Here is a list about travelling. "Longest, highest, biggest, best ..." is simply about the longest, highest, biggest and best things you experienced while travelling. Feel free to join in and make a list on your blog too - or answer the questions in a comment!
Table of contents
Longest, highest, biggest, best ...
We share our experiences of the longest, highest, biggest and best in travelling. It would be great if you would do the same! Use the headings and write your answers!
Longest ...
... the flight journey
The longest flight we have ever taken is probably the flight to and from New Zealand 2007. Wow, that was long - around 30-35 hours in total! On the way home, I remember that we were served breakfast several times (three?) because we kept changing planes and time zones, and because it was always morning...

... the train journey
Our longest train journey by far was Trans-Siberian railway (or Transmongolian, as our route was actually called) from Moscow to Beijing. The journey took about 7 days in travelling time, with various stops along the way. Among others, we visited Irkutsk in Siberia and Ulan Bataar in Mongolia.

... roadtrips
In 2015, we took a leave of absence from our respective jobs and travelled Around Europe, with the motorhome, for a whole year. We started the journey via the Atlantic coast of France and also visited Portugal, Spain, Italy, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Croatia. We have no idea how far we travelled, but the trip lasted 365 days!

... the walk
We have never done a really long walk - that is, no multi-day walk. We have done day walks many times, for example in Saxon Switzerland in Germany, on the border with the Czech Republic. Fantastic!

Highest ...
... mountain tops
What is the highest mountain peak we have been to? We think it is Kitzsteinhorn in Austria, at Zell am See, where we were at an altitude of 3 029 metres. A breathtaking and beautiful view we must say!

... the building
When we visited New Zealand in 2007, we had dinner one evening in the rotating restaurant of the Sky Tower in Auckland, and it is probably the tallest building we have visited. The total height of the tower is 328 metres, and the highest viewing platform is at 220 metres. I (Helena), who is afraid of heights was not so cocky in the scary lift ...

... the waterfall
We believe that Victoria Falls, located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, is the highest waterfall we have seen with our own eyes. It is 108 metres high and although it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it can be considered the largest, as it has the largest falling mass of water in the world. Mighty it is anyway!

Biggest ...
... the city
The largest city we visited is Beijing in China, home to over 22 million people. We visited this city after travelling there on the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow. An exciting visit!

... the event
Three times (2009, 2010 and 2011) we have been to the event Sensation White - a dance event with electronic music where everyone dresses in white. Usually all 45,000 tickets sold out in a flash. We had fun, especially at Sensation White in Oslo 2011!

... the vessel
The Freedom of the Seas, from Royal Caribbean, must be the largest ship we have travelled on. On board are lots of active activities - including a skating rink!

... the cave
One of the biggest attractions on Palawan Island in the Philippines is a underground river in Puerto Princesa. The river, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 8.2 kilometres long. This must be the largest cave we have visited!

Best
... the country
It is virtually impossible to answer the question of which is the "best" country, but we like France! This country offers beautiful, dramatic scenery, history, good food and a holiday feeling. What more could you ask for?

... measures
We're in danger of slipping back into France... we love everything from seafood to gratins and classic 3-course meals! If we had to name a favourite dish, it would probably be Moules Frites, the national dish of Belgium.

... the adventure
How can you choose between all the amazing adventures? It's not easy, but Cappadocia in Turkey was amazing! The landscape is magical, the rock formations are fabulous and the balloon ride... well, it must be experienced!

Longest, highest, biggest, best ... your turn!

Yossu says:
I am also afraid of heights. So I would have visited the Sky Tower on shaky legs. The worst thing for me is when I am high up and there is no wall or even a fence between me and the ground below, like when I stood on a cliff in Meteora in Greece. Great view but really scary.
"Best country" is undeniably difficult to answer. My spontaneous answer would be Chile or Argentina because those are the countries that have stuck in my heart the most. But you can also interpret the answer as the best country has a lot to offer and has something for everyone. No matter what you are looking for on your trip, I think a trip to France will be rewarding.

Helena says:
Well, if there are no fences ... huh! And yes, "best country" is very difficult to answer, agree! Chile and Argentina sound exciting! We have never been to that part of the world ...

I do not have much to say here. Anyway, the longest flight was to southern Brazil and the tallest building I have visited is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. As for high mountains, we have passed some high passes in the Alps but how high I do not remember.
Best country is so difficult but I found Egypt and Brazil interesting. As for cities, I like Rome a lot.
22 March 2025 - 9:21
Helena says:
Burj Khalifa is quite high from what I understand ...! Brazil sounds exciting! We also like Rome, a wonderful city!

Anyway, I've been hiking with my son, Things To Do Before You Die, a mile a day for a week on the coast, lovely, and a bit tough for a seventy year old, glad the son got time off from the family.

Helena says:
Wow, what a hike! Impressive!!!

The longest journey for me is when I went to South Africa as a seven-year-old with my family. My father was invited to preach at meetings and the whole family came along. It was really an experience.

Helena says:
Oh what an adventure for a seven year old! Understand that it was an experience!

My longest flights have been five hours at most, not my thing at all, three is more ultimate for us.
30 hours? Hujeda me. 😉
Have fun and enjoy your Saturday.

Oh so fun and interesting to read your answers Ditte! Fantastic to be at the Nobel party! My (Helena's) parents were there several times, but that's the closest I've come .... 😉 Understand that the years in China, including the opportunity to visit Tibet and more was a special experience, and certainly educational in many ways!

It would be a dream come true to go on a year-long road trip in Europe with the motorhome. We have travelled around France with it. However, it is not possible to be away from home for as long as a year when you have horses. But maybe someday it will be a long adventure with the motorhome. You never know :)
22 March 2025 - 14:02
Helena says:
I understand that it is difficult to be away for so long when you have horses! Glad you travelled in France with the motorhome!

The best thing about following your blog is that you can travel the world without moving a metre. You can enjoy wonderful pictures and read nice texts. I have been following you for years, but I must say that Cappadocia was the most interesting and most different destination I have seen on your site.
22 March 2025 - 17:55
Helena says:
Yes, Cappadocia is really special! Not like any other place we visited! 😉

What a nice list and there was a lot to think about:
LONGEST
THE FLIGHT: Must be when I flew to Ecuador, via Amsterdam. Stopover on Bonaire for refuelling, then we flew past Quito, down to Guayaquil for a stopover and then up to Quito again. It also took a little over 24 hours...
TRAVEL: I did this for a couple of days on the Reunification Express along the coast of Vietnam.
ROADTRIP: Sometimes you are surprised when it is 100 miles longer (about 66o) when we went to Norway's Finnmark, than when we went on a 6-week motorhome trip to southern Croatia.
THE HIKE: I (B-M) have hiked 10 days in the mountains with a tent along the King's Trail with some detours and then we did a week's hike from Santiago de Compostela and out to the Atlantic coast with 20-30 km / day. So nice as we had accommodation booked and our luggage was transported between these places.
HIGHEST:
MOUNTAINS: Probably over the Andes by local bus. Otherwise we are not mountaineers.
THE BUILDING: Until 2004, the Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur was the world's tallest building.
THE WATERFALL: The Victoria Falls and it was awesome.
LARGEST
Now it got tricky. We are not looking for either really big cities or events and definitely no big cruise ships. As far as caves go, the Postojna Caves might be the biggest...
BEST
COUNTRY: Hard to choose but Sweden is an incredibly beautiful country
THE FOOD: I can still long for some of the dishes we ate in Vietnam, especially in small, simple family-run restaurants.
ADVENTURE: Also difficult but we often talk about our two weeks in a small two-man tent in the middle of wild Botswana.

It's exciting to read your answers! It's a lot of flights, train journeys and road trips you made! We also like the food in Vietnam. And yes, I can really understand that the adventure in Botswana was an experience that you will not forget in the first place!!!

Best country to travel in, hold on tight, SWEDEN. So much to see everywhere: castles, natural environments, cities, islands, very different landscapes (compare Dalarna with Gotland, for example, you can't). The only downside is that it is EXPENSIVE. Then there is plenty to see wherever you turn in the world. I like Europe, I used to be attracted to the US but I'm glad I travelled there, now I don't want to support the madness. Dream trip right now: Paris with my little son who wants to see the Eiffel Tower. However, need to find some accommodation that won't ruin us.
