Uzbek event - an evening with Uzbekistan

This week we experienced an Uzbek event in Huddinge, Stockholm - an evening with Uzbekistan! This was a fantastic evening, with traditional dancing and Uzbek food, and we also got to do a presentation on stage!

Uzbek event

Uzbekistan established an embassy in Sweden a few years ago, and they are keen to promote their beautiful and exciting country to Swedish tourists. Now they decided to organise an Uzbek event in Stockholm. The embassy was there, of course, but also a large delegation from Uzbekistan - which would then continue to Denmark to participate in the Danish travel fair "Holidays for all”.

So who was at the event? We don't really know, but many other embassies were there, as well as Uzbeks in Sweden and other Swedish friends of Uzbekistan. We also invited a bunch of bloggers and journalists, including our guest writers.

Miss Lopez, one of our guest writers, and Helena, at the event.

Presentations

The programme started with a series of presentations. First, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Sweden, H.E. Mr Rakhmatulla Nurimbetov, opened the programme.

Mr Iomjon Madijov, Rector of the National University, then Mr Farkhod Fayzillaev, from the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, followed.

Who was it time for after that? Well, Peter and Helena from FREEDOMtravel! We had the opportunity to share our experiences of travelling in Uzbekistan. It was fantastic!

We feel honoured to have been given this opportunity, and it was also great to share our experiences! We are beloved travelling in Uzbekistan and we warmly encourage everyone to go there you can find our reports on Uzbekistan here!

Uzbek dance and music

After the presentations, it was time for music and dance performances. Fantastic! There is so much emotion in the music and it feels so real, we like that!

One of the performances was a kind of lullaby - slow and slightly evocative.

After that, things got much more lively! Strong colours, great rhythms and an intense feeling of joy.

Several in the audience got carried away and took possession of the floor. Even some of the seemingly stiff costumers jumped out of their chairs and danced. It was marvellous!

Uzbek food and culture

Throughout the event, Uzbek culture and crafts were on display (and for tasting), in the form of hats, silk scarves, ceramics and sweets.

We tasted some already when we arrived - buttery bread, pastries and nuts. So, oh so good! Later we were also invited to a full dinner, with the national dish plov, pies and a lot of other goodies - but then we were too hungry to take pictures. Read more about food in Uzbekistan here.
