbol of Sweden, but do you know how they were originally created, why they were once considered "the devil's plaything" or where the world's largest Dala horse is?

  • Falukorven has its roots in the Falu mine, where ropes of twisted oxhide were used to hoist copper ore. The meat, which was a by-product of this process, was salted and smoked. In the 16th and 17th centuries, German workers at the mine taught Swedes how to make sausages from this meat.
  • Falujungfrun is a turned female figure that has been made in Dalarna since at least the 19th century, and may actually be even older. The figure became known throughout Sweden when Falu ättika started using a picture of the doll on its labels in 1945.
  • Falu rye groats is a crispbread brand from Wasabröd, originally produced by Falu spisbrödsfabrik. When Wasabröd bought the factory and moved production to Filipstad, they still kept the name Falu rågrut.
  • Falu vinegar was a brand name for vinegar originally produced by Perstorp AB. Since the 1910s, the vinegar was produced at the Falu copper mine, where sulphuric acid from the mine was included in the production.
  • Falu red colour originates from a by-product of the Falu copper mine, which was used as a red pigment. Today, the trademark Falu rödfärg can only be used for colours containing pigments from the Falu copper mine.
