Greetings from Cairo! We're currently in Egypt's bustling capital, and here's a postcard from us. We've had time to check out some of the major sights, and we've also got to know the city's lively atmosphere. Plus, we've been checking out different hotels - so we know which ones might be suitable for packages in our travel agency!

A quickly booked trip to Cairo
It was quite suddenly that we decided to to book a trip to Cairo. We will soon (on 29 March!) open the travel agency FREEDOM Xplore, and we will offer trips to Egypt and Cairo, with a focus on experiences.
Our partner from Your Brand Travel is very knowledgeable about Egypt. We have also done some travelling in the country ourselves, but we had never visited the capital. No sooner said than done, we each booked a flight, and prepared to meet some of our local partners, on the ground in Cairo.

Great climate in Egypt
The best thing about arriving in Egypt is the climate! It has been unusually warm for a while, for March, and in the afternoons the temperatures have been around 28 degrees. On the other hand, it's much cooler at night, and also a bit cooler in the mornings, so it won't be for warm. Simply marvellous!

Visit to six different hotels in Cairo
In addition to the hotel where we are staying - the Swiss Inn Pyramids Golf Resort - we have checked out five other hotels. We are here to put together good packages for our travel agency FREEDOM Xplore, which will open soon. To do that, we need to look at different options. Yes, our pace has been fast these days!

Cairo - a bustling metropolis
Cairo is a big city with around 20 million inhabitants, if you count the metropolitan area. In other words, there are a lot of people on the streets and a lot of cars on the roads. The sound of honking cars is mixed with the voices of vendors and the occasional call to prayer. Just as it should be in a big Arab city!

Although it is crowded and bustling, the central areas of Cairo feel very safe and secure. Many people hope to sell you their products by shouting and talking sweetly, but pickpockets are rare, not least because religion forbids such behaviour.

This is also the month of Ramadan, which means that people are fasting from sunrise to sunset. As a tourist, you can of course still eat and drink in the restaurants, but the holiday is still noticeable in many ways. Apart from the decorations everywhere, the afternoon traffic is perhaps even more hectic, as all the hungry, thirsty and smoke-hungry residents want to hurry home to iftar - the meal that breaks the fast.

Fantastic sights
Perhaps the best thing about Cairo is all the amazing sights, which we will of course tell you more about in the future. The pyramids are outstanding buildings, which have a lot to tell us about the civilised people who lived here several thousand years ago.

For our part, we have been fascinated almost more than anything else by the endless amount of writings, pictures, details and artefacts. All these small finds tell us about everything from rituals to everyday life. Fantastically exciting!

Best this week
Best this week? For us, it is of course without a doubt this exciting trip to Cairo! So, wow, we just say!
Now it's your turn... what has been the best part of your week?

The week ahead
Our trip to Cairo is not very long, so it will soon be time for us to head home to Sweden again. Of course, we still have a lot to tell you about, so you can expect several reports about Cairo in the future, mixed with other things. For our part, we are waiting to pick up the motorhome and eventually a little trip in Sweden ... Now we wish you a nice Friday and weekend!

Imagine that! I just thought it was warm and cosy in the sun in the garden yesterday. However, it was not 28°. Great that you are having such a good time! I can't wait for the exhibition about Egyptian mummies in Kalmar in a while, it will be as close as I get to the amazing pyramids and this lost civilisation. Ps: Love the photo of the garlic!

We will probably try to get an Egypt trip in the future, but right now we are fully focused on the motorhome. The best thing this week is that we picked up the Laikan from the winter storage and partly started spring fixing a little in it and partly started clearing / packing our belongings to be stored. In 4-5 weeks we will move out in Laikan and if we see what we have to do before then, the weeks will probably go super fast...

Beautiful, beautiful photos and I don't think I've ever seen so much garlic in one place before. Wow. The photo of the dogs is lovely. Looking forward to more from Cairo when you have time.

Great photos! I especially like the crowds in the city centre. That's what a market should look like with or without Ramadan. Then I learnt something new again, namely that you can't smoke during Ramadan either. So I understand that many are very annoyed when it should go home; -)
