Things to do in the Czech Republic - our top tips
We have travelled in Czech Republic many times, and we have often spent quite a long time in the country. Most of the times we have travelled around with our own motorhome. A few times we have also travelled down on press trips, in cooperation with the Czech Tourist Office. It soon feels like we've been to every corner of this country, and the fact is that we love travelling in the Czech Republic.
And why is that? Probably the best thing is the incredible nature, with its dramatic rock formations. We also love all the castles and palaces, the picturesque towns and the ease of travelling by camper van, and staying in campsites.
What's more, prices are fairly reasonable, especially outside the capital Prague, which is naturally a little more expensive than the rest of the country. Here are our top tips for things to see and do in the Czech Republic!

1. book a weekend in Prague
Perhaps the most popular thing to do in the Czech Republic is to visit the capital, Prague. This is a very beautiful and historically interesting city, where you can check out the Prague Castle and the Astronomical Clock, as well as lots of different and interesting museums.

2. Experience a Christmas market in the Czech Republic

3. Stroll around the Konopiště forest castle
There are a lot of castles in the Czech Republic, and one that we like a little extra much is the forest castle Konopiště, which feels a little secretive and magical where it is surrounded by green forests. This castle is located just over half an hour by car from Prague and you can also get a guided tour inside the castle.

Not far from Konopiště you will find the silver town of Kutna Hora - once famous for its silver mining industry - and the skeleton church of Sedlec. We have visited the Czech Republic and that included Prague and Theresienstadt. A country that has a lot to offer, we thought. Still a big contrast between Prague and the countryside.

Agree that there is a contrast between Prague and the countryside, also in terms of prices. Prague is a very popular and well-visited big city, which of course raises prices. The rest of the Czech Republic is still very affordable to travel around we must say!

We wonder how many years we have talked about taking the motorhome to the Czech Republic, but it has always been some other destination so just realise that we have visited Prague a few times, but that is probably the only one. Most of all, nature attracts in the northern parts and we got a little taste when we visited Bastei and the mountains around there, but it was during the pandemic years and not as easy and safe to continue from Germany. now that we become permanent residents in the motorhome, there should be time so we will see what fits into the travel plans this year...
09 February 2025 - 16:19
Helena says:
There are so many destinations to choose from all the time ... 😉 But Bastei is amazing, and that nature area continues into the Czech Republic, so you've had a little taste ... The nature in the Czech Republic is probably what impresses us the most!
