We have made an excursion to Malmö! A while ago, Peter declared that "don't book anything between 7-8 March - because then we'll do something special, just you and me". What, what? What did he have in mind?

A secret trip to Malmö
I booked 7-8 March in the calendar and for a relatively long time I was completely unaware of Peter's plans. But when it was getting closer, he realised that I found it hard not to know, so he told me ... he had bought tickets for a concert with Thåström at Malmö Arena!
Growing up, Thåström was my biggest idol, and we've been listening to him a lot lately - I love his voice and the way he performs music! We actually saw him live at Bråvalla Festival 2013but now we would have another chance. That's marvellous!
Thåström actually also plays in Stockholm, but the times did not suit us and therefore it became an excursion to Malmö. In addition to concert tickets, we had to book trains and hotels!

Walk through Malmö
Peter had booked a hotel that is super close to Malmö Arena. Convenient! It wasn't as close from the train station, but a walk in the sunshine is never wrong. We simply set off on a 6 kilometre walk through beautiful Malmö.

Among other things, we stumbled upon some of the delicious street art in Malmö which we spotted during a bike ride in 2022.

One night in a hotel
What hotel had Peter booked then? Well, we checked in at Quality Hotel View, which is right next to Malmö Arena. A really cool building by the way!

The room was excellent, fresh and with good beds and nice views.

Dinner
Where should we have dinner? We agreed not to eat too fancy, but looked among the various food court restaurants in the Emporia shopping complex. Very nice design on this building by the way!

We settled on an Italian place, where we each enjoyed a pizza and a good Italian beer.

Concert with Thåström at Malmö Arena
Then it was time! The concert was organised at Malmö Arena and lots of people queuing up, then pouring into the premises. It's clear that Thåström can still draw a big crowd.

We were sitting quite a distance from the stage, which made it difficult to get a real feel for what they did there on the stage really. The sound and light came through all the better. The show offered effective light shows and heavy rhythms, and above all - Thåström's strong and distinctive voice, which occasionally gets through marrow and bone.

The songs were from different albums, and perhaps you get the most feeling for songs that you have listened to a lot. For me it was maybe Things she does from the album Sin with the Empire and Nobody sings the blues like Jeffrey Lee Pierce from the album Skebokvarnsv. 209. The last song was perhaps the most famous: Everyone wants to go to heaven. To summarise: Thåström is still going strong!

A new day in Malmö
The next morning we woke up to the sun rising over the outskirts of Malmö. What a wonderful trip we had together, and it wasn't even over yet!

Quality Hotel View turned out to serve a really good breakfast. We enjoyed, among other things, their good bread and tasty liver pate. In addition, we took the opportunity to luxuriate with creamy vanilla yoghurt together with jam and granola.

Then it was time to go for a walk again, and we were lucky to enjoy the spring sunshine again. We did as many Malmö residents do and spent some time on a staircase in the sun by the water.

There was also a lunch and this we took at a Mexican restaurant called Los Arcos. It was not planned at all, but it was a restaurant that appeared when we were most hungry. It was good in any case!

So we held back the costs a bit
The costs easily go up when you do these kinds of excursions, but you can influence so that it does not go up too much. This is what we did:
- We chose the absolute cheapest train journeys available.
- We had a picnic on the train journey down - with salmon sandwiches, soup in a thermos and fruit.
- We walked all the way to and from the hotel, in both directions (about 1,5 h walk per time).
- We chose to have dinner and lunch in relatively simple places.

What a wonderful excursion it was, and a strong experience to see Thåström live again. Thank you Peter for taking the initiative for this surprise!
Do you like surprises? Do you like Thåström? Do you like Malmö?

What a lovely weekend you had in Malmö. Malmö is my old home town so it was familiar territory to say the least. I think it's a nice city but like many other major cities there are areas that are not so fun. However, there are many exciting and new areas. At Malmö Arena in particular, a whole new neighbourhood has emerged in a fairly short time and there is always something new being built. You were really lucky with the weather.

Truly a lovely weekend getaway! We really like what we have seen of Malmö. And yes, the area around Malmö arena feels both new and exciting!

Of course it's fun with travel surprises and your Malmo trip was a really good one, also with an incredible spring weather as a bonus. With us, it is probably me who has the role of travel booker so Lars has several times received shorter trips / experiences as a gift, which is appreciated but on the contrary it has been quite fragile, but you can't get everything ...

We were really lucky with the spring weather, and of course it affects in a positive direction! It is well different who is the driving force when it comes to travel bookings, but often it is the case that you contribute in different ways! 😉

What a nice surprise Peter organised for you. Malmö is not a city we walked around in, just along the harbour and over to Limhamn. Saw a programme with Gert Wingård, he has designed Emporia, which looks delicious. Super fun with surprises, I think, but with us it's probably mostly me, who organises such things.

The seafront towards Limhamn is nice! But there are many other nice parts too, we like Malmö! 🙂

It was great! And the weather was also on your side. Malmö Arena looks to have been sold out too. Such weekends are needed from time to time, then you feel that you are alive if you say so:-)

The weather was really on our side! And Malmö Arena was probably almost completely sold out! Also agree, you need some experiences that make you feel alive! 🙂

Such a nice surprise; do together and the train went too.
I realise that I should probably listen to Thåström.
A nice trip and the weather was good 👍

Great that you got to meet spring and the sun in Malmö. We took the plane to Malmö to go to a concert at Malmö live arena and Mike Oldfield .

Love surprises. We were in Malmö during the pandemic. That's when we went on roadtrips and saw Sweden. Also took a trip to Helsingborg and watched football during that stay.

How nice to have such a surprise. It really is! I haven't really listened to Thåström myself, but on my long list of favourite music is the Empire's interpretation of Märk hur vår skugga. Help, there you can talk about feeling. Malmö on a lovely spring day is wonderful in some parts of the city. Glad you had such a nice weekend!

What a lovely weekend, with wonderful weather.
Did you get a seat on the train home? or was it overcrowded?
The last time I was in Malmö, the train was overcrowded, so we barely got on, had to squeeze in.

What fun to get such a surprise! You (you) seem to have had a great time and it really "sounds" through the text that you appreciated it. Surprises are so fun, when someone does something special for you. Thinking about what you like, planning and organising. Very much appreciated.
